00:00 Within the space of one hour yesterday afternoon, three fires were blazing in Kings Park, two
00:07 in Bushland on the park's western side, a third near Zamier Cafe.
00:12 We believe those fires were deliberately ignited. It's hard for me to say whether there's one
00:18 or multiple people involved. I don't want to speculate on information that I can't confirm
00:23 at the moment, but that will form part of the investigation that we do.
00:27 The fires started next to walking tracks, and investigators believe the suspected fire
00:32 bug was probably on foot.
00:34 That's not to say though that the person could have been in a vehicle getting out of their
00:37 car and then walking up the relevant walking trails.
00:40 The three separate locations also making the fires difficult to fight.
00:44 It adds confusion I think. If we've got a point in one area, we can go to that area,
00:50 but we've had to split crews and look at different ignition points.
00:55 It took 40 crews about six hours to get the fires under control.
01:00 It's high profile, it's close to the city, it's near residential areas, it's near large
01:07 hospitals infrastructure as well, so we took it very seriously, resourced it accordingly.
01:14 Firefighters were still mopping up at Kings Park this afternoon when yet another fire
01:20 started outside the original fire grounds.
01:23 Kings Park has begun surveying the bush to find out if vulnerable plants have been lost.
01:29 Police are urging the public to contact authorities with any information about suspicious behaviour.
