00:00 A major Five Nights at Freddy's leak is going to change what you thought you knew about
00:04 the FNAF movie.
00:06 We just got a trillion new trailers for the FNAF movie.
00:09 The first screenings for the Five Nights movie have happened and the verdict is Josh Hutchinson's
00:14 first Five Nights interview has hit the internet.
00:17 The famous red eyes are gone and fans are not happy.
00:20 And the director of the movie is already talking about FNAF movie 2.
00:24 All of this and more on the internet's number one FNAF movie news show.
00:28 This is Slurps Behind the Scenes.
00:31 Hey Slurpheads, it's Connor here and I hope you're ready because we've got another massive
00:38 episode of Behind the Scenes.
00:40 In fact, it might be one of our biggest episodes we've ever had.
00:43 Now a quick heads up, we always like to give a light spoiler warning for this show and
00:47 this week we've got to particularly highlight that fact.
00:50 You still with me?
00:51 Good.
00:52 Let's jump into another electrifying episode of Behind the Scenes.
00:59 Okay ladies and gentlemen, just as I was about to start recording this week's episode of
01:04 Behind the Scenes, another breaking news story dropped.
01:07 I couldn't help but start with this story because honestly it's probably the biggest
01:10 information dump we've got about this movie so far.
01:13 So what's the deal?
01:14 Well, a production information document for Blumhouse's upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's
01:19 movie has been released by Universal.
01:21 I want to express again some caution.
01:24 While we don't get major spoilers in terms of twists and reveals, we do find out quite
01:29 a lot about the main cast of characters.
01:31 This document is absolutely massive so we've done our best to summarise this in a way that
01:35 highlights all the major new information that we haven't previously covered.
01:39 Okay so I want to get to the real meat and potatoes of this document and that's really
01:44 the section subtitled 'The Characters'.
01:47 Let's start with our leading lad, Josh Hutchinson.
01:49 Hutchinson plays Mike, a former security guard juggling the responsibility of being the guardian
01:55 to his younger sister Abby.
01:56 When he takes an overnight watchman job at the haunted Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, his
02:01 life takes a chilling turn.
02:03 So far so good right?
02:04 It seems like everything we've seen portrayed in the trailers.
02:07 But here's where it gets juicy.
02:09 When Mike was 12, his younger brother Garrett was taken by an unknown man from a park while
02:14 Mike and his parents were only yards away.
02:17 Mike has been haunted by the event and searching for his brother and his brother's kidnapper
02:21 ever since, even in his dreams.
02:24 Man oh man, this is great stuff.
02:26 It confirms a lot of the theories we had but it also sets up exactly how the story will
02:31 play out in this movie adaptation.
02:33 I mean the kidnapper is 100% William Afton right?
02:36 But then I still have questions.
02:38 Because what does Afton do with the kids?
02:40 How will it all link back to Freddy's and the Pizzeria?
02:43 So is there a chance that Mike's younger brother is still alive in some form, somewhere
02:48 in Freddy's?
02:49 Oh my god, so much to think about.
02:51 It's time to switch gears and look at Vanessa, who will be played by Elizabeth Lail.
02:55 She's a local police officer acquainted with the mysteries surrounding Freddy Fazbear's.
03:00 Hmm, very interesting.
03:02 Why do you know so much Vanessa?
03:04 Hmm.
03:05 Her initial scepticism towards Mike, the new hire with an unfortunate tendency to doze
03:09 off gradually transforms into empathy and alliance.
03:13 Vanessa emerges as a beacon of support for Mike as he delves deeper into the Pizzeria's
03:18 secrets.
03:19 I think most of us in the FNAF community think something sus is going on with Vanessa right?
03:24 So it's interesting to hear that this document seemingly portrays that she doesn't have
03:28 a ulterior motive.
03:30 I don't know, maybe they're just trying to hide her true intentions but it's definitely
03:34 something to think about.
03:35 Ok now let's look at Pipe Rubio.
03:38 Ten year old Abby, portrayed by the gifted Rubio stands central to Mike's life, not
03:42 just as his sister but as a ward under his shaky guardianship.
03:46 The film cleverly intertwines Abby's imaginative artwork with eerie occurrences at Freddy's,
03:52 leading the siblings on a journey to uncover the truth behind the animatronics.
03:57 Nothing particularly new here but I'm definitely interested to see Abby's art in the movie.
04:01 Now let's look at Jane and Maxine, played by Mary Stewart Masterson and Kat Connors
04:06 Derlin respectively.
04:07 Jane is the siblings overbearing aunt, frequently clashing with Mike over his guardianship of
04:13 Abby, hinting at hidden intentions.
04:16 What is this carrying up to?
04:18 Remember when we first heard about this character, it was through the reveal that her name was
04:22 Jane Afton.
04:24 This is a character we haven't seen anything from in the marketing materials so I'm super
04:28 interested to see more from her.
04:30 Of course we've got to end with none other than William Afton, ah I mean Steve Raglin,
04:35 played by the amazing Matthew Lillard.
04:38 Lillard's betrayal Steve, a career counsellor, introduced Mike to the daunting job at Freddy's.
04:44 The characters malevolent undertones make Steve's role pivotal, steering Mike into
04:49 the eerie pizzeria.
04:51 Obviously they're trying to keep some kind of secrecy around who and what Raglin really
04:55 is and I'm kinda here for it.
04:58 It'll be fun to see how the general public and non FNAF fans react to Afton's, ah Raglin's
05:03 true intentions.
05:04 Phew, I told you that was pretty dense.
05:06 I did my best to summarise the major plot takeaways but if you wanted to read this whole
05:10 thing in detail there's going to be a link for that down in the description.
05:14 We're going to circle back to this document later in the episode but before we do, why
05:18 don't we check out some more behind the scenes news.
05:23 Alright gather round ladies and gentlemen, we can't believe we're actually going to
05:27 say this but as of today, tickets for the Five Nights at Freddy's movie are now, unbelievably,
05:34 officially on sale.
05:35 The announcement came from Regal, the post said "Can you survive?
05:39 Get tickets to Five Nights at Freddy's on October 1st" which is the same tagline slapped
05:43 onto the poster.
05:44 I have to pinch myself making sure I'm not dreaming, in fact do me a favour, if you see
05:49 me in the streets, give me a pinch too.
05:51 It won't be the last time I say this in this behind the scenes episode but drumroll please,
05:56 I honestly can't believe this is happening.
05:59 So there you go slurp heads, tickets are now on sale.
06:01 We'll be sure to update you on how sales are going as we lead up to the release of
06:05 the movie but until then I gotta find out, are you planning to watch the movie in theatres
06:10 or curled up on your couch streaming it on Peacock?
06:13 Leave a comment below and let us know.
06:19 Buckle up because the floodgates have opened.
06:22 Remember when we touched on those three new TV spots in last weeks episode?
06:26 Well once that episode hit the airwaves Universal went all out, seriously.
06:31 Every time I refreshed Twitter, X, whatever, another TV spot had made its way onto the
06:37 internet.
06:38 There were literally new trailers popping out of Universal's wazoo.
06:42 If you're watching this BTS episode, you're likely a mega fan of FNAF, which means you've
06:46 probably caught some of these TV spots in the wild web.
06:50 I won't deep dive into each one, because if I did it'd probably be like a 60 minute
06:54 episode.
06:55 If you want to spend some time looking over the TV spots yourself, we're gonna link
06:59 them all in the description down below.
07:01 For the most part these TV spots tread familiar ground, echoing the story beats from the official
07:06 and teaser trailers.
07:07 They're playing it close to the chest with plot details, which is okay with me, it means
07:11 we get to unravel the mystery on the big screen.
07:14 So while the plot remains cloaked in shadows, we were treated to a smorgasbord of fresh
07:19 new shots and scenes.
07:21 And mad ol' mad, can we talk about Spring Bonnie.
07:24 The transition to the big screen, I mean it's just perfect.
07:28 And then I also have to highlight this shot, because honestly it's so f*cking goofy, and
07:33 I love it.
07:34 I feel this is destined to become FNAF meme gold.
07:37 With a countdown to the movie premiere in full swing, I bet my lucky socks we haven't
07:41 seen the last of the TV and web spots.
07:44 Stay tuned because when we hear more, you'll be the first to know.
07:52 Grab some popcorn because it's been a late minute plot twist.
07:55 Anyone who's been following the production of the Five Nights movie, or even if you've
07:59 browsed the comments of the first teaser trailer, you'd know that the reveal of the animatronics
08:03 having red eyes was pretty controversial.
08:07 After the storm of online backlash from the first two teasers, those glaring red eyes
08:11 were barely used in any of the marketing material since.
08:14 Most of the promos we saw after, think of a more muted yellowish glow.
08:19 So of course the rumour mill went into overdrive, suggesting that maybe the red eyes have got
08:24 the boot.
08:25 Kinda like Sonic's makeover after Fan Outcry.
08:27 Eye gate doesn't stop there though, because this week a new poster for the Five Nights
08:31 at Freddy's movie dropped.
08:33 First spotted on Rotten Tomatoes and Brace Yourself, the infamous red eyes have now been
08:38 replaced.
08:39 And you wanna know the ironic part of all of this?
08:41 A lot of fans were pissed about this change, arguing that the red eyes were actually the
08:46 better choice.
08:47 Oh the FNAF community are not real people I swear.
08:51 I don't know if I'm the only one, but I'm so over all of this eye discourse.
08:55 Could they impact the film?
08:57 Sure, if they're not done right, they could come off as silly and not scary.
09:01 But we're on the cusp of the movie's release, so I'm just gonna sit tight, reserve my
09:05 judgement and take it all in once the theatre lights dim.
09:11 I feel like it was just yesterday we kicked off this behind the scenes series, and now
09:16 after a rollercoaster 7 months, it's actually happened.
09:19 People, real, living, breathing people, have watched the Five Nights at Freddy's movie,
09:25 and I hate them.
09:26 "IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME GOD DAMMIT" is my jealousy showing.
09:29 You heard it right, critics had their golden ticket moment this week, tending the first
09:33 ever press screenings for FNAF.
09:35 Eager to know what they thought?
09:37 Well pump the brakes, because there's an embargo on reactions and reviews, but trust me, once
09:42 the embargo lifts, you'll be the first to hear their opinion.
09:46 Many in the FNAF community speculated that we might be looking at a Mario movie situation.
09:51 Lukewarm critic reviews, whereas fans and the general public singing the movie's praises.
09:56 But here's a twist, universal screening the movie for critics, with a whole month still
10:01 on the clock might be a beacon of hope.
10:03 I mean if you're confident about your product, why not show it off early right?
10:07 Alternatively again, if Universal decides to play it close to the vest and keep the
10:11 review embargo locked until the last few days before the release, well that might be a little
10:17 hint of their expectations.
10:19 Every day without a lifted embargo, that might mean the Rotten Tomatoes score could be taken
10:24 a hit.
10:25 This is certainly juicy, and we'll have to see which way it goes.
10:27 We'll be following this story and updating you as we get closer to the release of Five
10:32 Nights at Freddy's.
10:33 Let's finally circle back to that document as I said we would.
10:39 I couldn't help but include this as we finally got our first interview in sorts with the
10:44 main star of the movie, Josh Hutchinson.
10:46 I think some of us were concerned we wouldn't hear from Hutchinson given the fact that the
10:50 studios have continually refused to give actors and writers a fair deal, meaning the strikes
10:55 have been ongoing.
10:56 It looks like these strikers might finally be getting the win we've all wanted.
11:00 This document is careful to clarify that all actor and writer interviews were conducted
11:05 prior to the SAG and WGA labour strikes.
11:08 Ok enough build up, let's get into what Hutchinson had to say in this interview.
11:13 First up it's revealed that before joining the film Hutchinson wasn't familiar with
11:17 the game but he quickly delved into the universe.
11:20 He said "The game is very creepy, very intense.
11:23 And then I saw the fandom and the lore behind it and it's just out of this world."
11:27 You can say that again Josh.
11:29 I kinda like the idea of him sitting at home watching MatPat videos in preparation for
11:33 him joining the franchise.
11:35 Discussing the approach of the film Hutchinson emphasises the character driven narrative
11:39 amid the supernatural elements.
11:41 "Mike's a guy with the weight of the world on his shoulders.
11:44 He's acting as this father figure while at the same time dealing with his own deeply
11:48 personal trauma."
11:49 I feel that Hutchinson has got such a great grasp on the character, honestly I think he's
11:54 gonna be the perfect Mike.
11:55 Regarding the animatronics used in the movie, Hutchinson is full of admiration.
11:59 "Watching them come to life was incredible.
12:02 They have this texture and quality that only Henson can do.
12:05 As an actor you actually get something physical and real to interact with.
12:08 My character is supposed to be haunted by these things.
12:11 And now I have a creature in front of me that, in the right light, is terrifying."
12:15 Oh man I love this so much.
12:17 Just like we've been banging on about for weeks this movie is gonna benefit so much from
12:22 having practical animatronics.
12:23 It's really gonna elevate the movie in a way that full CGI renders wouldn't.
12:28 But as expressed from Hutchinson, this must have been such a great scenario for the actors
12:32 in the movie, likely helping that overall performance.
12:35 It's great to finally hear from our Mike.
12:37 If the studios finally decide to stop being massive tossers and agree to a fair deal that
12:42 the SAG members deserve, then maybe we'll hear more from Josh and the rest of the crew
12:46 before the movie's release later this month.
12:52 Floor pets, just when we thought Emma Tammy was done spilling the tea she's back at it
12:57 again.
12:58 If you missed our last episode of Behind the Scenes you may have missed our deep dive into
13:01 Tammy's tell all interview with Total Film Magazine.
13:04 Seriously, this had a lot of reveals, but don't swear, we've got a link to that episode
13:09 and the highlights down below.
13:11 But now Tammy's at it again, lighting the rumour fuse with a feature in October's issue
13:16 of Rumourg Magazine.
13:17 Apart from the tantalising tease of a FNAF movie too, the mag boasts a 9 years of Five
13:23 Nights retrospective and even a juicy piece centred around the buzzing Five Nights fandom.
13:29 For us BTS aficionados, there's a full blown segment on the FNAF movie.
13:34 For starters, the interview sets the scene for FNAF Movies, a quick origin story of the
13:39 Five Nights phenomenon and the movie's journey from concept to big screen.
13:44 Here's where it gets intriguing, Tabby known for her horror chops infuses the film with
13:48 her dark spin on FNAF's eerie charm.
13:51 But the article says don't expect a full blown horror fest.
13:54 The mag clarifies that Tammy's captured the game's playful yet creepy tone, ensuring the
13:59 film doesn't just drown in doom and gloom.
14:02 Elsewhere the article touches on the difficulties of keeping the giant 6 foot animatronic monsters
14:08 away from the prying eyes of fans and the press.
14:11 I almost feel like our behind the scenes series is somewhat under attack here.
14:14 Here is what Tammy had to say about it.
14:17 We really were hoping that these elements in the movie that we knew the fanbase would
14:21 be so excited about would remain a secret until the film came out or until we revealed
14:26 them in a preview.
14:28 They're huge.
14:29 It was challenging to keep everything under wraps.
14:32 Now the icing on the cake, sequel talks.
14:35 This is big, especially since the last hint of a movie sequel was when Matthew Lillard
14:40 hinted he signed on for a three picture deal.
14:42 Here's what Tammy had to say.
14:44 I should be so lucky to be able to be involved in any sequel film.
14:48 That would be incredible.
14:50 I love it.
14:51 Okay let's not get ahead of ourselves.
14:54 Blumhouse will likely want to see some dollar bills before greenlighting anything.
14:58 It all hinges on the box office numbers and those peacock viewing stats.
15:02 But yes it is heartwarming to see Tammy's passion for the project.
15:06 Even directors crave fresh new adventures after immersing in one project for so long.
15:11 So while Tammy's playing coy, one thing's clear.
15:14 She really loves the FNAF universe.
15:21 Alright slurp heads, it's time to wrap up another massive week on behind the scenes.
15:25 We finally heard from Josh Hutcherson, I got jealous about the first screenings and we
15:30 also found out a lot of new information about the plot.
15:33 You already know what comes next.
15:35 Are you all ready for our movie countdown?
15:37 Drum roll please.
15:47 Yes your eyes don't deceive you.
15:49 We are 25 days away from the horror event of the year.
15:54 In 25 days we're gonna find out if we are all truly ready for Freddy.
