Netherlands Bas de Leede on their excellent victory over Bangladesh at the ICC Cricket World Cup

00:00 What is your goal now?
00:15 Difficult to think about.
00:20 It depends how other teams do, how big our chances are for the semi-final.
00:26 For us the goal is to keep winning as many games as we can.
00:30 There are a couple of games where we haven't played to our best, but today we did.
00:36 If we can do that again for the next three games, who knows where we will finish.
00:41 Did you surprise the finalists?
00:46 Obviously always a surprise when you ball a team out for 140.
00:53 But I think on this pitch it was a tricky pitch, it wasn't easy to score runs.
01:00 Us having runs on the board, I think it was very clear what we needed to do.
01:04 With the paces being a little bit up and down, spin staying a bit low, I don't think it was
01:09 the easiest pitch to bet.
01:12 A little bit surprised, but it wasn't the easiest track to bet on.
01:22 Can you describe your middle order, what its strengths are and how did it do in this game?
01:31 I think we bet very deep, which is one of the qualities we have as a team.
01:36 Arjen Dutt coming in at number 10, who can still hit the ball miles.
01:42 So it's been one of the qualities of our middle order.
01:46 It's rotating strike against spin and they've helped us get out of some tricky situations
01:51 a lot.
01:54 But it's probably from a top order point of view disappointing that we haven't gotten
02:00 ourselves off to a good start yet again.
02:03 So that's something we're trying to fix.
02:05 But very proud of our middle order and the way we've played so far.
02:10 What really stood out for you in the Scott Edwards and Engelbrecht partnership?
02:16 Just the composure I guess, knowing that on a pitch like this we didn't need to score
02:22 350 or something like that.
02:27 The way they soaked up the pressure and then ran hard, tried to limit dots, put pressure
02:38 on Bangladesh by doing that was great to see.
02:42 Hi Bas, I'm Dheeman, I work for the Hindustan Times newspaper.
02:47 Congratulations on a good win.
02:49 Two questions really.
02:50 Yesterday Scott had made this point about performance being the most important criteria
02:55 for cricket to grow in Netherlands, a country that is known for excellence in a lot of sports.
03:01 So how important was this win to that end?
03:04 And did you think that the wicket was getting better to bowl on as the evening went on?
03:12 First question, yes I think obviously every win we get is going to be big for us and for
03:20 cricket in the Netherlands.
03:23 We want to inspire young kids to take up the game and we also want to try and get the ICC's
03:29 intention to start looking at us as a potentially bigger nation in the coming years.
03:37 So definitely every win helps.
03:42 I forgot your second question, sorry.
03:44 Did you think the wicket was getting better to bowl on as the evening went on?
03:49 I think it started to turn a lot more.
03:53 I think it was a tough wicket to bet on throughout the day.
03:57 You know 240 plays, 150, the score says it all.
04:04 But yeah I definitely think it started turning more and obviously we've got a couple of spin
04:08 options in our team so that was an advantage for us.
04:14 Bangladesh are known to be weak against short balls and you bowled quite a few short balls.
04:19 Was it an intentional plan against Bangladesh?
04:23 Yeah we look at it per player.
04:25 So we try and analyse the players and for example Shanto is great on the short ball
04:32 so we try and keep it away from him but to other players we try and use it and take wickets
04:37 with it.
04:45 How does the Netherlands celebrate after the win against a full member nation?
04:52 Nothing too crazy.
04:56 Some of us will ever be in the change room, we'll sing our team song and apparently there's
05:01 a rugby game on tonight so I think most of the guys will be watching that.
05:04 But yeah it's nothing too crazy, we try and get together as a group and sort of talk about
05:14 the game and then move on to the next game.
05:17 Tell us about the team song.
05:20 I think it comes from Australian football, it's to a tune of that and then they've changed
05:28 most of the lines.
05:30 But it's a great feeling singing that song and everyone really looks forward to that
05:34 all the time.
05:35 How is the experience playing in Eden Gardens?
05:44 How is the experience playing in Eden Gardens?
05:46 You're playing for the first time in Eden Gardens?
05:49 Eden Gardens, awesome.
05:52 I mean today obviously a lot of Bangladeshi fans which was cool to see but I can say it's
05:59 a lot more humid and warm than some of the places we've been now.
06:04 But it was fantastic, I mean obviously a ground that I've seen a lot of matches being played
06:10 at in the IPL, it was cool to play here myself now.
