00:52 With me, of course, is our resident strength
00:55 and conditioning coach, Coach Hammer Martin Antonio.
00:58 And we have to do this because for the first time on the show,
01:01 we will be welcoming and joined by our NCAA junior anchor,
01:06 former courtside reporter, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:09 from the sidelines now with us to analyze the games.
01:13 Let's welcome Bailey Saakot.
01:14 Thank you so much.
01:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:18 Happy Sunday, teach, and every one of you.
01:20 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:21 Beautiful introduction.
01:22 Coach Hammer, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:23 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:27 Especially, Bailey was with the badminton competition
01:30 for season 99.
01:32 So [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:33 By the way, guys, I have to commend you for working
01:36 together hand in hand.
01:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:39 Doing a good job, going around the country, different parts,
01:42 joining our NCAA players.
01:44 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:46 Yes, come in, Coach Hammer.
01:48 Talk about the experience, both of you working together.
01:51 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:52 I've been working with--
01:54 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:56 I've been under the dad of Bailey's coach, Bujing,
02:01 and I had fond memories playing for him
02:03 and being coached by him.
02:05 So Bailey's his kid brother.
02:08 Yes, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:10 It's been a wonderful experience, especially sharing
02:12 that message of basketball, sharing the message of the NCAA
02:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:20 And [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] help with the little knowledge
02:24 that we know and extending it to the players.
02:26 It's a priceless experience, Coach Hammer,
02:28 having to go through different parts of the country.
02:31 And at the same time, it's the first of its kind.
02:33 It's the GMA Masterclass Sports Series,
02:35 the very first of its kind.
02:37 And you're lucky enough to teach basketball to our kids,
02:42 non-varsity level, of course, to have them experience the NCAA
02:45 type of basketball here.
02:48 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:51 That really provided us with a backbone for the coaches
02:56 and for the NCAA family.
02:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:03 To make everything possible.
03:04 Yes, lastly, GMA Synergy, a collaborative team effort
03:08 with Philippine Youth Dreamers and also
03:10 GMA regional teams from everywhere--
03:12 Cebu, Bacolod, Batangas.
03:14 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:21 All right, so that's how we see and know
03:24 that GMA is going above and beyond,
03:26 not just covering the games, but also
03:28 giving back to the community.
03:30 Now, of course, since this is game on,
03:33 we do have to talk about what happened today,
03:35 since we are wrapping up and beginning a brand new week
03:38 of NCAA basketball.
03:40 Three very contrasting outcomes in today's games.
03:44 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] JRU winning against Arellano.
03:47 So JRU really trying to improve their position of making it
03:50 to the final for the second game.
03:52 A shocker.
03:53 San Beda losing back-to-back games against teams
03:56 that are in the bottom half of the team standings.
03:59 And in the last game, Penield flexing their muscles,
04:02 looking like the Penield team that we
04:04 described as title favorites.
04:06 Your thoughts, guys, on the three games today?
04:08 Well, everybody can beat anybody.
04:12 When you come in the NCAA, you have to be ready to play.
04:16 You have to get things in order.
04:18 And at the end of the day, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:24 Exactly.
04:24 And to add to what Coach Hammer said,
04:26 no one really wins in the first quarter,
04:28 much more in the first round.
04:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:32 And they have to be able to finish in the clutch.
04:35 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:37 Elimination round.
04:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:42 Bayleys, I got to ask you, you've
04:43 been watching the games from the sidelines, of course,
04:47 doing your features.
04:49 What has surprised you the most here in season 99?
04:53 For me, this season, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:55 level of intensity, the aggressiveness of players,
04:57 the level of competition.
04:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:01 Unpredictable [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:04 for this season.
05:04 It just makes everyone more excited for it.
05:07 It's really nice.
05:07 Any particular favorites with regards to the players?
05:11 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:15 You have more-- you can be more unbiased
05:19 as compared to me and Hammer.
05:20 All right.
05:21 So players.
05:21 Players.
05:22 Players.
05:22 Who has surprised you the most?
05:25 For me right now, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:27 Shocks, man.
05:28 Top of my head, I'd love to commend HM Miranda.
05:32 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:33 He's been really something else.
05:35 And he's been stepping up his game, not just scoring,
05:39 defending, but also in leadership.
05:40 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:41 How he's become a general.
05:43 Yeah, HM Miranda is definitely a bucket.
05:45 He has the record for most points in a single game
05:48 by any player, because this season, 99,
05:51 31 points by HM Miranda.
05:53 Of course, earlier today, Jun Roque had 27.
05:57 So he's third right now.
05:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
06:01 Again, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] tournament, second round.
06:05 This is just finishing its first week.
06:07 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
06:09 All right.
06:20 Because this is Game On, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
06:30 And one of the issues that has been talked about all
06:32 over social media was that doping accusation
06:36 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
06:37 And of course, the world number two,
06:39 Paul Valter, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
06:41 who is working hard representing our country,
06:45 bringing so much honor and glory to the Philippines.
06:47 He's working hard right now for the Paris Olympics next year.
06:51 I met EJ.
06:52 I hosted one of his press conferences a couple of weeks
06:55 back.
06:55 And he was telling me about how he
06:58 can eat chicken wings and chicken fingers
07:02 for only six days.
07:02 And after that, it's all out training
07:05 for the Paris Olympics.
07:06 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
07:08 Steroids or anything, this guy is clean.
07:12 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
07:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
07:19 Because when you're competing on an Olympic event,
07:22 especially--
07:23 Billy knows this because he was a track athlete
07:25 in the NCAA--
07:26 you go through a drug testing protocol.
07:28 You get tested before competition.
07:31 You get tested in competition and post-competition.
07:34 Randomized, yeah?
07:36 OK?
07:36 The World Anti-Doping Agency has a certain set
07:40 of ergogenic aids--
07:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
07:42 So to be called out by a person that you're doping--
07:51 and it's not proven under the WADA protocols--
07:55 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
07:57 Because we've seen EJ really put in the work.
08:00 And ergogenic aids are rampant.
08:02 It helps you recover.
08:04 It helps you perform better.
08:06 And of course, for production.
08:07 But [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
08:10 It's written on the WADA page.
08:12 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
08:13 It's on the WADA website and wada.org.
08:20 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
08:23 So if you want to have a background on that,
08:25 you could read on that.
08:26 But he's clean on all the drug tests.
08:28 So the apology was in order.
08:31 And that's that.
08:32 Now, eyes on the prize for the gold medal
08:34 on the Paris Olympics.
08:35 At the same time, Coach Hammer, I've
08:36 had the chance to also be teammates with EJ
08:38 during my time in college as a track and field athlete.
08:41 And one thing I can say for sure,
08:42 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
08:45 EJ, I would ask him one time--
08:46 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
08:47 Why are you doing this?
08:48 Or why are you working so hard?
08:50 This was back in college.
08:51 That's four or five years ago.
08:52 He had already won a lot of gold medals for our team.
08:55 And [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] I just want
08:57 to be the best in the world.
08:58 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
09:02 So [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] in my head, I'm like, wow,
09:05 this guy is something.
09:06 I'm like, what?
09:06 Why would he say that?
09:08 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
09:11 Best in the world.
09:12 So right now, he's number two in the world.
09:14 So not too shabby.
09:16 That's like being LeBron James behind Michael Jordan.
09:19 And that's me speaking as a Jordan fan.
09:22 I don't know about Bailey's here.
09:23 He's a younger generation.
09:25 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
09:28 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
09:31 But you know what?
09:32 I mean, I had a chance to also train EJ with the national
09:37 team.
09:37 And he's locked in.
09:39 He's locked in as much as Heidlin was locked in
09:42 before she got her gold medal.
09:43 EJ is out to prove something in the Paris Olympics.
09:46 And [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] support, not only prayers,
09:49 but in any support possible for not only him,
09:52 but all our athletes.
09:53 I just want to say this.
09:55 First time I heard this doping issue,
09:58 I just thought it was absolutely ridiculous and untrue.
10:03 It was a malicious accusation.
10:05 And we are behind EJ of Vienna all the way.
10:07 And we wish you all the best in your quest
10:10 to win a gold medal in the Paris Olympics next year in 2024.
10:15 Bailey's, you cover the badminton tournament
10:18 in the NCAA.
10:19 Before we show the feature, what can you
10:22 say about your experience?
10:23 Well, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] the venue was jam-packed.
10:28 All the other schools were there.
10:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] was the women's competition,
10:35 finals, the men's competition, and the juniors' boys.
10:39 So [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] can I share?
10:42 If you don't want to share, all right.
10:43 I have my notes here.
10:44 No?
10:45 We're going to talk about that.
10:46 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]

11:58 Of course, I feel very happy because this is the first trophy of our senior's division.
12:04 So for us, what happened this season is a history for us.
12:10 So I'm thankful for all the efforts of the players, coaches, and trainers,
12:15 especially in our school, San Sebastian College, Nicoletos.
12:18 How does it feel to be the first one to be selected?
12:21 It feels so good.
12:23 Even though I'm a freshman, I was able to receive my trophy.
12:28 It feels good.
12:30 How does it feel to have won the trophy and the MVP?
12:33 I'm so happy because this is my first and last season.
12:39 And we were able to win the championship.
12:41 And it's a blessing that I was able to win the MVP.
12:48 Golden Stags also won against Red Smashers in the Junior's category.
12:53 The doubles were won by Gif Linaban and Mark Anthony Bernal.
13:00 And for singles and MVP,
13:05 Zeth Kimbao.
13:07 I told you, this is the champion team.
13:11 Because every player here is unique and individual.

13:18 I give all the credit to their club coaches.
13:20 Always been proud of you guys.
13:22 I always believe in you guys.
13:24 During that five-day badminton tournament duration,
13:28 did you expect that you will win the trophy?
13:31 Yes, we expected it.
13:34 Why did you expect it?
13:37 Because we are the strongest team.
13:40 So I think we will win.
13:43 Did you expect to be the champion and you will be the MVP?
13:47 I expected to be the champion because I know and I'm confident in my teammates.
13:55 To all the supporters and viewers, thank you for all of you.
14:02 Thank you so much for all of you.
14:04 In the Men's category, the defending champions, San Beda Red Smashers, were once again crowned.
14:12 The doubles and MVP were won by RJ Phillip Lazaretto and Ramon Timothy Santos.
14:24 And for singles, Mel David Rivera was the winner.
14:30 Thank you so much to my players.
14:34 You deserve it.
14:36 All the sacrifices, all the hard work,
14:39 especially in our training schedules.
14:41 And thank you so much to the San Beda community.

15:14 We just wanted to be the champion.
15:16 This MVP is just a bonus.
15:18 But we're so happy that we won this.
15:21 Because from the very first start, we built our partnership with MottMott.
15:26 From the start of the year, I said goodbye to my coach.

16:41 we want to elevate all the sports, especially as we head into Season 100.
