00:00 Hi, I'm Lo Bosworth, the founder and CEO of Love Wellness,
00:04 and I am about to give Marie Claire
00:07 a sneak peek into my library.
00:09 Welcome to Shelf Portrait.
00:11 (upbeat music)
00:13 So here we are in the little corner of my room,
00:20 and I have maybe 40 books.
00:25 I think there's a couple more
00:26 in a different part of the house.
00:27 My library, I mean, does anybody really have a library?
00:30 We have a bookshelf, right?
00:32 But I have a lot of different types of books.
00:36 I love fiction, nonfiction, all over the place.
00:38 I'm a big reader, and especially lately,
00:41 I've been trying to read at least two books a month,
00:44 get off my phone, get off TikTok.
00:46 One of my first favorites is this one.
00:50 "My Year of Rest and Relaxation" is a very interesting book.
00:54 It basically is the story of a woman
00:57 who sort of sleeps for an entire year or more
01:00 in her New York City apartment
01:02 and has a friend come by and give her sustenance.
01:04 But for anybody who has ever been depressed,
01:08 has anxiety, anything like that,
01:11 this is a really interesting read.
01:13 I feel like it really helps you get outside of yourself.
01:15 It certainly has helped me.
01:17 So this is one of my top five books for sure.
01:19 This is less of a read and more of a guide,
01:22 but this is "Marie Kondo,
01:25 The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying."
01:28 And this book, I think I bought this copy
01:32 actually in Thailand at the airport.
01:35 I was on a vacation a couple of years ago
01:38 and I was going through, or about to go through,
01:41 a really bad breakup,
01:43 and "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying"
01:46 actually saved me, truly.
01:49 "Clean house equals a clean mind."
01:53 And I have been subscribing to this method of tidying up.
01:57 Not exactly, but I would say 70%.
02:00 I'm not very good at folding
02:01 in the way that Marie Kondo suggests,
02:03 but I have really become a minimalist because of this book.
02:08 And I absolutely love it and recommend it.
02:12 It's an oldie, but a goodie.
02:13 All right, next, Robert Greene.
02:14 He's one of my favorite authors.
02:16 And this is "The 33 Strategies of War."
02:19 You might think I'm crazy for suggesting
02:22 that you read this book,
02:24 but if you wanna learn how to negotiate,
02:27 how to hold your own,
02:29 and how to interpret other people's behavior,
02:32 whether it's in business, dating, friendship,
02:34 like truly anything, this is the book for you.
02:39 I absolutely love it.
02:40 And any budding entrepreneurs out there
02:43 should definitely give this a read.
02:44 This is a book that I'm reading right now,
02:46 but I'm almost done.
02:47 And so I'm gonna give it a shout out.
02:49 This is "The Idiot," and it is a really fun,
02:54 funny sort of coming of age story of a student at Harvard
02:59 and sort of the mistress she gets into. (laughs)
03:03 So I love it.
03:04 It's a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
03:07 It's definitely worth a read.
03:08 For anyone into health and wellness, it's my own book.
03:12 This is "Love Yourself Well."
03:14 It is available right now.
03:17 I wrote this book to really tell my own health story
03:20 about how I was dealing with vitamin deficiencies,
03:23 gut health issues, vaginal health problems,
03:25 and how I was able to get better.
03:28 All three organs are connected.
03:30 And if you take care of your gut,
03:32 that means that your brain and vagina
03:33 is gonna be happy too.
03:34 And this book also includes an incredible five-week plan
03:38 to bring your body back to homeostasis.
03:40 If you've been dealing with anything like gut health issues,
03:43 mental health issues, vaginal health issues,
03:45 this is the book for you.
03:46 And it took almost two years to bring this book to life.
03:49 I worked with medical professionals at Love Wellness,
03:53 spoke to a lot of doctors, worked with Janine Higbee,
03:56 who's a certified nutritionist,
03:57 to come up with our five-week plan.
03:59 The book has a ton of evidence-based research in it also,
04:03 so it required a lot of reading
04:05 before putting all the thoughts together on paper.
04:08 So what is my favorite genre?
04:12 I think it has to be nonfiction,
04:15 anything that is science-related,
04:18 which is probably why I love running my company
04:23 and why I wrote a book that was very similar in that genre.
04:28 I love David Sedaris.
04:29 His short stories are so incredible.
04:33 And we used to do a lot of books on tape growing up
04:36 on long car trips with my family,
04:38 and David Sedaris, we would always give him a listen.
04:40 Favorite childhood book?
04:42 For me, it was more of a series.
04:44 I loved anything that was Ramona Quimby.
04:48 Remember Ramona and her sister Beatrice?
04:50 And I think it's because I have a sister
04:52 and we had a funny relationship like them.
04:54 My favorite place to read?
04:56 It's gotta be the bath.
04:58 I take a tub every day, and yeah,
05:02 the bath is a great place to read.
05:03 In New York City, there's a great bookstore
05:05 called McNally Jackson in Soho,
05:08 and that is where I go to get most of my books.
05:11 It's an incredible bookstore.
05:12 If you ever come to New York,
05:13 definitely visit McNally Jackson or The Strand.
05:16 Thank you so much to Marie Claire's Shelf Portrait.
05:21 Thanks for hanging out with me
05:21 in my tiny little nook of a library.
05:24 And don't forget to check out Love Yourself Well.
05:28 It is available wherever books are sold.
05:30 If you want the gut brain vaginal bliss, you deserve.
05:34 See ya.
