00:11 Priyanka Chopra, the night brought about celebrities such as Diane Kruger, Adrienne Brody, Real
00:16 Housewives star Jussel Tank, and others who showed out at the Pierre Hotel to celebrate
00:21 the Festival of Lights.
00:22 The event was also co-hosted by many other notable Hollywood names such as Mindy Kaling,
00:27 Malala Yousafzai, Prabhulkaram, and just like that Sarita Chowdhury and Netflix's Bela
00:32 Bajaria just to name a few.
00:34 Acharya spoke to THR noting that the night could not be possible without industry leaders
00:38 such as Ann Mukherjee, CEO of Pernod Ricard, and others in the community that are not afraid
00:43 to show and share their culture.
00:46 And also shared with guests the importance of this celebration noting that coming together
00:50 is important now more than ever.
00:52 "I'm so so happy to be here even under such sad circumstances in the world but I want
00:59 each and every one of you to let the light in tonight and have the best time ever."
01:03 Author Rupi Kaur whose debut collection of poetry Milk and Honey became a No. 1 New York
01:08 Times bestselling novel shared, "There are so many South Asians taking up space within
01:12 entertainment right now and I really think that's what's made a difference in giving
01:15 us the spotlight."
01:16 A-Game PR founder Anitha Chatterjee, another host for the evening shared how this year's
01:21 celebrations was produced on an even greater scale crediting the inaugural Diwali ball
01:26 as well as last year's White House celebration.
01:28 "We're not just here for a party, but Diwali is about light over darkness and we're coming
01:32 together to congregate to celebrate diversity and inclusivity of South Asians in the United
01:37 States."
01:38 Designers Felghuni and Shane Peacock, who dressed many of the attendees for the night,
01:42 also discussed the rise of South Asian culture in the U.S., particularly with fashion.
01:46 "It's about time. The U.S. culture has started accepting what we are doing with style and
01:51 I think they need a little more color in their life. The duo has already dressed big A-list
01:56 talent. We dressed Sarah Jessica Parker in And Just Like That. The stylist showed her
02:00 our dress and she was like, 'I have to wear this.' And that's when we realized if Sarah
02:03 Jessica Parker can wear a lehenga, then everyone can."
02:06 Speaking of And Just Like That, star Sarita Chaudhry, who plays Seema in the HBO Sex and
02:11 the City sequel series, was also in attendance and spoke to THR about the theme of the evening,
02:16 The American Dream.
02:17 "Diwali is one of the holidays that's celebrated by many different faiths. It's kind of magical.
02:22 Right now it feels like everyone is shining like the lights of Diwali. And South Asians
02:25 are such hard workers. So anyone that made it here to America and worked their asses
02:29 off, I never wondered if we were going to get here. I just knew."
02:33 Elsewhere the night also featured a special performance by the Atma Performing Arts by
02:37 creative director Amit Shah, as well as a performance from singer Jai Shahn.
