00:03 For me, rivalry really is a personal journey.
00:10 When you look at rivalry on a very individual and introspective way,
00:15 I feel like it makes way more sense trying to be better
00:19 than you were the day before.
00:21 My name is Tony Oxivore.
00:23 I'm 27 years old.
00:24 Born and raised in France, and I arrived here in Sydney about five years ago.
00:29 Dance is pretty much everything I do, no matter what the nature of the job is.
00:34 I guess it's quite a defining part of my identity.
00:37 It's my identity.
00:39 My identity.
00:40 My identity.

00:44 A barfroom is one of the three performance categories
00:53 that you have in ballroom.
00:54 It's a space to kind of be able to live this illusion of being fab
01:00 and being everything you want to be, being an apologetic in society that's
01:04 kind of pressuring you to fit into norms that you don't feel like fitting to.
01:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:11 I'm not sure if there's a why.
01:13 I think just as things are in nature, I think
01:17 human beings are supposed to have some type of movement initiated
01:20 in their body as well.
01:22 And when you put cultural context, socioeconomical context,
01:26 political context, for me, I guess it created a story and reasons
01:30 why I had to start dancing.
01:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:35 Rivalry is more with yourselves because you face your fears,
01:41 your insecurity.
01:42 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:49 My name is Magdalena.
01:51 I'm a breakdancer originally from Chile.
01:54 Now I'm based in the Gulf of Mexico.
01:59 As a vigor, you have a lot of support.
02:01 But I want to be supported because I'm a real good vigor.
02:05 I don't want to because I'm a woman.
02:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:13 I was the only girl for many years back in Chile.
02:17 I questioned myself, is this wrong?
02:19 Is this for girls?
02:20 But I just love it.
02:22 And I kept going.
02:23 But now I'm happy for our vigor scene
02:27 and the new generations of girls because there
02:30 are more opportunities.
