00:00 From certain characters needing to be dispatched in order to set up the flicks we know and
00:04 love later down the road, to eerie callbacks subtly suggesting that a much-adored personality's
00:09 time is up, these Star Wars faces were all clearly done for from these precise moments
00:14 on.
00:15 Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars and here are 10 exact moments we knew these Star
00:19 Wars characters were doomed.
00:21 10.
00:22 Luke catches up with an old friend called Biggs.
00:24 A new hope War is a cruel and merciless mistress, and
00:28 make no mistake about it.
00:29 From the second we stumble upon the Rebel Alliance and their conflict with the Big Bad
00:33 Empire, our heroes find themselves thrown right into the thick of this frequently harsh
00:37 reality.
00:38 And in order to get over just how high the stakes are in this galaxy-altering battle
00:42 for the future of their universe, Lucas and the gang opted to add a rather genius but
00:46 eventually devastating callback to simpler times.
00:49 When Luke Skywalker bumps into his old pal Biggs Darklighter as the pair both prepare
00:53 to take on Darth Vader and his Stormtrooper cronies on the Death Star.
00:57 As the pair reminisce and Biggs bigs up the future Jedi's supreme pilot skills, Darklighter's
01:02 comments on wanting to hear about all of Luke's stories when he gets back pretty much acts
01:06 as the verbal nail in his own coffin.
01:09 Sure enough, in the heat of battle, Biggs is blasted to smithereens by none other than
01:13 Luke's own papi, acting as yet another significant blow to the young farm boy.
01:17 Breaks your damn heart.
01:19 9.
01:20 Almost everyone who didn't turn up in the OG trilogy after Order 66 happens.
01:25 Revenge of the Sith
01:27 While it was undoubtedly awesome to finally see a world simply overflowing with the galaxy's
01:31 protectors over the course of George Lucas' prequel trilogy, the daunting realisation
01:35 that an unquestionably depressing purge would be on its way always acted as a subtle shadow
01:40 in an otherwise vibrant Jedi landscape.
01:43 Simply put, if the Jedi Order wasn't all but extinct, as Ben Kenobi put it in A New
01:47 Hope, by the time of the original trilogy, then some rather substantial plot holes would
01:52 have likely made their presence known before long.
01:54 So were the fans liked it or not?
01:56 A whole host of Jedi faces we'd come to appreciate and admire over those first two
02:00 prequel features were doomed to bite the dust from the second Anakin Skywalker helped Palpatine
02:05 overcome Mace Windu.
02:07 But more on that later.
02:09 And set the stage for Order 66 to become an excruciating reality.
02:13 Just like that, the likes of Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon and Aayla Secura, and many, many
02:18 more were all wiped out by clones.
02:20 We knew it all had to end at some point, but that still didn't make it any easier to
02:24 swallow this devastating pill.
02:26 8.
02:27 Mee Skywalker Gets Abducted - Attack of the Clones
02:31 Keeping with the fallen Jedi who helped kickstart a seismic shift in both the galaxy and the
02:35 balance of the Force, the moment that pretty much ignited Anakin Skywalker's steady fall
02:40 into darkness in the first place could be spotted coming a mile away from the second
02:45 this defiant Jedi padawan opted to go looking for his mama on Tatooine.
02:49 Clearly still possessing a strong bond with his single parent, even experiencing dreams
02:53 of her suffering from afar, those first few premonitions of Shmi's pain acted as the
02:58 unnerving earliest hint at the grim fate that was always destined to grip the future Darth
03:02 Vader's loving mother.
03:04 A wild goose chase on the desert planet ensued in Attack of the Clones, only to present the
03:08 deeply tormented Jedi with a scenario involving his mama being abducted by Tusken Raiders
03:13 a month before he landed.
03:15 At that point, seen as a hugely hostile group, to expect Shmi to survive that long being
03:20 held captive by the Raiders was sadly unrealistic.
03:23 And her dying breaths to her little Annie were always necessary in nudging this troubled
03:27 lad down the dark path we all knew he was heading down.
03:31 7.
03:32 Obi-Wan's love is introduced - The Clone Wars
03:35 In another instance of a vital character being introduced in a project set before the events
03:39 fans had already seen come to pass in the likes of Revenge of the Sith and the subsequent
03:43 features that would ultimately unfold, the arrival of Satine Kryze in The Clone Wars
03:47 was always destined to be a bittersweet one.
03:50 While it was a captivating development to see the world of Mandalore ruled by the Duchess
03:54 determined to move the people of her planet on from their largely violent ways of the
03:58 past, the powerful figure who also acted as the unexpected love interest of a certain
04:02 Obi-Wan Kenobi was pretty much doomed from the second it became clear that she and Kenobi
04:06 had a romantic past of sorts.
04:09 Simply put, Satine isn't mentioned in the slightest in the time following on from The
04:13 Clone Wars, so fans were rather morbidly anticipating her demise from the get-go.
04:17 And in the end, it was none other than Kenobi's great adversary Maul who dealt the fatal blow,
04:22 murdering Satine in front of him as he was helpless to save her.
04:25 6.
04:26 A nervous young Boba watches his father on the battlefield - Attack of the Clones
04:31 George Lucas' decision to introduce us to the Fetts who had set the stage for Boba did
04:36 admittedly feel a little shoehorned at first, but not more than that A New Hope special
04:40 edition scene.
04:41 But said origin story of the coolest bounty hunter in this galactic series would ultimately
04:46 provide Boba with a tragic foundation on which the rest of his captivating journey was built
04:50 upon, throughout The Clone Wars, Original Trilogy and subsequent live-action Disney
04:54 Plus series.
04:56 Said tragic event could be seen coming from the minute the jubilant young son of Jango
05:00 started cheering on the violence and carnage he was witnessing going down within the Geonosian
05:04 Petranaki arena, however.
05:06 You don't bring a youngster along for the evidently perilous ride if you're not intending
05:09 to scar him for life, right?
05:11 As expected, it wasn't too long before Jango, fresh off of showing off his slick pistol
05:15 skills in dispatching some Jedi under Riek, well and truly met his mace Windu match, having
05:21 his head taken off by the masterful Jedi in front of his kid's very eyes.
05:25 Dick move, Windu!
05:27 5.
05:28 Leia calling out to Ben harkens back to Luke's passing, The Rise of Skywalker
05:33 While it was admittedly one of the more divisive Star Wars passings, the sight of Luke Skywalker
05:37 finally becoming one with the Force after projecting himself across the galaxy in an
05:41 attempt to reconcile with former student Kylo Ren, while simultaneously aiding the future
05:46 of the Jedi in Rey, was one that had a lasting and profound effect on the grand finale of
05:51 the Skywalker saga.
05:53 One film on from the last Jedi, Ren was once again tasked with duking it out with Palpatine's
05:57 grandkid, yet the fallen Jedi was once again stopped in his tracks by a Force-sensitive
06:02 relative, this time in the form of his mama, General Leia Organa.
06:06 Acting as another life-draining projection of sorts from across the galaxy, it was evident
06:11 from the second that Leia hobbled away to contact her son that this was to be the final
06:15 act for the legendary figure.
06:17 The tragic real-life passing of Carrie Fisher also left many sensing that the series would
06:21 give the iconic face a fitting send-off at some point in the saga-ender too, and in acting
06:26 as the catalyst that would bring Ben back towards the light, Leia's final action felt
06:30 as meaningful as it did gut-wrenching.
06:32 4.
06:33 Obi-Wan is compromised as Dooku is disarmed, Revenge of the Sith
06:39 The knowledge of Darth Vader's eventual rise always brought with it the inevitable
06:42 end of the former Jedi Master known as Count Dooku.
06:45 However, it wasn't precisely clear when his time at Darth Sidious' side would come
06:50 to an end coming into the final prequel entry.
06:52 That was until Obi-Wan Kenobi found himself sidelined in the midst of his rematch alongside
06:57 Anakin Skywalker with the dastardly Sith.
07:00 From the moment the Jedi Master was buried underneath a platform, leaving only the easily
07:04 manipulated Anakin to duke it out with Dooku, all signs pointed to the highly emotional
07:09 Force user losing control and getting some much-needed revenge on the tyrannical Darth
07:14 Tyrannus.
07:15 One "Do it!" later, Skywalker had successfully decapitated the one-time Jedi in front of
07:20 his soon-to-be-master.
07:22 But had Obi-Wan still been conscious, you have to imagine Dooku would have likely lived
07:25 to see the inside of a prison cell instead.
07:28 3.
07:29 Han Solo meets his son face-to-face, the Force awakens
07:32 While many would confess to being wholly shocked at the most devastating development to come
07:36 out of the first sequel flick, that and the fact that Luke Skywalker didn't even get
07:40 the chance to utter a single word, in truth eagle-eyed fans could very much feel this
07:44 demise a-coming.
07:46 With much of the Force Awakens taking inspiration from another beloved Star Wars tale in A New
07:50 Hope, it felt somewhat appropriate that the wise old mentor of this flick would fall in
07:55 a similar fashion to that of Ben Kenobi in that fourth episode.
07:59 Upon stepping out to come face-to-face with his fallen Jedi son, Kylo Ren, the eerie similarities
08:04 to that aforementioned Vader-Kenobi showdown were glaring for many.
08:08 Add in to that the late inclusion of the rest of the heroic gang arriving on the scene to
08:11 watch the pair's interaction from afar, and Han Solo's end was all but confirmed.
08:16 Helpless to save the iconic smuggler as he is impaled by his lad, Rey, like Luke before
08:21 her, is forced to take the next steps on her journey without her newfound mentor.
08:25 Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
08:27 2.
08:28 The movie who tells Anakin Skywalker to stay out of it.
08:31 Revenge of the Sith A great many of the beats that ultimately
08:34 led to the apparent Chosen One heading into the dark side of things could have likely
08:38 been avoided had Anakin Skywalker been supported or just trusted a little more at numerous
08:43 points throughout his gradual fall.
08:45 And while Obi-Wan getting knocked out of the action and leaving Anakin to be manipulated
08:48 by Sidious earlier on in the Revenge of the Sith film couldn't really be helped, the
08:52 way Mace Windu went about ordering Skywalker to keep from interfering with his arrest of
08:57 Palpatine was both avoidable and in the end, deeply foolish.
09:01 It was during this verbal back and forth that it became clear that Anakin's faith in the
09:04 Jedi was at an all-time low, and Windu's rejecting of Anakin's help due to the confusion
09:09 he sensed within him likely didn't help his cause either.
09:12 Then upon inevitably disobeying said order and witnessing Windu suddenly decide that
09:16 Sidious must be killed instead of put on trial - after all, he's too dangerous to be kept
09:20 alive - that loss of faith in the Jedi would finally nudge Anakin over the edge, as he
09:25 betrayed the purple-bladed Jedi Master and set the Great Jedi Purge in motion.
09:30 1.
09:31 The Laser Gate Split the Fight - The Phantom Menace
09:34 The jaw-dropping duel of the fates still sits as one of the most masterful and skillfully
09:38 crafted climaxes the series has to offer.
09:41 Highlighting the sheer size and power of the opposition now standing in their way, both
09:45 Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi find themselves pushed to their limits by the dual-bladed
09:50 Sith Darth Maul early on.
09:51 And with the pair already struggling to best this seemingly indomitable Sith as a unit,
09:56 the introduction of some frustrating laser gates in the thick of the drama acted as a
10:00 rather unnerving hint at what was to come.
10:02 Qui-Gon had already struggled to see off Maul on his own whilst colliding with the mysterious
10:06 Darksider on Tatooine, so despite it acting as one of the most savage and soul-crushing
10:11 acts of the entire saga, his impaling at the hands of Maul as a helpless Obi-Wan watched
10:16 on felt depressingly inevitable from the second those dastardly gates appeared.
10:20 In the end, Maul's defiance would get the better of him as Kenobi eventually dealt a
10:24 seemingly fatal blow to avenge his master's death.
10:27 But the fate-sealing damage had already been done.
