00:13 Mark Fetalco with the Detailier, Rise and Shine Mark.
00:16 The Philippines will launch durian at the China International Import Expo
00:24 that will be held in Shanghai, China next week.
00:27 It is considered to be one of the biggest trade fairs in the world.
00:31 For Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime Flor Cruz,
00:35 this is a good opportunity for Philippine exporters.
00:38 We've been attending this for the past few years
00:42 and we have found it a very important channel
00:47 for our Philippine export products especially to come into China.
00:53 I believe last year we sold about $650 million worth of goods.
01:02 This year we hope to up that to about $700 million.
01:06 17 business enterprises from the Philippines
01:09 that are involved in food, agri-products, and personal care will be there.
01:14 But the highlight this year is the growing of durian from Mindanao.
01:18 According to Flor Cruz, China's acceptance of the Philippines' durian
01:23 since it was first exported to China in April,
01:25 the Philippines is the only country in the world that produces durian in China
01:29 followed by Thailand and Vietnam.
01:31 The other two countries also grow durian.
01:36 But it seems that our durian is, they say it's like, our durian is like gelato.
01:41 It's sweet but not very sweet, but it's also very creamy.
01:46 And I think that's why the Chinese love our Philippine durian.
01:52 Today, the amount of durian sold in China from the Philippines
01:56 is worth more than $150 million.
01:59 It also opened a good opportunity for the livelihood of durian farmers in Davao.
02:04 Our income has increased and our salary has increased.
02:09 We're all happy, especially my family.
02:11 We have a job now.
02:14 Aside from CIIE, the Philippines is also talking to
02:17 a large online selling company in China
02:20 to expand the platform of Filipino enterprises.
02:23 And as long as we can continue that, keep up the quality,
02:27 make it easier for our exporters to come into China,
02:33 then I think it's good for our producers, our farmers in the Philippines.
02:38 It's good for Philippine revenue as well.
02:40 Durian export from the Philippines became possible.
02:43 President Ferdinand R. Marcos visited China in January.
02:47 Floor Cruz is cheering for the continued follow-up
02:50 of potential Chinese investors
02:52 so that more Filipinos can benefit.
02:55 Mark Fetal for Bayan, Beijing, China.
