Creating "Welcome To Rosas" for Disney's Wish

Julia Michaels has your inside look at her song "Welcome To Rosas" from the Disney animated musical movie Wish, directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn.  Wish Cast:  Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Dee Bradley Baker and Frank Welker  Wish will hit the big screen November 22, 2023!

00:01 ♪ Here in the city of Rosa ♪

00:05 - Welcome to Rosa's is the first song you hear

00:08 from the movie.

00:09 I've always loved Disney welcome songs,

00:12 like Frozen and Conto.

00:13 ♪ In the city of Rosa ♪

00:14 It really just sets up where you are

00:16 and where you're going.

00:17 ♪ So like ♪

00:18 ♪ We have this king named Magnifico ♪

00:20 ♪ And he built Rosas many years ago ♪

00:23 ♪ With lightning for hands ♪

00:24 ♪ And eyes that can glow ♪

00:25 - No, no, no, I'm totally kidding.

00:27 ♪ But he is powerful ♪

00:28 - Ariana, she can't help herself 'cause she's a dancer.

00:31 And she's doing these incredible moves.

00:32 So the animators were able to use

00:34 those kind of moves in there too.

00:36 - That was fun, I like that one.

00:37 I like that one a lot.

00:39 - We even actually had a flamenco choreographer

00:42 come in and do choreography to the song.

00:45 ♪ Here in the city of Rosas ♪

00:50 - We used a lot of instruments

00:52 that I don't get to normally use in pop songs.

00:55 We used accordions, castanets, and taiko drums.

00:59 - One of the great joys I had

01:00 was to be able to take that song

01:01 and take it another step further into that world

01:04 in a groove that is evocative of that style.
