Boss David Moyes delighted after West Ham stun Arsenal 3-1 in the EFL Cup
Transcript
00:00 Getting the goals, good performance, but a good, really good, solid team performance.
00:05 I thought the forward players done a really good job tonight, all the front boys.
00:11 And then for long periods we had to be in good defensive organisation and shape to play
00:17 against Arsenal.
00:18 I thought for most of it we coped well.
00:20 And Mahomid Kudus, now you've won against Stoke-Well, and he gets his goal tonight.
00:26 As we saw he scored a good goal against Newcastle.
00:31 He played well at the weekend as well.
00:32 So we're beginning to find ways of getting him closer to starting and playing.
00:38 And he's looking very good.
00:39 Was it important enough to get a win and also a good performance before games are out with
00:40 the competition?
00:41 Was it a pain in your mind?
00:42 It was a week.
00:43 We had a bad week.
00:44 If you look at it before that, I think we were into the international in really good
00:56 form in the main.
00:57 Good start to the season.
01:00 Top of the group in Europe.
01:03 Difficult to do an awful lot more than that.
01:05 But yes, we accept that we didn't play well away at Aston Villa, who have won 14 in a
01:10 row or something at home.
01:11 And then Olympiacos, which we changed a few.
01:15 So the hard one was obviously the Everton game, coming back to play Everton.
01:18 But I've told you many, many times, Thursday, Sunday, sometimes it's got that problem.
01:23 And we found it at the weekend.
01:25 Can you tell us about the cut?
01:29 I've actually not had a chance to see him.
01:30 I just saw, I congratulated him because I thought he played very well tonight.
01:33 But I've actually not had a chance to see what his cut is, actually.
01:37 Last couple of seasons, you've had the feeling that you're progressing in a cup competition,
01:44 reaching the final, winning the final.
01:45 Are you getting that sense with this competition?
01:49 I don't know.
01:50 But maybe we're becoming quite a good cup team, possibly.
01:54 I want to be a really good league team if I can be.
01:57 But if I can't quite do that, then I have to do well in the cups if we can.
02:00 Now, we've only won a game against Arsenal tonight.
02:03 That doesn't get you any trophies tonight for that.
02:06 But we said that a little bit last year when we were on the run to win the Conference League.
02:12 You can only take the game and see what's going to come next.
02:14 The draws in the cups are always hugely important.
02:17 Declan was mainly chaired, there were a few moves with the police tonight that were disappointing.
02:26 I think everybody's entitled to their form of opinion.
02:30 There isn't a person in this stadium tonight who doesn't recognise Declan Rice as a top
02:33 football player.
02:34 But there was a lot of West Ham supporters in there tonight who probably hoped that he
02:38 didn't do so well and their team won.
02:40 So from that point of view, I think that you're always going to get mixed feelings in different
02:47 opinions.
02:48 Do you think that Arsenal have quite a lot of disparity in that?
02:49 Does it show that, in football at this level, that you can't really take those decisions
02:50 when you're up against a very privileged team?
03:05 You know, I've been in football that long and I'm probably one of the most experienced
03:09 managers.
03:10 I think the managers continue to get asked the question about the changes in teams.
03:14 It really surprises me that you haven't noticed that journalists who watch all of football
03:18 wouldn't say, "Well, you've got 18 or 19 players in your squad who are probably good enough
03:23 to play.
03:24 You have a lot of football to play.
03:25 They've got two games."
03:26 Those sort of questions you wouldn't say.
03:29 You would take it near enough for granted that lots of the teams and the managers would
03:33 change their team.
03:34 I really do.
03:35 I find it quite surprising, really.
03:37 Not that you would ask, but I'm sure you've all considered it and think that Arsenal have
03:42 got Newcastle on Saturday and then I think they've got Seville.
03:46 So they've got big games coming up.
03:48 Doesn't the outcome tell the story?
03:51 Well, that's the way you see it, but maybe there's bigger things that they see than certainly
03:56 maybe tonight's game, possibly.
03:57 You didn't make too many changes at this time.
03:58 Did it just feel like it was really important to progress and get some of the build-up back?
04:11 You know, you reminded me of my stats the other day, so I felt it was really important
04:16 that we tried to win and thankfully we got that.
04:28 I don't know all the teams we've got through, but I think that most of them, I think I've
04:32 been told, I think Fulham are through and Liverpool.
04:38 I think you're talking about lots of really, really good sides in the Premier League now.
04:43 There's very few easy games, that's for sure.
04:44 Has the doctor felt the issue with him and is it helping him back for the weekend?
04:50 I couldn't be sure yet, but he just felt his knee and we had him scanned.
04:56 He seems okay, but we're just going to see how he is tomorrow, really.
