00:00 Hi everybody, welcome to NationalWorld.com's Good Week, Bad Week. I'm Nancy Field, Editor-in-Chief
00:21 at NationalWorld.com. Hi, I'm Natalie Dixon, Lifestyle Writer at
00:25 National World. Today, Natalie, we're kicking off with obviously the really, really sad
00:30 news. It has been a terrible week in Hollywood, terrible week for TV fans, but Friends fans
00:37 in particular, with the really sad news that broke at the weekend, that we've lost one
00:42 of our Friends. What was your reaction to it, Natalie? Tell us a bit about it.
00:47 Yeah, so Matthew Perry died this week and I am a huge Friends fan. I genuinely feel
00:53 like I've lost an uncle. I mean, he was such a great character in Friends. He's well-known
01:01 for Friends. He also had parts in amazing films as well. He starred in Fool's Rush
01:07 In with Salma Hayek, Seventeen again with Zac Efron. I just think it's nice to see that
01:14 everyone's going to kind of remember him for his talent and not his struggles with alcohol
01:22 and drugs. So yeah, I can't bring myself to watch it at the minute. It still feels very
01:27 raw. I think it's going to be a while for sort
01:31 of proper, the true Friends fans who've watched the episodes and have the favourite episodes
01:35 and watched them time and time again. I think it's going to be a while till people can bring
01:40 themselves to do it. I mean, there were so many tributes that came in straight away,
01:43 but the actual cast, the other five Friends, it took quite a long time, a relative long
01:48 time for them even to sort of come out and say anything at all, didn't it?
01:52 Yeah. I mean, it took a couple of days and I think it was probably for the shock to actually
01:56 sink in. I know that it took me a few days to even genuinely feel that it was true. There
02:03 was still part of me that kept on thinking it can't be real. And I think it was nice
02:08 that obviously they got all together and they released a joint statement. And then hopefully
02:12 in the future they will sort of come out and speak openly a little bit more as well. I
02:17 think that's what the fans definitely want.
02:20 On a scale of Friends fans, I'm definitely not at the top end, I'm afraid. You clearly
02:25 are. But his life was an interesting one, wasn't it? And he wasn't afraid to talk about
02:29 his troubles in his own autobiography. He spoke a lot about his battles with drug and
02:35 alcohol. And I read in one of the last interviews that he did, that kind of when people said,
02:40 what would you like to be remembered for? He really wanted to be remembered for helping
02:42 people and for being kind and sort of sharing his battle so it can help other people. And
02:48 that's a really nice legacy from somebody who was really knowing because he's an actor
02:52 and he's an entertainer.
02:53 Yeah, definitely. I think the fact that he's been so open and honest, I think he was in
02:59 and out of rehab for 14, 15 times. He was sober for a very, very long time. But yeah,
03:07 I totally agree, like to leave such a legacy with Friends, but also for the fact of remember
03:13 him for his kindness and what he did and give him back as well to everyone and helping them.
03:21 Yeah, it does bring a whole new aspect to Friends. I think people are going to see it
03:25 in a different light. But I do think, I mean, it carried on, hasn't it? Generations love
03:30 the series. And I think that will just carry on. So I think his story and all the tributes
03:36 are positive. I've not seen anything negative at all. So I think his wish to be fondly remembered
03:41 will definitely come true.
03:42 Yeah.
03:43 But on a very different subject, then, it's also been Halloween this week. Who is the
03:48 superstar of Halloween year in, year out that nobody ever talks to, do they?
03:55 Well, Heidi Klum has kind of got well known for being the queen of Halloween. I think
04:03 this year she came out as the centre of a peacock, all dressed in blue with over the
04:10 top aesthetics and makeup. And then she had an entourage of about 10 people that made
04:16 up her flock of feathers. I don't know, I think her outfits just seem to be getting
04:22 weirder and more bizarre. I mean, her husband was dressed as an egg. And I kind of have
04:31 this vision that she just sort of told him, you're going to be dressed as an egg because
04:35 I'm going as a peacock and him sort of like, oh, OK, then. Yeah, that's fine.
04:41 Just because you don't very much?
04:43 Yeah, I just think it's just weird. But yeah, I think she's been hosting the Halloween party
04:49 for the last 20 years and she obviously loves it and embraces it. So good on her. But it
04:55 just it was I wasn't a fan.
04:57 Did you not, you didn't like the outfit at all?
05:00 No, not at all. I just thought it was weird.
05:04 It was a little bit bizarre, I've got to admit. But I say what bugs me about it? Maybe maybe
05:09 I'm too English. It's just not Halloween. Where's the dripping blood and where's the
05:14 witches and the wizards and the terror? A lot of the celebrity ones and all the Kardashian
05:18 ones, people are even dressing as other celebrities. And it's not fancy dress. If I missed the
05:26 point here, it's meant to be Halloween and scary, isn't it?
05:29 I think that it's the kind of it's a very British thing of how we look at Halloween.
05:33 I think Americans for a long time have kind of just looked at it as a night to just dress
05:38 up, be who you want to be. The bigger, the better then. Yeah. But yeah, unfortunately,
05:45 we still think you need to be a witch or you need to be a vampire or something.
05:50 I wouldn't let Matt Mason went out trick or treating, came back with a massive, ludicrous
05:54 amount of sweets just from going around the estate in Arrows. And he only had some dripping
05:58 blood and a little bit of face paint. But that's what it's about for me. You don't need
06:02 to spend fortune. I was looking back at some of Heidi Klum's best outfits. And I'll tell
06:07 you what my absolute I mean, she did Shrek. She went as like a glowworm or some sort of
06:12 bug one year. But one year she went as herself. Did you see the year she went as herself?
06:15 And then she was surrounded by lookalikes. She went as herself and then had like about
06:20 10 or 12 clones of herself as well. I thought that was quite funny because the fact that
06:28 she didn't really have to make too much of an effort other than doing her hair and makeup
06:32 and wearing a nice outfit. And that was probably a nice change for her. I think for me, her
06:39 you can call it her best or her worst outfit. But was when she sort of went as a completely
06:44 skinless sort of figure. You can just see all the muscles. And I think she once went
06:51 as Halloween. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I needed to come with like an advisory or something
06:57 like a PG certificate. Very, very scary. But yeah, she she definitely has some bizarre
07:05 ideas. Yes, she does. She does. Who else have we got on? I think she's had a good week.
07:12 You think she's had a bad week. Who else have we got on the good week bad list? Who else
07:15 do you want to talk about Natalie? So I would say on the flip side of Halloween, I think
07:21 that all of the Kardashians really just brought their A game. I mean, you're probably going
07:27 to completely disagree with me because I think Kim K and she teamed up with her daughter
07:33 Northwest. It wasn't Halloween. It wasn't scary. But they hands down one Halloween for
07:39 me because they dressed as Cher and Dion from Clueless. It's such an iconic film. They went
07:47 all out with the matching check outfits, which was really cute. I did wonder whether or not
07:53 I mean, Northwest is only 10 years old. The film is a PG 13 rating. And I don't know whether
08:01 or not she's actually seen it and completely understands why it's such an iconic film.
08:05 But yeah, I just thought that was really, really good. And then sisters Kendall and
08:11 Kylie also dressed as a retro film from the 90s. They went a sugar and spice from Batman
08:18 Forever. But yeah, they all looked amazing. I think what was bizarre though, is the fact
08:24 that all of the Kardashians apart from Khloe Kardashian, all kind of wore about three different
08:31 Halloween outfits over the weekend. They also had like, at least a handful, like maybe they
08:37 were partying Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Halloween as well.
08:42 That's not bizarre. That's very much Kardashian style. I feel every time they say nip to the
08:46 toilet or wash their hands, they've got to change something. The amount of effort they
08:50 put into how they appear is staggering, but then they've made literally billions off it
08:55 combined haven't they? So you can't really argue with it. But yeah, I saw the pictures.
09:00 I quite liked it. I thought it was quite a nice sort of mom daughter moment. And I feel
09:03 I'm not sure you always get that much with the younger generation of Kardashians and
09:08 Jenners, but it looked quite cute. But then again, they just need an American fancy dress
09:13 to say, this is not Halloween. It's a tradition. It goes back a long way. It's a pagan festival.
09:18 It definitely wasn't about pretending to be other superstars or pretending to be yourself,
09:22 but it looks like everyone had fun. And I must admit, I do love looking for the photos.
09:26 Yeah. I mean, my five-year-old went dressed as a werewolf. His mask came off within five
09:33 seconds. So he just looked like he was walking around with a blood covered outfit on. And
09:39 that was as much effort he looked like he'd made. But yeah, everyone seemed to sort of
09:43 have a good time.
09:44 That's it. It has been. Yeah. Halloween has been and gone. Now, I think it's been a good
09:50 week for Halloween overall, and probably a good week for the Kardashians because we also
09:54 didn't mention Kylie Jenner's just launched her new clothing range. It costs an absolute
09:59 fortune. Maybe we could talk about that next week. I know you've been trying to buy stuff,
10:03 but actually it's been a really, really bad week for government, a bad week for lots of
10:07 them. But Dominic Cummings in particular has been hammered by everybody and just came across
10:12 as a really horrible man. We're not going to disagree on him. Or would you think he's
10:16 had a good week or a bad week?
10:18 No, we're definitely not going to disagree on him. I think he was kind of, he was one
10:23 of the most hated men in COVID when it was locked down and he sort of broke the rules.
10:29 But I think listening to the COVID inquiry this week and hearing his sort of work environment
10:37 and how he behaved, I think he's just turned into even more of the most hated man in the
10:41 UK.
10:42 200,000 people died and they were partying and they just didn't have a clue what they
10:48 were doing. And they were calling each other obscene names that we wouldn't repeat. None
10:53 of them had any confidence in each other. And I just think it's a terrible week for
10:58 them, but terrible week for us as a country. In particular, I've got friends who kind of
11:03 really are keeping away from it because they literally lost parents. They weren't able
11:06 to say bye. They died in care homes while these people were behaving like that. So I'm
11:11 glad the inquiry is there. I suspect the Tory party aren't there. I think it's been a bad
11:15 week for the Tory party overall. I think, I mean, my mum keeps saying to me, they're
11:20 not trying to win this election. Things are so bad in the country. This is the election
11:23 not to win. And if you wanted to not win an election, they're doing a very good job at
11:26 that, aren't they?
11:27 Yeah, it's just awful to hear everything that's coming out now. I think the country didn't
11:32 have much confidence in the government. And now it's just even worse off than when we
11:38 began.
11:39 That's it. Bad week for the country in general, led by a failing government. Thanks, Natalie.
11:46 It's been a pleasure. We will see you soon, hopefully again on Good Week, Bad Week.
11:50 Bye.
11:51 Bye.
11:52 Bye.
11:53 Bye.
11:54 Bye.
11:55 Bye.
