00:00 As the dust settles on an extremely entertaining year in tennis, we've seen major winners'
00:07 records broken by none other than Novak Djokovic, icons of the game such as Rafael Nadal looking
00:13 likely to be moving on, and young stars breaking boundaries to reach the top of the world rankings.
00:19 Let's start by taking a look at the Spanish tennis hero Nadal and a certain star who could
00:25 go on to follow his hero's footsteps. I mean, Nadal, I mean, yes, he is without a doubt one of the best
00:33 competitors across tennis and sport in general as well. It kind of almost feels like Nadal hasn't
00:40 left because literally Alcaraz does seem to be like his replacement and it's kind of incredible
00:46 to see there are so many similarities between them. It remains to be seen if he can come back.
00:52 I mean, I would never ever count him out to be honest because he's shown multiple times that
00:58 he can come back from an injury and go right to the top again and a lot of players haven't
01:04 been able to do that. There's been a resurgence of form throughout the year by Russian Daniel Medvedev
01:11 who joins Carlos Alcaraz as the only two players to have won more than one Masters 1000 titles
01:17 this year. So what could the Russian go on to achieve when the fresh calendar of tennis action
01:23 rolls around? Medvedev is unbelievable what a competitor he is. I mean, he does not give up,
01:30 does he? He can just keep on rallying from the baseline over and over and Medvedev is showing
01:36 that he's back in there. I think he did have a bit of a kind of lacklustre 12 months. I don't
01:44 know whether obviously being banned from Wimbledon and that whole thing about him being Russian
01:49 had an impact on him. I don't think it can be easy to deal with that, to be made to feel like
01:54 you're responsible for something that isn't within your control. But it's great to see that he's back
01:59 at the top of his game. As the tennis world are preparing for the action in 2024, who could go on
02:06 to become a major winner in the new year? I mean, in terms of surprise, I mean, I know Alcaraz isn't
02:12 a surprise, but I didn't think he was going to be so quick to master all three surfaces. So that
02:19 just shows that he's got a great future ahead. The fact that he's already won Wimbledon at 20,
02:24 you know, he's got a hard court slam and we know that he's going to be great on clay anyway. So
02:29 that just shows I was a bit dubious last year because I thought, okay, he won the US Open in
02:34 Djokovic's absence. He got the number one ranking with very few points because Djokovic wasn't
02:39 around to kind of challenge him. And I think for me, he's really proved that he is going to be the
02:46 next person to watch. A roundup by a tennis expert looking ahead to the action next year,
02:53 with a new battle at the top emerging between Djokovic and Alcaraz.
02:58 It guarantees more viewers tuning in and more drama than ever before.
