00:00 Dan Dickow here for Gonzaga Nation.
00:03 Well, a couple quick takeaways after the first exhibition game where Gonzaga won 96-58 against
00:10 Lewis and Clark State.
00:11 They shot 49% from the field, only 5 of 21 from the three-point line, but that wasn't
00:17 too big of a concern in my eyes as I think that's something that's going to become a
00:23 strength of this team throughout the course of the year.
00:26 I think Hickman's going to shoot it well.
00:28 I think Venter's going to shoot it better than he did tonight.
00:31 Nimhart has a chance to shoot it as well as Stromer, but I think the biggest takeaway
00:35 is Graham Ekay looked healthy.
00:37 Graham Ekay looked dominant in his opening effort for Gonzaga, 24 points, 8 rebounds
00:45 in about 20 minutes.
00:48 He was a very effective 11 of 13 from the field.
00:52 And then you compare that with another efficient effort from the front court with the lefties,
00:56 and that would be Brayden Huff.
00:58 After a good start and effort in the craziness in the Kennel scrimmage, he backed it up with
01:04 a great effort in game tonight with 21 points, 8 of 11 from the field, 9 rebounds as well.
01:12 So I thought he was tremendous.
01:14 Another takeaway that I thought was awesome to see was the pace, the control, and how
01:22 Ryan Nimhart dictated terms during the course of the game.
01:26 He didn't shoot it great, only 2 of 8 from the field for 5 points, but he had 10 assists
01:31 with only one turnover.
01:32 So he didn't force the action when it wasn't there.
01:36 He did a great job of getting the defense to commit, finding his teammates for open
01:41 looks or pick and roll opportunities with the dive, or if it was an opportunity to back
01:49 it up, improve an angle, get it to the post-up situation with either Brayden Huff or Graham
01:55 Ekay.
01:56 He did a terrific job there.
01:57 So all in all, good effort for Gonzaga in a 96-58 win.
02:03 Myself and Adam Morrison will be breaking it down a lot more on next week's episode
02:08 of Talkin' Zags, where we'll talk about this as well as leading into the first regular
02:14 season game of the year against the Yale out of the Ivy League.
