00:00 The Malaysian Medical Association has lashed out at the government for shooting down its
00:07 request for an increase in on-call allowances for doctors.
00:12 MMA President Dr Azizan Abdulaziz said the government's outright rejection of the proposal
00:19 to increase public healthcare doctors' weekend on-call allowance from the current hourly
00:23 rate of RM9.16 to RM25 was "utterly disappointing".
00:30 She said that the ministry deeming RM9.16 an hour an "appropriate" rate is an "insult
00:36 not only to doctors but all healthcare workers in the country".
00:41 She pointed out that some waiters in the country get paid a higher hourly rate than doctors.
00:48 In rejecting the MMA's call for a revision on doctors' on-call allowances earlier, the
00:53 government said it is bound by a 2019 service circular by the Finance Ministry and Public
00:59 Services Department.
