00:00 Creativity has always been a uniquely human trait.
00:04 But with the advent of the digital revolution,
00:07 machines began to compute, calculate, and soon, create.
00:12 As artificial intelligence evolved,
00:15 it not only mimicked our creativity,
00:17 it began to redefine it.
00:19 Now, we have machines that are generative
00:22 and create something out of nothing.
00:25 I would agree that I have never seen in my lifetime
00:28 anything that has challenged the status quo
00:31 greater than AI art has in terms of an art movement.
00:35 It's only a matter of time before AI can generate entire movies
00:40 without actors, without directors, without stage sets.
00:43 We built a system that you would give it lyrics,
00:46 and it would come up with different ways that you can sing them.
00:49 These machines don't know anything.
00:51 We can't be fooled by the fact that they do great imitations of human activity.
00:55 They don't have any understanding of what they're writing or drawing or anything.
00:58 They are not conscious, intelligent actors.
01:01 Whether it be privacy or copyright issues,
01:04 we are so far behind what's happening
01:07 that we don't really even know how to address it.
01:11 I think that we as humans may be tempted to say
01:16 that we are able to create something that is sentient,
01:19 and this is hubris on our part, right?
01:21 We want to play God.
01:22 I think we all realize that if you're ignoring AI right now,
01:26 and you're creative, you're doing it at your own peril.
01:29 Huge numbers of jobs in the world require the creation of visual images.
01:33 There are people, human beings, who make a living doing that stuff.
01:37 They're in trouble. They're in big trouble.
01:40 We are not asking it to be an extension of our senses.
01:43 We are asking it to be like us.
01:45 And that's pretty magical, and it's pretty mystical,
01:49 and it's pretty mystifying, and it's pretty scary.
01:53 What will become of art, imagination, and soul in the age of AI?
01:59 (explosion)
