00:12 >> We now go to Chile.
00:14 The Pan American Games continue.
00:15 We are joined by Eduardo Regonesi.
00:17 Hello, Eduardo.
00:18 What's new there in Santiago?
00:20 >> Hello. Good afternoon.
00:25 Live from Santiago.
00:26 And the first time in a couple weeks that it feels
00:29 like a Sunday afternoon here in Chile.
00:32 There's no sound in the street.
00:35 There's no crowds cheering.
00:36 There's a lot of less traffic right now
00:38 because all the action it's already completed
00:41 for Santiago 2023.
00:43 All the action in regards of sports
00:45 because we still have the closing ceremony,
00:47 which is going to be happening later on tonight.
00:49 It's not going to happen here at the national stadium,
00:51 the stadium that you see behind me.
00:52 It's going to happen at La Florida Bicentenario Stadium,
00:56 which is a couple miles south from here.
00:59 But the main action happened here
01:01 at the national stadium today.
01:02 The last sports were happening.
01:04 It all concluded around 2 p.m. on what was a very,
01:08 very good, well-organized game.
01:11 Very exciting games that gave us a lot of emotions,
01:14 a lot of unexpected results, and a lot of great stories
01:17 that we're going to be covering later on for you guys.
01:19 Let's do a quick update of today's results, shall we?
01:22 Let's start with archery that's happening this morning.
01:25 The United States won the gold.
01:26 Mexico took the gold also on the female side.
01:29 United States winning on the men's side.
01:31 In basketball, this sport is a strange sport for us sometimes.
01:35 It was played in the Spanish stadium.
01:38 It's a very Spanish sport, as you call it, from Spain.
01:41 Mexico got the gold medal against Uruguay
01:44 on the women's front tennis, this discipline.
01:46 And on the men's side, Mexico also got the gold,
01:49 defeating Cuba.
01:50 Argentina got double gold on men's and women's trinket.
01:54 That's another variation of this game.
01:57 On the exciting BMX discipline, this is happening right here
02:01 at the National Stadium.
02:02 We were covering early this morning.
02:04 Of course, BMX freestyle was first introduced in Lima in 2019.
02:08 This is the second time at Pan American levels.
02:10 It also happened at Tokyo 2020.
02:13 It's going to happen at Paris 2024.
02:15 But today, it was the second time at Pan American,
02:18 as we said, and United States took the gold
02:20 in the girls' side.
02:22 Chile took silver.
02:23 And Venezuela, Catherine Seiran, took the bronze medal
02:26 for the women's.
02:27 On the men's side, Argentina, Chile,
02:30 and Brazil completed the podium.
02:32 So a South American podium there on the men's side.
02:35 In golf, Mexico was the winner, followed by Colombia
02:38 and the United States on third position.
02:41 Let's talk about speed skating.
02:43 Unbelievable performance by Colombia.
02:45 We all knew that Colombia was strong in bicycle, in skating.
02:48 But today, they rectified that.
02:51 They went above expectations.
02:53 Just check it out.
02:54 Speed skating, women's 10-meter dash.
02:56 Colombia got first.
02:58 Colombia got second.
02:59 Ecuador got the bronze medal.
03:00 On the men's side, first place, Colombia.
03:03 Second place, Colombia.
03:04 Third place, Chile.
03:06 On the women's 500 meters, it was United States.
03:09 Ecuador and Colombia got bronze.
03:12 And on the men's 500 meter, Colombia again
03:14 with the gold medal.
03:15 Mexico with the silver.
03:18 And Chile with the bronze.
03:20 So Colombia got a podium, at least one person in each podium.
03:23 Two of them with two medals on each podium.
03:26 On the men's 500, there was a bit of a controversy.
03:29 The Chilean athlete was pushed out of the way
03:32 by the Brazilian athlete, making him fall.
03:35 The Brazilian finished in third place, but he was disqualified
03:39 for pushing the Chilean off the field.
03:42 The Chilean, Emmanuel Silva, we met him here.
03:45 He was sitting right where we were.
03:46 He talked to us.
03:47 He was going for gold.
03:48 Sadly, he had to settle for bronze because of the little
03:51 small accident that happened on the court.
03:53 And finally, in table tennis, Brazil defeated Canada
03:57 for the gold.
03:58 So Brazil having a very, very good tournament.
04:01 Let's check out quickly how the standings are going.
04:04 And this is the final standing because there's no more
04:06 competitions.
04:07 As we said, United States, big winner of the competitions,
04:10 124 gold medals, 286 total.
04:14 Brazil doing very well, 66 gold medals, 205 total.
04:18 Mexico, 52 gold medals, 142 total.
04:22 Mexico, big winner.
04:24 Also, those are the top three, the podiums there.
04:26 Let's talk about Cuba.
04:27 Cuba finished fifth with 30 gold medals, 69 total.
04:31 Very good showing by Cuba.
04:34 And also Colombia, 29 gold medals, 101 total.
04:37 A lot of medals for Colombia.
04:38 Not that many goals, but very good performance for Colombia.
04:42 Finally, Argentina finished in seventh.
04:44 Argentina was not doing very well.
04:45 In fact, until yesterday, they were in the 12th position
04:48 with only five or six medals.
04:50 But yesterday they had a strong, strong day, winning
04:52 nine gold medals.
04:53 And today they finished with 17 gold medals, 75 total.
04:58 This is the scoreboard.
05:02 Venezuela closes the top 10 ranking with eight gold
05:05 medals, 44 total.
05:07 So very exciting, very moving table.
05:10 And it's been a very exciting couple of weeks here
05:12 in Santiago, Chile.
05:13 And of course, we're going to keep working for you guys
05:15 to have a complete summary and complete report of everything
05:18 that's going to be tonight's closing ceremony here at
05:21 Bicentenario Stadium in La Florida.
05:23 From Santiago, Chile, I'm Eduardo Regonesi.
