The Great Escaper Movie Trailer HD - Plot synopsis: In the summer of 2014 - the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings -- octogenarian Bernie Jordan made global headlines. He'd staged a "great escape" from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades. It was a story that captured the imagination of the world -- Bernie seemed to embody the defiant, "can-do" spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course, it wasn't the whole story. It was the story we all tell ourselves to make war and old age bearable. The bitter-sweet script explores the reality with wit and a very big heart. Bernie's adventure, spanning a mere 48 hours, also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene -- the story celebrates their love without sentimentality and with an eye to the lessons we can all learn from the Greatest Generation.

00:00 Right, soon as we've had some grub,
00:03 I'll take you for a spin along the front.
00:05 And when we get back,
00:07 I think they've got a male stripper for you.
00:10 What?!
00:11 I'll make that last bit up.
00:13 I want to go to France.
00:17 What are you on about?
00:19 The trip to the beaches. D-Day.
00:22 Really sorry, Bernie.
00:24 You left it too late.
00:27 I couldn't leave you all on your own.
00:29 Unless...
00:31 you have to.
00:33 Where is he?
00:36 He's disappeared off the face of the earth.
00:38 He's in France.
00:40 Bonjour.
00:41 At 90.
00:42 Well, he has done it before.
00:44 Only then, of course, they were shooting at him.
00:47 So determined to honour his fallen comrade,
00:50 the D-Day veteran made a break for the coast
00:53 and mounted what has now been dubbed
00:55 the Great Escape.
00:57 Who are these people?
00:59 They're Germans.
01:00 Oh.
01:01 This was your beach?
01:03 Yeah.
01:04 Me too.
01:16 At your age, Adèle,
01:23 you cling to every second.
01:26 And every second is worth clinging to.
01:29 I'm sorry, really.
01:31 I've been in the papers.
01:33 I've been on TV.
01:35 90-year-old coffin dodger.
01:38 Honours the glorious dead.
01:43 What a waste.
01:46 Eh?
01:48 What a waste.
01:51 What a waste.
01:52 If you want to honour your friend, Bernie,
01:56 you've spent 70 years loving me.
02:00 I'd go anywhere with you.
02:03 We have never wasted one second of our time together.
02:09 Are you coming to bed?
02:20 Yours or mine?
02:21 Oh.
