00:00 Hi, I'm Bruna Marchesini and I'm gonna show you everything
00:03 that makes me really proud to be Brazilian.
00:05 We're gonna eat some food, I'm gonna teach you some slangs
00:08 and some of the best places to visit.
00:11 (upbeat music)
00:13 When you go to Rio, there's a lot of yummy food
00:26 that you have to try.
00:27 So we have a empim.
00:29 It's really, really yummy.
00:31 It's like, how can I say this?
00:33 Just give me a second.
00:38 All right, so good.
00:42 This is fried cassava.
00:44 It's similar to yuca, it's under the same umbrella.
00:48 Churrasco is the Brazilian barbecue.
00:51 So if you go to a churrascaria,
00:53 then you can have this as a starter.
00:56 If you say, I want some manioc or empim frito,
01:00 that's what they're gonna give you
01:01 and you're gonna love it for sure.
01:03 This is coxinha.
01:05 Basically, it's filled with chicken, shredded chicken
01:08 and catupiry or requeijão.
01:11 It's a Brazilian type of cheese.
01:13 I think it would be similar to cream cheese, but better.
01:18 I'm sorry.
01:19 (laughs)
01:20 Okay, so I'm gonna do this for y'all.
01:22 So this is what it looks like inside.
01:26 I know.
01:28 After walking around in Rio,
01:31 you should order a coxinha and have it with guaraná,
01:35 the Brazilian soda.
01:37 Perfect.
01:38 Mm.
01:42 Ooh.
01:45 I'm sorry, I'm just so,
01:48 you don't understand how happy I am.
01:50 Jesus.
01:51 If you go to a kid's party,
01:54 you're gonna have coxinha and a bunch of salgadinhos,
01:56 that's how we call it.
01:57 So there's the meat one, there's the risole,
02:01 the empadas, they're similar to empanadas.
02:05 Or it doesn't have to be a kid's party, I'm lying.
02:08 If you go to one of my parties,
02:09 you're gonna find coxinha.
02:12 And if you go to Brazil, you need to try a caipirinha.
02:15 The OG is made with lemons and cachaça.
02:19 I wanna say it's like a rum, a Brazilian rum.
02:23 It's made of sugar cane.
02:26 Let's see.
02:27 That's good.
02:31 That's actually good.
02:33 Not super strong, not super sweet.
02:37 That's great.
02:37 For me, the best caipirinha vibe is during a feijoada.
02:43 Feijoada is like this really typical,
02:46 it's not only a dish, it's a ritual
02:49 that involves a lot of beans, rice, pork,
02:53 and there's covi, which is kale,
02:55 but it's prepared in a Brazilian way.
02:58 You can go to a place to have a feijoada
03:00 or a friend will invite you.
03:02 So if you go to Brazil, talk to me,
03:04 I'll invite you to a feijoada at my place.
03:06 Involves samba and a lot of music,
03:09 so it really feels like a ritual.
03:10 And it's a Sunday or Saturday type of thing.
03:13 I'm really surprised that LA has really good Brazilian food.
03:18 And I'm happy for you.
03:20 I'm really happy for you.
03:22 I am.
03:22 No, we're not.
03:28 No, I have my caipirinha.
03:35 When I'm inviting people to Brazil,
03:44 I'm like, there's a lot to see,
03:45 so I'll try to show you some of my favorite places to go.
03:49 So I'm from Rio, right here,
03:53 but we're gonna talk about Rio later.
03:56 One of my favorite places to go to is Bahia.
04:00 Bahia, everything about it, it's magical.
04:03 It has a lot of African influence,
04:06 so the food is different, the culture is different,
04:09 the music is different.
04:11 New Year's, they're like a big thing for Brazilians.
04:15 We like to wear white.
04:17 It's a big ritual.
04:18 And New Year's in Bahia, it's a lot of fun.
04:23 Carnival in Bahia is amazing.
04:27 You should definitely go to Bahia and Rio.
04:29 Completely different type of parties.
04:32 It's all carnival, but it's really different.
04:35 São Paulo, a lot of people go to São Paulo.
04:38 It's like one of the most famous states in Brazil.
04:42 I would say São Paulo, it's like the New York of Brazil,
04:47 while Rio is the LA of Brazil.
04:50 I hope Brazilians don't come after me after saying this.
04:54 If you go to Brazil, please just spend a year.
04:58 Move to Brazil.
04:59 What are you doing if you're not living in Brazil?
05:02 I think most of the stuff that we're gonna talk about,
05:05 it's in the city of Rio.
05:07 So Rio is a beautiful city.
05:09 There's this place called Pedra da Gávea.
05:12 I don't love hiking, but if you do like hiking,
05:17 you should definitely go to Pedra da Gávea
05:21 and you'll get a beautiful view of the city
05:24 when you get there.
05:25 Copacabana Beach, you've heard singers singing about it,
05:29 singing about Ipanema Beach.
05:31 Almost like it's all one beach right next to each other.
05:35 So we have Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana.
05:38 That's the right pronunciation, by the way.
05:41 It's Copacabana.
05:42 How do you guys say it?
05:43 - Copacabana.
05:44 - Copacabana.
05:46 Copacabana.
05:47 Okay, I'll accept Copacabana or Ipanema,
05:51 but it's Copacabana, Ipanema.
05:56 So when you're trying to find a friend that is at the beach,
05:59 he's gonna ask like, "What post you're next to?"
06:03 Basically, there are sections
06:05 and there's a number for every section.
06:08 So you're gonna be like, "I'm next to the Posto 9,
06:11 "the Posto 9, Posto 4."
06:14 So it's easier to find your friends.
06:16 The place I'm living at right now,
06:19 it's close to like a gay section and I love it.
06:22 It's always a lot of fun.
06:24 I have friends that only go to a certain posto.
06:27 I like the food, I like the type of people,
06:29 I like the vibe.
06:31 And one thing that is really different from LA,
06:35 we have a lot of food at the beach.
06:38 Not only food, like you can buy
06:41 almost everything at the beach.
06:44 I'd never heard of a person
06:46 that didn't feel welcomed in Brazil.
06:50 We really offer like our best,
06:52 but also it's not that hard to get on our bad side.
06:56 One thing you should not do
06:59 is mention how dangerous you think it is.
07:05 I feel like every place in the world, it's different.
07:09 And it has like the bad part and the good part.
07:12 It's a safe, really amazing country
07:15 and you're definitely gonna have a great time.
07:18 Just go with an open heart and you'll be fine.
07:21 If you're planning on spending some time in Brazil
07:27 or in Rio, you're gonna hear certain expressions
07:32 you're not gonna understand.
07:33 They're gonna make no sense.
07:35 Like this one, mão de vaca.
07:38 Mão is hand, vaca is cow.
07:41 Cow's hand, it's for a stingy person.
07:44 So, and I guess it's because vacas, they don't have hands.
07:48 So their hands are like, they're closed.
07:51 So they don't let go of the money.
07:53 So this is the regular A, right?
07:56 And if you add a T on top of it,
07:59 it gives you the M sound.
08:02 Make sense?
08:03 Mão.
08:04 Without it, it would be mau.
08:07 With it, it's mão.
08:08 Pisar na bola, to step on the ball.
08:16 It means like when you do something wrong.
08:19 I'm sorry guys, eu pisei na bola.
08:21 Like I, yeah, I was not supposed to do this.
08:24 I really think it's related to soccer
08:26 because we're so obsessed with soccer
08:28 that it's like, oh my gosh, you stepped on the ball.
08:32 You idiot.
08:33 Arrasou.
08:35 Arrasou.
08:36 How do I translate arrasou?
08:41 Arrasou, it's like you nailed it.
08:43 You did it girl.
08:45 Arrasou.
08:46 But arrasar, what is the definition
08:50 of arrasar in Portuguese?
08:52 I don't know.
08:53 You'll have to Google it.
08:54 If you wanna get to know more about Brazil,
09:00 it's important to know the people
09:03 that made Brazilian culture so incredible.
09:07 So I'm gonna introduce you to a few icons.
09:09 Let's start with Anitta.
09:11 Anitta is a Brazilian singer,
09:14 number one on Spotify, blah, blah, blah, all that.
09:18 She sings pop music and a lot of Brazilian funk.
09:23 Brazilian funky, it's different than just funk.
09:28 Brazilian funk is like twerk music.
09:31 It's party music.
09:33 You're gonna go out and you're gonna shake your ass.
09:37 And Anitta is the queen of that.
09:42 In Brazil, Anitta is one icon and her butt, it's another.
09:46 Yeah.
09:47 And she's also one of my friends that I'm really proud of
09:51 and it's really great to see her accomplishing great things
09:55 inside and outside of the country.
09:57 And also, don't even come with the excuse,
10:01 oh, but I don't speak Portuguese.
10:03 She sings in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
10:07 So you have no excuse.
10:09 Come on.
10:13 Don't disappoint me.
10:15 This is Gisele Bündchen.
10:17 That's how we say her name, okay?
10:21 That's how her mom probably says her name.
10:26 Nice as human being, involved with so many good causes,
10:30 like NGOs.
10:31 She's really vocal about everything she believes.
10:34 Probably we've seen her in the Victoria's Secret
10:38 fashion shows and on the cover of every single magazine.
10:42 Okay, this is Brazilian royalty, okay?
10:48 This is Thais Araújo, one of my favorite actors.
10:53 She is married to also one of our greatest actors,
10:57 Lázaro Ramos.
10:58 I would say they're like Beyonce and Jay-Z.
11:02 I grew up doing what Thais does and did for years.
11:07 I did my first soap opera when I was seven.
11:11 Soap operas are huge in Brazil.
11:19 And I think I did like 13, 14 soap operas.
11:22 And yeah, Thais was always an inspiration.
11:25 We used to work at the same company
11:27 that is the biggest TV channel in Brazil
11:30 that is called TV Globo.
11:32 I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to know her.
11:36 I just gotta say that this lady right here,
11:39 this is our Meryl Streep.
11:42 So just do yourself a favor
11:46 and Google Fernanda Montenegro.
11:48 One of the greatest actors in the entire world.
11:53 Oscar nominee, just that.
11:57 'Cause I could talk for hours about her.
12:00 Thank you so much for watching.
12:01 I hope you had as much fun as I did.
12:04 And I hope to see you soon in Brazil.
12:07 Bye.
12:08 (dramatic music)
