00:03 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for what you might want to
00:08 keep in mind ahead of the sixth and final season of the royal semi-historical drama,
00:13 The Crown.
00:14 "But uh, we were obviously, we met at university, St. Andrews."
00:19 Number 10.
00:20 A testy relationship between monarch and heir.
00:23 Seasons three through five of The Crown showed a complex relationship between Queen Elizabeth
00:27 II and her eldest son, Prince Charles.
00:30 Reports indicate that their bond was distant during Charles' upbringing given royal obligations,
00:35 which meant he was often left in the care of nannies.
00:38 As the years passed, however, mother and son developed shared interests and mutual respect,
00:43 bridging some of the gap.
00:44 Still, season five in particular faced criticism for depicting the prince's attempts to challenge
00:49 the crown.
00:50 "If we want to preserve what's best about the crown, then two modern, forward-thinking
00:57 men might need to work together to help protect, well, not only the monarch's future, but…"
01:04 Now the big question is, how will their relationship play out in the final season?
01:09 It will be interesting to see if the show will stick to its storyline, or take a new
01:13 turn based on feedback and unfolding real-world situations.
01:16 "We owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to their mother.
01:23 For her love, affection, guidance, understanding, and example."
01:29 Number 9.
01:31 Season 6, a key element of the initial blueprint
01:34 When The Crown was first pitched to Netflix, it was meant to be a six-season saga spanning
01:38 six decades.
01:39 "I'm just worried, mummy, that if we continue to hold on to these Victorian notions of how
01:45 the monarchy should look, how it should feel, then the world will move on."
01:51 However, during the planning of the fifth season, creator Peter Morgan decided to end
01:55 the story there, feeling that it had come to a perfect close.
01:59 He would later pivot back to the original idea, though, after realizing there were more
02:03 layers to explore, and that the stories deserved more time.
02:07 "Some portion of our natural selves is always lost.
02:10 We have all made sacrifices.
02:13 It is not a choice.
02:17 It is a duty."
02:18 He emphasized that the final season wouldn't reach the present day, but would offer a more
02:22 in-depth exploration of the same period.
02:24 "And it finally dawned on me, and that's how I get my side of the story out there.
02:30 People will never understand how it's really been for me."
02:34 The last season has been split into two, with the first four episodes premiering on November
02:38 16th, 2023, and the remaining episodes joining them on December 14th.
02:44 Number 8.
02:45 Most of the season 5 principal players are back.
02:48 The Crown brilliantly captures Queen Elizabeth's reign in distinct eras across each two-season
02:53 arc.
02:54 Claire Foy ushered us into the 50s and early 60s, followed by Olivia Colman leading us
02:58 into the late 70s.
03:00 Now Imelda Staunton will take us into the mid-aughts.
03:02 "Windsor, Balmoral, Sandringham.
03:03 They all bear the stamp of my predecessors.
03:10 Only Britannia have I truly been able to make my own."
03:14 Other returning cast members include Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Leslie Manville as
03:18 Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, and Olivia
03:24 Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles.
03:26 We're also set to see some new faces, like the multiple actors playing Prince William
03:30 and Prince Harry.
03:32 Either way, this season, as per usual, promises a captivating portrayal of pivotal events.
03:37 "History was not made by those who did nothing."
03:40 Number 7.
03:41 Tony Blair is now Prime Minister.
03:44 In the season 5 finale, Labour leader Tony Blair shattered the Conservative Party's
03:48 18-year grip on Number 10, ushering in the new millennium.
03:51 "Nothing can take away the magnitude of the Labour victory.
03:52 They got 4 million more votes than the Conservatives."
03:53 "This is Tony Blair's hour.
03:54 Everyone knows it."
03:55 Having previously explored British-Irish tensions, the series will likely delve into Blair's
04:08 pivotal role in ending the troubles in Northern Ireland through the Good Friday Agreement.
04:12 Blair introduced the minimum wage and made significant global moves, sending troops to
04:17 Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks, and controversially joining the U.S. in the 2003 Iraq invasion.
04:23 "Why, I say frankly, that if we do act, we should do so with a clear conscience and a
04:28 strong heart."
04:29 He also led the nation during the tragic 2005 7/7 London attacks.
04:33 Despite his popularity, charisma, and achievements, his leadership is marred by divisive decisions,
04:39 which will undoubtedly be explored this season.
04:42 "And we will govern as New Labour.
04:43 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:44 And we will govern as New Labour.
04:45 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:46 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:47 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:48 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:49 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:50 And as we head into the millennium, we have the opportunity to change Britain.
04:56 Number 6.
04:57 Let's recap season 5's ending.
04:59 In addition to new leadership, season 5 showcased significant changes for the country and the
05:03 royal family.
05:04 "Now with the general election in its wake."
05:07 "What are the polls predicting?"
05:08 "A landslide for Mr Blair and the Labour Party."
05:11 "So I think we can safely say that wholesale change is afoot."
05:15 The Queen grapples with the challenge of bringing the monarchy into the modern age.
05:19 Meanwhile, Prince Philip struggles with his royal duties, aging, and a troubled marriage.
05:24 Prince Charles continues to fight for his voice within the institution, and navigates
05:28 a controversial relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles after his divorce from Diana.
05:33 "My parents can be a little hidebound in their ideas about, for example, how I should be
05:40 permitted to live."
05:42 Diana continues her advocacy work and also finds new love.
05:46 The season concludes with her preparing for a trip to Saint-Tropez with Dodi Al-Fayed.
05:50 It marks a bittersweet moment as she embraces a new chapter that the audience already knows
05:55 will tragically be cut short.
06:05 Number 5.
06:06 The season 6 timeline.
06:08 As we mentioned before, the final season unfolds in two acts.
06:12 The initial four episodes, starting in 1997, delve into the events around Diana's passing.
06:18 Then the next six episodes will carry us to the mid-aughts, offering an introspective
06:22 glimpse into the Queen's enduring reign.
06:25 "But anyone who can remember what things were like after those six long years of war appreciates
06:32 what immense changes have been achieved since then."
06:35 Anticipated events include Prince Charles and Camilla's wedding, Prince William and
06:39 Kate Middleton's early relationship, the Golden Jubilee, and the loss of Princess Margaret
06:44 and the Queen Mother.
06:45 "You wanted to let me imagine for one minute what life would be like without you.
06:51 You succeeded.
06:56 It would be unbearable."
06:58 This season will blend personal royal stories with global events from our recent past, capturing
07:02 moments from living memory.
07:04 With the media bridging the gap between us and the royals, this could be the most thought-provoking
07:09 and contentious season yet.
07:11 "It has been a pretty remarkable 50 years by any standards.
07:17 There have been ups and downs."
07:19 Number 4.
07:20 Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles' controversial nuptials.
07:24 Ahead of the final season, Netflix teased a pivotal event, Prince Charles and Camilla
07:29 Parker Bowles' 2005 wedding.
07:31 Due to the Church of England's stance on divorce, the Queen skipped the ceremony but attended
07:36 the reception.
07:37 Public opinion varied, with some supporting the union, while others objected to Camilla
07:42 becoming queen since she was the "other woman" during his marriage to Diana.
07:46 "In the narrative laws of fairy tales versus reality, a fairy tale always prevails.
07:53 She will always defeat me in the court of public opinion."
07:57 In his book Spare, Prince Harry revealed that he begged his father not to go through with
08:01 the wedding.
08:02 "We thought that it was going to cause more harm than good, and that if he was now with
08:10 his person, that surely that's enough."
08:13 However, during her 2022 Platinum Jubilee, the Queen made it known that she wanted Camilla
08:18 to be queen consort to King Charles.
08:21 Given this added context, we're intrigued to see how the show tackles this event.
08:25 "It had been intended that she would become princess consort.
08:29 Now the Queen has made clear her wish that Camilla should have the full status as the
08:34 wife of a king and be known as queen."
08:37 Number 3.
08:38 A New Royal Romance - The William and Kate Story
08:41 "We met at university at St. Andrews, and we were friends for over a year first.
08:49 And it just sort of blossomed from then on."
08:51 In this season's big royal romance, Prince William, played by Ed McVey, embarks on what
08:56 he hopes will be a typical uni experience at the University of St. Andrews.
09:01 His path will cross with an art history student, Kate Middleton, played by Meg Bellamy.
09:06 There is, of course, the famous fashion show story, where William is said to have been
09:10 taken with Kate after she modeled in a sheer lace dress.
09:13 Despite this, the larger story goes that they were friends for a while before a natural
09:17 romance developed.
09:18 "So it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other, but we did become very
09:24 close friends from quite early on."
09:27 In any case, we look forward to seeing how this love story unfolds on the screen.
09:31 Who doesn't love a modern royal romance?
09:34 "It's just really easy with being with each other, and it's really fun.
09:38 I'm obviously extremely funny, and she loves that.
09:40 So it's really good."
09:42 "You say so yourself."
09:44 Number 2.
09:45 It Will Cover Diana's Tragic Death
09:47 "Why don't you come to St. Tropez with us?"
09:51 "Please."
09:52 In Part 1, we'll witness Diana's final days, the horrible accident that claimed her and
09:56 Dodi Al-Fayed's lives, and its aftermath.
09:59 Unsurprisingly, the show's creators and everyone involved reportedly faced immense pressure
10:04 to handle this sensitive topic carefully.
10:06 "There's nothing like it in the world.
10:09 It really isn't.
10:11 It's completely and utterly... it's like an earthquake just run through the house and
10:15 through your life and everything."
10:17 While the actual car crash won't be shown, the idea of even recreating the accident scene
10:22 has been hotly debated.
10:24 There are also rumors that Diana could appear as a ghost in later episodes, which has also
10:28 raised a few eyebrows.
10:30 This dark moment from royal history carries immense weight, and many still have strong
10:34 emotions about it today.
10:36 "And I was thinking to myself, how is it that so many people that never met this woman,
10:40 my mother, can be crying and showing more emotion than I actually am feeling?"
10:47 Fans will be watching closely to see if the show handles this delicate topic respectfully.
11:09 Number 1.
11:10 A Tribute to The Queen
11:11 When news of The Queen's passing in September 2022 broke, the show halted filming its final
11:16 season to pay respects.
11:27 The creators have apparently planned a tribute to the central figure of the series.
11:31 Claire Foy and Olivia Colman are set to make appearances, likely through flashbacks.
11:36 Meanwhile, newcomer Viola Predijon will depict a young Princess Elizabeth.
11:40 Although we don't yet know exactly how this will play out, we imagine it will likely offer
11:45 viewers a chance to reflect on The Queen's milestones and enduring influences.
11:55 We're sure it will be a heartfelt homage honoring the late monarch's profound impact on history
12:00 by blending past and present to highlight Queen Elizabeth II's lasting legacy.
