Two megastars on a story about "the highest highs and the lowest lows" of love.
Transcript
00:00 Music is a mechanism by which you cannot hide.
00:05 You have to be relaxed and open in order to sing.
00:09 And so what better way to communicate that love
00:12 in all of its forms?
00:13 (dramatic music)
00:16 We both wanted to tell a love story
00:18 because if we do it right,
00:20 everybody will be able to relate to it.
00:22 If you're lucky enough, you find love
00:24 and you have the loss of love in your life.
00:26 And it evokes in you the highest highs and the lowest lows.
00:30 And you learn from it.
00:32 We learn from love in our lives.
00:35 So that was one of the things we really wanted to do.
00:37 And I think those are the two sort of main pillars
00:40 as to what drew us. - I think so too.
00:41 I think also each other.
00:43 - And then each other.
00:44 - Yeah.
00:45 - Look at me.
00:46 All you gotta do is trust me.
00:49 That's all you gotta do.
00:55 - I really just wanted to do what I know Bradley
01:00 wanted to set out to do,
01:01 which was to tell a true, authentic love story
01:06 that also shows the arc of two very interesting characters
01:11 and their love for one another
01:12 and the ups and downs of fame and the tragedy of it.
01:17 - It's all about the evolution of creating a piece of art.
01:25 And the music is a character in the movie.
01:28 There's not one lyric that's in any space
01:30 that doesn't reflect what the character,
01:32 one of our characters hopes to be or regrets doing
01:35 or is in that moment.
01:37 So we were always cognizant of, okay,
01:40 what song fits best here given where the story is.
01:43 - This movie is a story that I know,
01:46 that is a part of my real life.
01:48 And also, you know, him spending time with me
01:54 and asking me about my experiences
01:56 growing up in the music industry, you know,
01:58 and having that being a part of the film,
02:00 it's, you know, it's very special to me.
02:03 - I've always wanted to direct since I was a kid.
02:05 It was just, what's the story I had a point of view about?
02:08 And this just happened to be the one.
02:10 The person to fill those shoes, you know,
02:12 that's the tall order.
02:13 And then I watched her perform at a cancer benefit
02:17 that Sean Parker was throwing.
02:18 And I thought, God, if I could help capture that on screen,
02:23 you know, it might be okay.
02:25 - A long time ago, my vocal teacher, Don Lawrence,
02:27 told me, he said,
02:29 "All it takes is for one person to believe in you."
02:32 He said, you know,
02:33 "There could be a hundred people in the room
02:35 "and 99 don't believe, but all it takes is one."
02:38 And, you know, he believed in me
02:39 and I'm very grateful for that.
02:41 - And you, me.
02:42 (gentle music)
02:45 (gentle music)
02:48 (gentle music)
02:50 you
