00:00:02 - Welcome to the Palace at Auburn Hills in Michigan.
00:00:28 Hi everybody, I'm Dave Bontempo along with John Cerasino.
00:00:32 Glad you've joined us for this fight card.
00:00:34 They're billing it, the legend continues,
00:00:36 and in these parts, John, that means Tommy Hearns.
00:00:40 - Well, Tommy Hearns has provided all of us boxing fans
00:00:42 with thrills for decades, Dave.
00:00:44 But at age 47, he's launching a comeback bid
00:00:47 to try to recapture the 175 pound championship
00:00:50 at light heavyweight.
00:00:51 All the great victories he had and all the great fights,
00:00:54 Pepino Cuevas, Roberto Duran,
00:00:57 Sugar Ray Leonard fought twice.
00:00:59 The great three rounds against Marvelous Marvin Hagler
00:01:02 that ended in defeat.
00:01:03 But Tommy Hearns is a certified Hall of Fame fighter
00:01:07 who is not yet done in the ring.
00:01:09 - One of the most fearsome punchers of his time,
00:01:12 and maybe the most fearsome welterweight puncher ever.
00:01:15 Now tonight, it's a showcase fight for him.
00:01:17 - Yeah, he's fighting a guy, Shan Lambert,
00:01:19 who idolized Tommy Hearns as a young fighter
00:01:22 growing up in the Midwest.
00:01:23 In fact, one time in a 4-H club when he was 12 years old,
00:01:27 he drew a picture of Tommy Hearns.
00:01:29 He wanted to bring that picture to the fight tonight
00:01:31 to have Tommy sign it, and he forgot it.
00:01:34 He's not careful, he may run into that signature
00:01:36 right hand, Dave.
00:01:37 - Well, Tommy Hearns was the hit man,
00:01:40 but first he was the Motor City Cobra.
00:01:42 Now he's given that moniker to his son.
00:01:45 - Yes, Ronald Hearns, an up and coming middleweight prospect
00:01:49 looks a lot like his father, is built like his dad,
00:01:52 and has the power in his right hand like Tommy Hearns.
00:01:56 He is only 27 years old, Dave,
00:01:58 but he's only been fighting two years,
00:02:00 a very limited fight career.
00:02:02 He's gonna be a star in boxing tonight,
00:02:05 fighting in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
00:02:08 - All right, more than 15,000 people on hand.
00:02:11 Members of the Rolling Stones are here,
00:02:13 members of the Temptations are here, and you're here.
00:02:16 We can't wait to get started.
00:02:18 Let's get to the fight.
00:02:19 (upbeat music)
00:02:22 - Welcome back to the palace.
00:02:29 Our first fighter is Chris Edmonds from Cincinnati, Ohio.
00:02:32 He is 0-1 for this cruiserweight fight.
00:02:35 And his opponent is Mike Howell,
00:02:43 entering through the smoke.
00:02:45 (crowd cheering)
00:02:48 - Look, look, he's gonna run in, he's gonna run in.
00:02:56 Watch this.
00:02:57 He's running, right here.
00:02:58 - All right, cruiserweight throughout.
00:03:02 Crazy Mike "Dog" Howell and Chris Edmonds.
00:03:05 Getting set to start in the cruiserweight division.
00:03:10 We are ready for the introductions.
00:03:12 (bell dings)
00:03:15 Ladies and gentlemen, this bout is brought to you
00:03:17 by Harley Brown's First Round Productions
00:03:19 in association with Donna Frio Boxing,
00:03:22 the Greek Town Casino, and Platinum Health.
00:03:26 It is scheduled for four rounds
00:03:29 in the cruiserweight division,
00:03:31 and the three judges assigned scoring
00:03:33 on a 10-point must system will be
00:03:36 Eugene Acy, Ron Cunningham, and Herman McAlpin.
00:03:41 When the bell rings, our referee in charge of the action
00:03:44 will be Sam Williams.
00:03:47 Introducing to you first,
00:03:50 fighting to my right out of the blue corner,
00:03:52 he's wearing solid gray trunks and weighted at 183 pounds.
00:03:57 Coming to us from Cincinnati, Ohio,
00:04:00 he has a professional record of no wins and one loss.
00:04:04 Ladies and gentlemen,
00:04:05 please welcome Chris "The Holy Hammer" Edmonds.
00:04:10 (bell dings)
00:04:13 And his opponent fighting directly across from him tonight
00:04:16 out of the red corner,
00:04:18 he's wearing green trunks and weighted at 185 pounds.
00:04:22 Hailing from Detroit, Michigan,
00:04:25 tonight he's making his professional boxing debut.
00:04:29 Ladies and gentlemen, here is Mike "Dog" Ho.
00:04:33 Four rounds scheduled,
00:04:38 our referee in charge now to give the instructions.
00:04:42 - All right, gentlemen, let's have a good one.
00:04:43 Watch your head butts,
00:04:45 remember those, you're kicking the punches.
00:04:47 My command, take a full step back,
00:04:50 hands up, protect yourself at all times.
00:04:53 Please, with a knockdown,
00:04:53 I'll send you to the furthest neutral corner.
00:04:55 Remain there until I send for you.
00:04:57 Good luck, man.
00:04:58 - Well, your pro debut usually equals intensity
00:05:05 in the first round,
00:05:07 and Mike Howell gives every indication of that
00:05:11 as he ran into the ring.
00:05:13 - You don't call him crazy for nothing, Dave.
00:05:15 - Crazy and Dog in the same name.
00:05:17 Must have a double nickname.
00:05:19 Well, we'll see if he can earn it.
00:05:21 And Chris Edmund from Cincinnati,
00:05:23 a loser to Deleon Tinsley in the first round
00:05:29 in his pro debut back in October.
00:05:32 Let's see if he can improve
00:05:34 and Howell will come right at him.
00:05:36 A hook by Edmund.
00:05:39 - Oh, he's got it.
00:05:40 - He's got it.
00:05:41 - He's got it.
00:05:42 - He's got it.
00:05:43 - He's got it.
00:05:43 - He's got it.
00:05:44 - He's got it.
00:05:45 - He's got it.
00:05:46 - Howell trying to line up a right hand.
00:05:48 Edmund trying to dig in on him.
00:05:51 Left hook by Edmund, but his balance is off.
00:05:56 And Howell is on the floor and in deep trouble.
00:06:00 - Oh, he's really hurt, Dave.
00:06:02 - Yes.
00:06:03 Maybe too much adrenaline,
00:06:06 or maybe his chin can't take it.
00:06:08 Can he convince the referee that he should continue?
00:06:10 It's a nice slow count for him.
00:06:13 - He told him, "Oh yeah."
00:06:14 He was asked, "Can you continue?"
00:06:15 He said, "Oh yeah."
00:06:17 - He got the full benefit of the count.
00:06:18 So let's see what happens.
00:06:20 Chris Edmund who was stopped in one,
00:06:22 drops a big one and this is over.
00:06:24 - Wow.
00:06:27 That's a dangerous ending
00:06:30 because Howell struck his head on the canvas
00:06:34 and he came charging out of the corner,
00:06:36 gritting his teeth as if to say, "I'm ready for you."
00:06:39 And Edmund just blasted him.
00:06:41 - Edmund from the first round had kept his hands apart
00:06:46 and was able to tighten it up in the second round
00:06:52 and get even better leverage.
00:06:54 And this is a highlight reel.
00:06:55 Knockout.
00:06:58 - First round knockout.
00:06:59 - Get out of the ring.
00:07:00 - And I tell you what, Edmund was not giving himself
00:07:04 a target to hit early in the fight.
00:07:06 He was bending down low.
00:07:07 He was aggressively charging Howell.
00:07:09 And we gotta really watch this very closely.
00:07:11 We have the corner of Howell in.
00:07:13 We have the ring physician in.
00:07:15 And they're trying to see if he can be brought back
00:07:18 to earth, so to speak.
00:07:19 He's blinking his eyes.
00:07:21 - Well, the first indication was that the shoulders
00:07:26 had hit the canvas before the head did.
00:07:28 And that would shock absorb the blow.
00:07:31 And that's certainly what we hope for.
00:07:32 And if we get another look at that,
00:07:34 that will illustrate that.
00:07:36 Did not appear initially that his head hit first.
00:07:42 - No, it didn't. - The shoulders hit first.
00:07:44 - Right, right.
00:07:45 It hit second.
00:07:45 And it looks like he's with us.
00:07:49 I mean, it looks like, but the doctor's of course
00:07:51 gonna take every precaution because when you sustain
00:07:53 any kind of a concussion, no matter what sport
00:07:56 you're playing, there are certain symptoms to look for.
00:07:58 And now we're gonna go to a replay, David.
00:08:02 You see Edmund trying to throw the jab.
00:08:04 He's bending down low.
00:08:05 Misses with the right hand.
00:08:09 Sweeping left hook.
00:08:10 Caught him right on the button.
00:08:13 You see him falling back on his shoulders,
00:08:15 then his head, just as you indicated earlier.
00:08:17 And down he went.
00:08:19 He was unable to recover.
00:08:20 The fight was stopped.
00:08:21 We'll look at it again, David, from a different angle.
00:08:24 First round action.
00:08:26 Jab by Howell.
00:08:27 Edmund misses.
00:08:30 Howell has his left hand down.
00:08:33 Right hand down, left hook.
00:08:36 He was out before he hit the canvas.
00:08:38 Fortunately, rolled on that shoulder
00:08:41 and enabled him to buffer his head a little bit
00:08:45 when he struck the canvas.
00:08:47 - Well, you talk about a sport being a game,
00:08:50 matter of inches, and in that case,
00:08:52 the inches worked out much to the favor.
00:08:56 - And we have- - By Howell,
00:08:57 who's now up on the stool.
00:09:00 He was drilled.
00:09:03 Look at the leverage he gets on this shot.
00:09:15 - Well, Edmund was so ungainly in that first round,
00:09:19 so awkward, moving at such funny angles.
00:09:24 Howell really couldn't measure him.
00:09:26 You see him wanting to throw punches,
00:09:28 but really not getting anything off effectively
00:09:31 against Edmund.
00:09:33 And that was how the first 20 or 30 seconds
00:09:35 of the fight went.
00:09:36 And then suddenly, Edmund and Howell straightened up,
00:09:40 and Howell left himself unprotected
00:09:45 and got nailed with that left hook.
00:09:46 It was really a lot of grappling
00:09:49 in the first 20 seconds of the fight.
00:09:51 Wasn't a lot that happened,
00:09:53 but boy, when he landed that shot,
00:09:54 we're gonna see it coming up, it was a doozy.
00:09:57 - Yeah, big shot, and a referee smart
00:10:01 to stop it immediately so that no count had to be employed.
00:10:05 Take a look at it going through as Edmund,
00:10:12 able to get the big shot home,
00:10:14 and then this one was over.
00:10:16 - Swing him that way?
00:10:17 Okay.
00:10:18 - Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time,
00:10:21 50 seconds of round number one.
00:10:24 Our referee in charge, Sam Williams,
00:10:26 weighs off the count of 10.
00:10:28 Your winner by way of knockout,
00:10:31 Chris "The Holy Hammer" Edmunds.
00:10:34 - There's a look at Edmund.
00:10:43 - Well, that left hook just crumpled him,
00:10:48 and he was, his body was totally lifeless, so to speak.
00:10:53 So to speak, as he was falling to the canvas.
00:10:56 - It's a one-round knockout victory,
00:10:59 the wreck by the Edmund Fitzgerald.
00:11:02 He goes to one and one.
00:11:04 - Welcome back to the Palace at Auburn Hills.
00:11:13 Here comes the next fight,
00:11:17 James Morrow from Lafayette, Indiana,
00:11:19 with a record of eight and one, four knockouts.
00:11:23 (crowd chattering)
00:11:26 And here is highly touted Tyrone Brunson from Philadelphia
00:11:31 with a record of eight and oh with eight knockouts.
00:11:34 We spoke to Tyrone earlier about his knockout power.
00:11:39 - Back in the Americas, they just say,
00:11:41 "All I had was the right hand."
00:11:42 So now I done knocked him out with left hooks,
00:11:44 uppercuts, the left, the jab,
00:11:46 like it's the whole package deal.
00:11:48 Like, I'm the real deal.
00:11:50 It's gonna be hard for somebody to beat me.
00:11:52 Like, people going around saying,
00:11:53 "I only can last a round in the ring."
00:11:56 But I trained for eight to 10 rounds.
00:11:58 So for that person that think only can go one,
00:12:01 they got a surprise coming.
00:12:03 - Let's see if this is another one and done
00:12:06 for Tyrone Brunson.
00:12:07 - Ladies and gentlemen, from the Palace
00:12:16 here in Auburn Hills, Michigan,
00:12:18 this bout is being brought to you
00:12:20 by Harley Brown's First Round Productions
00:12:22 in association with Donna Frio Boxing,
00:12:25 the Greek Town Casino, and Platinum Health.
00:12:28 This bout is scheduled for eight rounds of boxing
00:12:33 and it is for the Vacant Mid-American
00:12:36 Middleweight Championship.
00:12:39 It is sanctioned by the State of Michigan
00:12:40 Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
00:12:43 And the three judges assigned,
00:12:45 scoring on a 10-point must system will be
00:12:48 Eugene Acy, Ron Cunningham, and Herman McAlpin.
00:12:53 When the bell rings, our referee in charge of the action,
00:12:57 the third man in the ring will be Sam Williams.
00:13:01 Introducing to you first,
00:13:04 fighting to my right out of the blue corner,
00:13:06 he's wearing black trunks with white trim
00:13:08 and weighed in at 158 pounds.
00:13:11 Coming to us from Lafayette, Indiana,
00:13:14 he brings a professional record of eight wins,
00:13:17 one loss with four wins coming by way of knockout.
00:13:21 Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome James Jabin Muro.
00:13:26 (audience cheering)
00:13:30 And ladies and gentlemen,
00:13:31 his opponent fighting directly across from him tonight,
00:13:34 out of the red corner,
00:13:35 he's wearing red trunks with white trim
00:13:38 and weighed in at 158 pounds.
00:13:41 Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
00:13:44 he is undefeated with eight wins, no losses.
00:13:48 And all of those eight wins coming by way of knockout.
00:13:52 Ladies and gentlemen,
00:13:53 introducing Tyrone Youngun Brunson.
00:13:58 (audience cheering)
00:14:01 Eight rounds scheduled,
00:14:05 our referee in charge now to give the instructions.
00:14:07 - Head buster, kidney punch, low blow.
00:14:09 Michael and the great take a full step back,
00:14:12 hands up, protect yourself at all times.
00:14:15 In case of a knockdown,
00:14:16 I'll send you to the furthest in the corner.
00:14:18 Remain there until I send for you.
00:14:20 Good luck, man.
00:14:21 - Well, the promotional company tonight
00:14:25 is called First Round Productions,
00:14:28 and it could be named after Youngun from Philadelphia,
00:14:31 Tyrone Brunson, eight and O, eight knockouts,
00:14:35 eight first round knockouts.
00:14:39 Maybe his nickname might be one and done.
00:14:41 See if that changes tonight.
00:14:44 James Morrow, eight and one himself in Lafayette, Indiana,
00:14:49 so two guys used to winning.
00:14:52 Brunson has been in the more advanced circuit.
00:14:58 So we'll see if it plays out.
00:15:02 Brunson circling.
00:15:07 - Come on, move the body.
00:15:09 - Come on.
00:15:10 - I can't do it like that.
00:15:11 - Quite patient.
00:15:12 Morrow moving to his left.
00:15:17 Right hand just misses by Brunson,
00:15:20 but you can see how he loaded it up.
00:15:22 Jab to the body.
00:15:25 Good technique by a young fighter.
00:15:29 Here comes the paddle, body shot.
00:15:31 - Can't hold it, hold it, hold it.
00:15:32 - Morrow.
00:15:33 - Can't hold it, hold it.
00:15:34 - Tremendous body shot by Brunson.
00:15:36 - Three.
00:15:37 - And Morrow may not be long for this fight.
00:15:40 - Five, how you doing?
00:15:42 Six.
00:15:43 - He's gonna make sure he takes the whole thing.
00:15:45 He got it.
00:15:45 - You don't want to, you don't want to.
00:15:46 - And going on a second time.
00:15:49 - If you don't want to do this,
00:15:51 you might as well do it.
00:15:52 - Brunson has a chance for another first round knockout.
00:15:54 - Box.
00:15:55 - He almost made Morrow stop fighting right there.
00:15:59 And you know he'll go right back to that body.
00:16:01 Big shot.
00:16:02 This will knock him out.
00:16:04 - And a second knockdown and that's it.
00:16:08 That is it.
00:16:09 Tyrone Brunson continues the one and done thing.
00:16:15 And that was an excellent body shot.
00:16:17 He ripped into James Morrow,
00:16:20 who had not been in with anybody of Brunson's caliber
00:16:25 and much too big a step up in class for him.
00:16:33 Tyrone Brunson able to go to the body.
00:16:38 And you like to see this explosiveness to the body.
00:16:41 The head shots are blocked.
00:16:44 Look how he tees off on these body shots.
00:16:46 Good leverage turned into it.
00:16:48 And when you see a fighter scoring body shot knockdowns,
00:16:51 that is something to keep a mark of for later in his career.
00:16:54 He continued to bubble Morrow.
00:16:59 And Morrow did something which was strange.
00:17:01 He got up, went back down and then got back up.
00:17:04 Took the full count.
00:17:06 And they just could not put up with this assault.
00:17:10 As this murderous body punching attack by Brunson
00:17:15 makes this a lights out festival.
00:17:19 Watch how he turns in right to the rib area there
00:17:22 with full power.
00:17:23 And when you haven't been hit like this to the body
00:17:27 and then to the ribs.
00:17:30 Then he goes upstairs with the left hook.
00:17:32 And Morrow knows he is way over his head.
00:17:37 And so he'll come back to fight another day.
00:17:40 Had he gotten up, I would have been bad for him.
00:17:45 So we're ready for the final numbers of Tom Tribe.
00:17:48 - Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
00:17:52 One minute, four seconds of the very first round.
00:17:56 Our referee in charge, Sam Williams,
00:17:58 calls a halt to the bout.
00:18:00 Your winner by technical knockout.
00:18:02 And now extending his record to nine wins, no losses.
00:18:07 And all nine wins coming by way of knockout.
00:18:10 Ladies and gentlemen, your winner by technical knockout,
00:18:13 Tyrone Youngun Brunson.
00:18:15 (crowd cheering)
00:18:19 - Give me a bow.
00:18:22 - Who does he have this week?
00:18:27 - He's a good guy.
00:18:29 - He's a good guy.
00:18:30 (crowd chattering)
00:18:33 - Tyrone Brunson serving notice
00:18:39 that he's an exciting fighter.
00:18:41 And when they go to the body like this,
00:18:44 keep your eye on this guy.
00:18:46 Showing him an advantage on the whole field.
00:18:49 Giving his approval to what was going on here.
00:18:52 Nice work by Brunson.
00:18:55 We'll be back with more.
00:18:57 Welcome back to the Palace at Auburn Hills.
00:19:07 I'm Dave Bontempo.
00:19:09 And up in the ring,
00:19:10 with a very exciting young fighter,
00:19:12 is John Cerasino.
00:19:13 - We're in here with the winner, Tyrone Brunson.
00:19:16 Who's got the power of Mike Tyson at 154.
00:19:19 That was some body shot.
00:19:20 Tell us about it, Tyrone.
00:19:22 - It just came, man.
00:19:23 I work hard in the gym.
00:19:24 I mean, it just came.
00:19:25 - It can't be that easy now.
00:19:28 Come on, what do you do to develop that kind of power?
00:19:29 Is it natural or is it technique?
00:19:31 - It's natural.
00:19:32 It's all natural.
00:19:33 I don't lift a weight.
00:19:34 - How much weight do you lift?
00:19:35 - It's natural.
00:19:37 - All right, now tell us,
00:19:38 do you want to be moved up in class of competition?
00:19:41 Do you want to be moved more quickly
00:19:42 or do you think you're being moved at the right pace?
00:19:44 - I think I've been moved at the right place.
00:19:47 That was a step-up fight tonight.
00:19:48 The guy was eight and one.
00:19:50 It was a step-up fight.
00:19:51 - Were you surprised it was that easy?
00:19:53 - All of them won't be easy.
00:19:55 - There's a confident guy, Dave.
00:19:57 Mr. Brunson from Philadelphia.
00:19:58 You know these guys are real fighters.
00:20:00 Back to you at ringside.
00:20:01 - That's right, the Philadelphia Fighting Mystique.
00:20:03 And until his next fight, at least,
00:20:06 Tyrone Brunson can remain one and done.
00:20:10 Nine fights, nine wins, nine first round knockouts.
00:20:15 We'll be back with more in a moment.
00:20:21 Please welcome the Rolling Stones.
00:20:24 - Welcome back to the palace at Auburn Hills.
00:20:32 As you can see, there is no shortage
00:20:34 of celebrities in the audience.
00:20:49 - Once again, ladies and gentlemen,
00:20:51 from the Rolling Stones, Mr. Ron Wood.
00:20:54 - Former heavyweight champion Evander Holofield
00:21:01 was also on hand.
00:21:02 Well, here comes the next fighter,
00:21:13 Leo Martinez from Columbus, Ohio,
00:21:15 with a record of eight and six.
00:21:17 (upbeat music)
00:21:19 And he'll be going up against Leonardo Tyner from Detroit.
00:21:28 He is nine and oh with six knockouts.
00:21:31 - Ladies and gentlemen, from the palace
00:21:40 here in Auburn Hills, Michigan,
00:21:43 this bout is being brought to you
00:21:44 by Harley Brown's First Round Productions.
00:21:47 In association with Donna Frio Boxing,
00:21:49 the Greek Town Casino and Platinum Health.
00:21:53 This bout is scheduled for eight rounds of boxing
00:21:57 and it is for the Vacant Mid-American
00:21:59 Junior Welterweight Championship.
00:22:03 It is sanctioned by the state of Michigan,
00:22:05 Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
00:22:08 The three judges assigned,
00:22:10 scoring on a 10 point must system will be
00:22:13 Eugene Acy, Ron Cunningham and Herman McAlpin.
00:22:17 When the bell rings, our referee in charge of the action
00:22:20 will be Dale Grable.
00:22:22 Introducing to you first,
00:22:26 fighting to my right out of the blue corner,
00:22:28 he's wearing black trunks and weighed in at 136 pounds.
00:22:33 Coming to us from Columbus, Ohio
00:22:35 by way of Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico.
00:22:40 He brings a professional record of eight wins,
00:22:42 six losses with four wins coming by way of knockout.
00:22:47 Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome
00:22:49 Leo "The Lion" Martinez.
00:22:52 And his opponent fighting directly across from him tonight
00:23:00 out of the red corner.
00:23:02 He's wearing white trunks with brown trim
00:23:04 and weighed in at 134 pounds.
00:23:07 Hailing from the West side of Detroit, Michigan.
00:23:12 He is undefeated with nine wins,
00:23:15 no losses with six wins coming by way of knockout.
00:23:20 Ladies and gentlemen, introducing
00:23:22 Leonardo "The Pace" Server,
00:23:25 Tyler Nairn.
00:23:26 Eight rounds scheduled,
00:23:34 the referee in charge now to give the instructions.
00:23:36 - Obey my commands.
00:23:38 Step back when I say break.
00:23:41 Gentlemen, protect yourself at all times.
00:23:43 Good luck, touch 'em up.
00:23:45 - Let's look at the matchup.
00:23:47 You see the weight, the height, the reach and the age.
00:23:52 But the big question will be the experience.
00:23:56 - Now Leo Martinez is eight and six,
00:23:58 but at one point he won three straight
00:24:01 split decision victories.
00:24:03 That's almost unheard of to put three in a row together
00:24:06 and win them all close.
00:24:07 Especially when your record is eight and six,
00:24:09 they usually go against you.
00:24:10 - Here you go, Leo Martinez.
00:24:12 In the black trunks,
00:24:15 little height and reach over Leonardo Tyner.
00:24:19 Tyner's nine and oh with six knockouts.
00:24:22 - Dave, this could be a very interesting styles matchup.
00:24:24 Tyner's more of a puncher.
00:24:26 He hasn't been in real tough yet,
00:24:28 but if somehow Martinez can get past the early rounds,
00:24:33 he could possibly frustrate Tyner.
00:24:36 We could have an interesting decision.
00:24:38 - Really could because there's a lot of gamesmanship
00:24:42 in Martinez.
00:24:44 He fires these wide shots here.
00:24:45 He's open up the middle.
00:24:47 And we'll see if Tyner gets to take advantage of that.
00:24:50 - Martinez is gonna be very active with those legs.
00:24:54 Tyner, a really good puncher.
00:24:59 Martinez tried to go to the body there.
00:25:08 You see Martinez circling to his right,
00:25:10 away from the right hand of Tyner.
00:25:12 - That's a good survival mode ethic.
00:25:15 As he starts to go inside,
00:25:19 then he'll wide these shots off.
00:25:21 And they're getting blocked by the elbows of Tyner.
00:25:25 - Martinez has come out very aggressively
00:25:28 in this first round.
00:25:29 Good uppercut by Tyner.
00:25:32 - And then back comes Martinez.
00:25:33 We talked about Martinez coming in with wide shots.
00:25:38 - He leaves himself open for that uppercut.
00:25:41 - And Tyner reminded him it was there.
00:25:44 It was a good uppercut by Tyner.
00:25:45 - Martinez with that annoying jab.
00:25:50 At time, Tyner tying the right hand over it.
00:25:53 - And they both had aspirations there.
00:25:58 Both went over the top with,
00:26:00 what would have been good power shots.
00:26:03 - But later on, when one of these fighters
00:26:05 is a little bit tired, those shots will get in.
00:26:08 First round action off to a pretty brisk pace.
00:26:16 Dave Fontempo and John Saraceno with you
00:26:19 from the Palace at Auburn Hills.
00:26:21 And glad you're with us.
00:26:22 - We're hoping to have Evander Holyfield
00:26:24 join us later for the big fight.
00:26:27 Thomas Hearns.
00:26:28 Another uppercut just missing here by Tyner.
00:26:32 - Well, Tyner's--
00:26:32 - But it's his signature weapon now.
00:26:34 - And Tyner's got quicker hands, Dave.
00:26:36 - And a good right hand by Tyner.
00:26:41 Martinez missing.
00:26:42 Big right hand by Tyner.
00:26:44 Martinez is down.
00:26:45 This could be it.
00:26:47 This is probably it.
00:26:48 Forget about it.
00:26:51 What a combination of power shots.
00:26:55 - And a good right hand by Tyner.
00:26:57 - What a combination by Tyner.
00:27:00 He just unloaded the uppercuts.
00:27:05 And then he countered.
00:27:08 - Well, they love it here in Motown.
00:27:10 And we said if Martinez could somehow
00:27:15 get through the early rounds,
00:27:17 Tyner was a dangerous puncher early on.
00:27:20 And Tyner, I think, just too fast, too powerful.
00:27:24 And Martinez kept dropping his gloves.
00:27:27 And Tyner just swarmed.
00:27:29 - That's the definition of danger.
00:27:31 There's the big left hook.
00:27:33 And the right hand coming in by Tyner.
00:27:36 What huge shots here.
00:27:39 There's not even a count.
00:27:42 Get the doctors in right away.
00:27:45 See, Martinez is aggressive.
00:27:47 He missed.
00:27:47 - Yeah, those big, moving right hands.
00:27:50 And Tyner made him pay for it.
00:27:52 Once he got in close, another right fist.
00:27:54 - The counter right hand flush on the chin.
00:27:57 You see Martinez get knocked back
00:27:59 in the fall with the left hook.
00:28:00 The right hand right on the button.
00:28:02 And at this point right here,
00:28:04 Martinez is basically out on his feet.
00:28:06 All he can do is fall backwards.
00:28:08 And he's still on the canvas.
00:28:12 As the doctors are attending to him.
00:28:17 Ringside physician inside the ring.
00:28:19 In his corner, bending over, Martinez.
00:28:23 And there you see the aerial shot.
00:28:25 Tyner just teeing off on a defenseless fighter.
00:28:29 Dangerous situation to be in.
00:28:31 And you see Martinez trying to run away,
00:28:35 almost reflexively.
00:28:36 I think he knew he was in big trouble there, David.
00:28:41 - The quintessential example of when you gamble.
00:28:47 You can either come up big or leave yourself open.
00:28:51 And your opponent will come up big.
00:28:52 But Martinez was game and teeing off.
00:28:57 But he went for broke.
00:28:59 He left nothing at home.
00:29:00 And Tyner capitalized.
00:29:05 You talk about making a guy miss
00:29:09 and then making him pay.
00:29:12 This is the fight that shows that.
00:29:20 - Martinez was quite game.
00:29:21 But opened himself up one time too many.
00:29:25 And Tyner in dramatic fashion,
00:29:31 runs his record at 10 and 0.
00:29:32 And we're happy to see that Martinez is up
00:29:36 and walking around under his own power.
00:29:38 Because he was drilled.
00:29:47 - Well, let's get the final numbers now from Tom Triver.
00:29:51 - Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
00:29:54 Two minutes, 42 seconds of the very first round.
00:29:58 Your winner by way home, knockout,
00:30:01 and still undefeated,
00:30:03 Ronaldo, the Pain Server, Tyner!
00:30:05 - Well, the Pain Server lived up to his name
00:30:12 in this contest.
00:30:14 And it says two minutes and 42 seconds.
00:30:17 But it really was done in about 12.
00:30:20 As he makes Martinez miss
00:30:24 and then does not let the opportunity get away.
00:30:27 Here he ducks under Martinez's shot
00:30:30 and puts himself in position
00:30:32 for the next time Martinez misses.
00:30:34 Underneath, boom!
00:30:36 And that changed this fight permanently.
00:30:40 Tyner proved that he's an excellent finisher.
00:30:47 And he's the best finisher in this fight.
00:30:50 A sizzling combination and a highlight reel ending
00:30:56 for Ronaldo Tyner.
00:30:58 You dream about landing the big shot.
00:31:02 And this is how he got it.
00:31:05 He set it up.
00:31:06 He made the shot come to him.
00:31:09 And then he took full advantage.
00:31:10 So as impressive as this offensive onslaught is,
00:31:15 it's the defense that set it up.
00:31:18 And the two go hand in hand.
00:31:21 Welcome back to the Palace at Auburn Hills.
00:31:36 I'm Dave Bontempo.
00:31:37 And up in the ring with a very exciting young fighter
00:31:40 is John Cerasino.
00:31:42 - Thanks Dave.
00:31:42 We're here with the winner, Ronaldo Tyner.
00:31:44 What an impressive performance before your hometown.
00:31:47 You must be really pumped up.
00:31:48 - Yes I am, baby.
00:31:49 Yes I am.
00:31:50 It's many more to come with first round, baby.
00:31:52 That's just a stepping stone.
00:31:53 We'll be here.
00:31:55 - Did you think the fight was gonna be that easy?
00:31:57 - Well, I know he's a tough guy, but you know,
00:32:00 so I'm tougher.
00:32:01 And then that's payback for my boy, Otavio.
00:32:03 Don't ever come to Detroit thinking you gonna get another one.
00:32:05 - A lot of times you have, when a guy's moving that much,
00:32:08 a fighter will try to break him down to his body.
00:32:10 But you just started throwing bombs after a while.
00:32:13 There was no pretense of trying to break him down.
00:32:16 - Well, me and my trainer, Henry Hill,
00:32:18 we works on all that all the time.
00:32:20 If we have to battle, we gotta battle.
00:32:21 We got a box, we got a box.
00:32:23 I owe everything to my trainer right here.
00:32:24 Henry Hill, baby.
00:32:26 Everything.
00:32:27 We still working.
00:32:28 We right back in the gym Monday.
00:32:29 So let's go with it.
00:32:30 - Now you noticed Evander Holyfield at ringside
00:32:32 and you had something to say to him.
00:32:34 - I said, I felt like him,
00:32:35 but I'll punch a little harder, Evander.
00:32:37 (laughing)
00:32:39 - Mr. Tyner out of Detroit.
00:32:41 Really tough fighter.
00:32:42 He's gonna have a lot to show in the years to come.
00:32:44 Back to you, Dave, at ringside.
00:32:46 - All right, John.
00:32:47 And he was talking about Leo Martinez's win
00:32:50 in this building against Octavio Lara.
00:32:54 Last year, a split decision win for Martinez,
00:32:59 but Tyner gets even for that
00:33:03 and then some for this explosive display.
00:33:07 Big victory for Leonardo Tyner.
00:33:09 And we'll have more when we come back.
00:33:12 - We've got the brain trust of tonight's card together.
00:33:17 Carlos Linas and Harley Brown.
00:33:19 Welcome to all of you people out there watching this.
00:33:22 Harley, you are the only African-American to own an HMO
00:33:25 and also one of three African-Americans to own a hospital.
00:33:29 The sport of boxing welcomes you.
00:33:31 What did you see about boxing
00:33:32 that made you want to get into it?
00:33:34 - Well, you know, boxing is a single individual sport
00:33:38 and some of the less fortunate children in America
00:33:41 who grew up in tough areas
00:33:44 became some of the greatest boxers of all time.
00:33:46 And I think that everyone deserves an opportunity
00:33:51 and a chance, just like I served in energy and in healthcare.
00:33:54 But I think some of the less fortunate people
00:33:56 don't really get looked upon.
00:33:58 Some of them get overlooked.
00:34:00 And boxing is a sport where they can exercise
00:34:03 some of their frustrations,
00:34:04 put it into a package with the right trainer
00:34:07 and management and promoter.
00:34:08 Develop skills and you can also develop wealth behind that
00:34:12 and become very disciplined.
00:34:14 One of my best friends, Evander Holyfield,
00:34:17 of course, Tommy Hearns, just made me have a great love,
00:34:21 as well as Carlos giving me a lot of information
00:34:24 that we have a true love for the sport of boxing.
00:34:27 And you know, Joe Lewis was from Detroit,
00:34:29 so was Sugar Ray Robinson.
00:34:31 And you got, of course, seven time world champion,
00:34:33 Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns.
00:34:36 Now we have his son, Ronald.
00:34:38 And I say it from root to fruit,
00:34:40 we will have, Detroit will have a real champion.
00:34:42 So that's why I'm here,
00:34:43 to make sure that the legend continues.
00:34:46 - All right, people are happy that you've gotten involved.
00:34:48 And Carlos, talking about the future of boxing in Detroit,
00:34:51 now what are the plans, what does this signify?
00:34:53 What are you working on?
00:34:55 - Well, there's such a great history here in Detroit.
00:34:57 And we just hope that one of the fighters from our stable
00:35:00 will be able to take it over and become the next champion.
00:35:04 We just, we wanna put together a good competitive bouts
00:35:07 and we wanna give these young kids an opportunity
00:35:09 to display their skills and hopefully take it to stardom
00:35:13 and to fame and fortune.
00:35:14 - Okay, so some major financial and match-making muscle
00:35:18 here in Detroit.
00:35:19 Let's continue with tonight's fight.
00:35:21 (upbeat music)
00:35:24 As you can see, the crowd is going crazy
00:35:33 in anticipation of the hometown heroes,
00:35:35 the main event and the co-main event
00:35:37 feature father and son combination
00:35:39 of Ronald and Thomas Hearn.
00:35:40 So here comes Kirk Douglas,
00:35:51 who hails from Cedar Hills, Missouri.
00:35:53 He goes by the nickname of Movie Star
00:35:55 and has a record of 10 and 10 with eight knockouts.
00:36:04 Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the ring,
00:36:07 Ronald "The Motor City Cobra" Hearns.
00:36:10 And here's Ronald "Motor City Cobra" Hearns
00:36:21 making his way through the crowd.
00:36:23 And of course he hails from Detroit.
00:36:25 We had the chance to speak to Ronald
00:36:27 about what his dad, Thomas Hearns,
00:36:29 has taught him about boxing.
00:36:31 - Basically he told me that jab is my key
00:36:33 and everything works off the jab.
00:36:34 So that's why I tried to establish,
00:36:36 he had me jabbing for hours when I first started.
00:36:38 So I think I have it down pat by now.
00:36:41 - Let's see if this rubs off throughout his career.
00:36:45 Let's take a look at the matchup.
00:36:48 If you see the height, the weight, the reach and the age,
00:36:53 what about the strength of these fighters?
00:36:55 That's what we can't find out until the fight starts.
00:36:59 (crowd cheering)
00:37:02 It's a big night for a Detroit family.
00:37:12 And the first half of the Hearns family exacto
00:37:16 will be making an appearance next.
00:37:19 That is Ronald Hearns in the middleweight division.
00:37:23 And to get us started, here's Tom Tribe.
00:37:25 - Ladies and gentlemen, from the Palace
00:37:27 here in Auburn Hills, Michigan,
00:37:30 it is now time for our co-main event.
00:37:32 And it is brought to you by Harley Brown's
00:37:35 first round productions in association
00:37:37 with Donna Frio Boxing,
00:37:39 the Greek Town Casino and Platinum Health.
00:37:43 It is scheduled for six rounds in the middleweight division
00:37:47 and the three judges assigned,
00:37:49 scoring on a 10 point must system will be
00:37:52 Eugene Acy, Ron Cunningham and Herman McAlpin.
00:37:57 When the bell rings, the third man in the ring,
00:37:59 our referee in charge will be Mr. Sam Williams.
00:38:03 Introducing to you first,
00:38:06 fighting to my right out of the blue corner,
00:38:09 he's wearing black trunks with red trim
00:38:11 and weighed in at exactly 168 pounds.
00:38:15 Coming to us from Cedar Hill, Missouri,
00:38:18 he has a professional record of 10 wins,
00:38:21 10 losses with eight of those 10 wins
00:38:24 coming by way of knockout.
00:38:26 Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome
00:38:29 Kirk, the movie star, Douglas.
00:38:31 And ladies and gentlemen,
00:38:40 his opponent fighting directly across from him tonight
00:38:43 out of the red corner.
00:38:44 He's wearing gold trunks with blue trim
00:38:47 and weighed in at 161 pounds.
00:38:50 Hailing from Detroit, Michigan,
00:38:53 he is undefeated with seven wins,
00:38:56 no losses with five of those seven wins
00:38:59 coming by way of knockout.
00:39:01 Ladies and gentlemen, introducing
00:39:03 Ronald, the Motor City Cobra,
00:39:07 Hurts.
00:39:08 Six rounds scheduled.
00:39:19 (indistinct)
00:39:22 - Well, if you believe in momentum,
00:39:38 Hurts has three straight one round knockout
00:39:42 and Douglas has three straight losses.
00:39:44 Hurts is fighting Kirk Douglas
00:39:49 and before that he fought Don Adams.
00:39:51 - Well, he better get smart really quick.
00:39:55 - Going after that Hollywood movie set.
00:39:57 - Looking at Ronald Hurts' physique.
00:40:01 From the back, he's a spinning image
00:40:04 of a young Tommy Hurts, the way he's built.
00:40:06 And from the front,
00:40:07 there's a very distinct likeness to his daddy.
00:40:10 - Even in the idiosyncrasy.
00:40:12 - Yeah, how they move,
00:40:14 how they kind of carry themselves in the ring,
00:40:16 the aura they bring with them,
00:40:17 how he came into the ring and walked around the scowl.
00:40:21 - And he's still in the showcase element of his career.
00:40:27 Ronald Hurts has not fought the type of competition
00:40:31 people will look for him to fight if he wants to move up.
00:40:33 But he is here in front of more than 15,000 people.
00:40:39 A father-son card.
00:40:46 - Ronald Hurts got a very late start in boxing, Dave.
00:40:50 He didn't turn pro until I think he was about 26.
00:40:53 It's barely been two years.
00:40:54 And one of the reasons he told me was
00:40:57 that he had a bad temper as a young guy
00:41:01 and his father didn't want him in the ring
00:41:03 until he could control himself better.
00:41:04 So he played other sports.
00:41:06 - Now he takes up this and jab.
00:41:11 There's the right hand by Hurts.
00:41:14 Left hook, right body shot.
00:41:16 And the body shot was a good one on Douglas.
00:41:19 Sharp jab by Hurts.
00:41:23 Like so many other sports,
00:41:28 you see when a boxer oozes with confidence
00:41:32 as Hurts is doing right now,
00:41:33 all of the fundamentals are in place
00:41:37 when he believes he can walk through his opponent.
00:41:39 - His stance is even like his father's.
00:41:42 His legs are spread very wide
00:41:44 and he kind of carries the left very similar.
00:41:48 Not quite as low as Tommy did, particularly towards the end,
00:41:52 but you can see the distinct similarities.
00:41:55 - Tommy Hurts, of course, senior,
00:41:59 with that bazooka-like right hand.
00:42:01 Ronald to the body with it.
00:42:05 Of course, it's nice to carve your own niche as well,
00:42:11 but he's got so much to be compared to
00:42:14 in what his father did,
00:42:15 and in fact, you learn from that.
00:42:17 That's some guy you learn how to throw a right hand from.
00:42:23 Right hand by Ronald Hurts.
00:42:33 Body shot.
00:42:34 Douglas has done absolutely nothing in this round.
00:42:38 - Well, I think he's trying to get his feet wet.
00:42:42 And, you know, let's face it,
00:42:45 if you look at the physical styles of both fighters,
00:42:48 their bodies,
00:42:50 you can see the tremendous advantages that Hurts has.
00:42:54 He's got leverage, he's got the whole package
00:42:59 in terms of what he's fighting tonight.
00:43:01 - And he's not softening out in the middle.
00:43:04 - He's fighting a shorter guy
00:43:06 who doesn't look like he's a terrific,
00:43:08 he's not as quick as Hurts.
00:43:12 I'm sure he doesn't punch like Hurts.
00:43:14 - I think so.
00:43:14 And with a name like Hurts,
00:43:16 you can't give the fans the sweet science.
00:43:19 Some boos coming up as Hurts fights
00:43:22 a practically perfect first round.
00:43:25 - Straight right hand.
00:43:28 - And there's a replay of the first round.
00:43:30 Hurts missing with the right hand,
00:43:32 trying to set him up with that long-rangey jab.
00:43:35 Not allowed to do that if he's grabbing his head there,
00:43:37 of course, let him get away with it if he can.
00:43:39 - So we start second round action.
00:43:43 Ronald Hearns in the yellow and blue trunks.
00:43:46 His record is seven to no with five knockouts.
00:43:48 He's from Detroit.
00:43:50 Kirk Douglas, Cedar Hill, Missouri,
00:43:53 10 and 10 with eight knockouts.
00:43:56 Hearns with three consecutive one round knockouts
00:43:59 entering this contest.
00:44:00 And Douglas with three straight losses.
00:44:03 (crowd cheering)
00:44:05 - Well, maybe Hearns will get some action,
00:44:08 fire some good right hands.
00:44:10 Douglas ties him up.
00:44:11 - Now I like the way Hearns came out of this round.
00:44:13 I think Billy Hurts, his uncle, told him,
00:44:15 "Get that jab, double and triple it,
00:44:17 "and then drop the right hand in."
00:44:19 And Tom, Tommy, Ronald's coming out very aggressive
00:44:23 in this second round.
00:44:25 The Hearns, they don't like to hear boos,
00:44:27 you know, they don't like to hear them in Detroit,
00:44:29 in their home city.
00:44:30 So I suspect Ronald Hearns
00:44:32 is gonna turn up the heat here on Kirk Douglas.
00:44:35 - We'll have to set the table for both of them.
00:44:37 And whatever happens on Douglas' end,
00:44:40 that's what Hearns will set up.
00:44:45 - Douglas, I mean, let's face it,
00:44:48 Douglas is a shorter fighter.
00:44:50 He's having a hard time getting inside
00:44:52 that left jab of Hearns.
00:44:53 I mean, how do you do that without getting hit?
00:44:56 He's using some upper body movement,
00:44:58 side to side with his head.
00:45:00 - And he wants to bob and weave to get close,
00:45:02 but he's not fast enough.
00:45:03 And now he's got his first trip to the canvas.
00:45:06 - Oh! - On what the net looks like.
00:45:09 - There's his best shot. - Five.
00:45:10 - He's shook. - He's gonna hit up
00:45:12 on a temple. - Six.
00:45:13 - And he'll lose your balance. - Seven.
00:45:14 - He's gonna be very quick with it.
00:45:15 - Eight. - He's gonna get
00:45:16 down to the flag.
00:45:17 - Yeah, he attacked and look what happened.
00:45:19 - Pop. - Yeah, really,
00:45:21 if you think about it, nothing good can happen
00:45:23 if he presses Hearns too much.
00:45:25 - And here's Hearns trying to follow up.
00:45:27 He's got an opportunity to throw a jab.
00:45:29 - Hearns has an opportunity to finish it here.
00:45:31 Hearns winds up with the right hand.
00:45:33 Douglas holding on for dear life.
00:45:36 - He should be going with a body, Dave,
00:45:37 'cause the fighter's protecting his head
00:45:39 and exposing his midsection.
00:45:42 - Hearns wanted to do it like his father,
00:45:43 and he did.
00:45:44 Big right hand.
00:45:46 Hardball timing.
00:45:47 Vintage Hearns right hand. - Four.
00:45:50 Five. - It might spell
00:45:51 the end of this one. - Six.
00:45:54 - It is. - Tell you what,
00:45:56 while Hearns looked down at ringside at us
00:45:58 and abandoned Holyfield,
00:45:59 almost simply say, "Well, what'd you think of that,
00:46:02 "Mr. Holyfield?"
00:46:03 Very impressive performance.
00:46:06 Let's face it, let's be honest,
00:46:08 the guy in front of Ronald Hearns,
00:46:10 not a lot of opposition.
00:46:11 We're hearing some booing, but you know what?
00:46:13 You can't blame Ronald Hearns.
00:46:15 He came in and finished the job in the second round.
00:46:18 - He scored two knockdowns, a short punch,
00:46:21 and then the classic right hand.
00:46:23 And what will happen is he will be cajoled
00:46:26 into fighting people of his ability.
00:46:29 - All right, here's a replay from that second round.
00:46:33 Short left hook.
00:46:35 It was almost a Joe Lewis eight inches, really sharp.
00:46:38 And it was a delayed effective out of Andrew Holyfield,
00:46:41 toward ringside, got hit up inside of Temple, and he did.
00:46:44 So we get another angle from it here, Dave.
00:46:47 - He comes in, and how many times did we see Tommy Hearns
00:46:52 with classic right hands and fights?
00:46:55 - That was a patented Hearns right hand
00:46:59 from the Hearns family yearbook.
00:47:02 - The winner Roberto Duran,
00:47:03 I think he was gone in the second round too, by daddy.
00:47:06 - James Shuler, first round with a big Hearns right hand,
00:47:09 and he just fearsome puncher and drubs off here.
00:47:13 It's a family showcase night.
00:47:16 They didn't put the guys in front of him
00:47:17 who were gonna challenge him the most, but that will change.
00:47:21 - Well, I'm really impressed because Ronald Hearns
00:47:23 does not have that much experience boxing.
00:47:25 He's got very few amateur fights.
00:47:27 He's only been fighting professionally,
00:47:29 I think for less than two years.
00:47:31 There's that right hand, and he digs with it,
00:47:35 just like his father does.
00:47:37 - Well, you know, able to throw that punch down
00:47:40 and land with the full arc
00:47:42 and get the total power of the shot.
00:47:46 So, second round, knockout victory for Hearns,
00:47:50 and let's get to particulars.
00:47:52 (bell dings)
00:47:54 - Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
00:47:56 Two minutes, 12 seconds of the second round.
00:47:59 Your winner by technical knockout, still undefeated,
00:48:03 Ronald "The Motor City Cobra" Hearns.
00:48:06 - Well, tonight, he looked like Hitman Jr.
00:48:19 Good power from Ronald Hearns, so he moves his mark
00:48:24 up to eight and O with six knockout,
00:48:29 and we'll speak with him when we come back.
00:48:31 We're back.
00:48:35 Ronald Hearns with a quick knockout victory,
00:48:39 and he's with John Cerasino.
00:48:41 - All right, Dave, thank you.
00:48:42 I'm up here in the ring with Ronald Hearns,
00:48:45 an impressive performance in your hometown, Ronald.
00:48:48 Tell us about it.
00:48:49 - Well, you know, I was anxious to get out here
00:48:51 and do my thing.
00:48:52 Had a little trouble back there getting warmed up
00:48:53 because they was working each other corner,
00:48:55 so they had to take time to wrap my hands,
00:48:56 so I wasn't warm at first.
00:48:58 So I had to take my time, come out here, establish the jab,
00:49:01 followed up with the right hand, I got him in the second round.
00:49:03 - In the second round, it looked like you came out
00:49:05 and really started doubling and tripling up on the jab
00:49:07 and throwing it with authority,
00:49:09 and then trying to set that right hand up.
00:49:11 - Like I said, I was a little tight coming out here.
00:49:13 I wasn't warm pretty well, so once I got my body warm,
00:49:16 I was able to put my punches together
00:49:18 and they started to flow.
00:49:19 - And what's it like for you to be fighting in Detroit?
00:49:23 Your father, obviously a huge boxing star for many years.
00:49:26 A lot of people don't know a lot about you
00:49:28 and why you started professionally so late.
00:49:30 Tell us about it.
00:49:32 - Well, you know, I started late
00:49:33 because I wanted to finish school first,
00:49:35 plus my father didn't want me to fight at that time
00:49:37 because I had a little temple problem.
00:49:38 But it's hard, you know, a father behind his footsteps,
00:49:40 but I think I'm able to accomplish
00:49:42 what I can do inside the ring by showing off my talents
00:49:44 and not trying to live off by his talents.
00:49:46 - What kind of a thrill is it, though,
00:49:48 to share the same card with your father
00:49:50 here in your hometown tonight?
00:49:51 - Oh, it's a heck of an experience, you know,
00:49:53 fight my hand and try to come out
00:49:55 and get the crowd pumped up for him.
00:49:56 So, you know, I'm very excited to be a part of this event.
00:49:59 - And does anybody never not mistake you
00:50:02 for being Tommy Hearns' son?
00:50:04 I mean, you not only resemble him,
00:50:06 your physique in the ring,
00:50:07 the way you carry yourself in the ring,
00:50:09 the scowl you had in the ring when you came into the ring.
00:50:12 Does anybody ever mistake you for anybody
00:50:14 other than Tommy Hearns' son?
00:50:16 - Oh, not at all.
00:50:17 You know, I get that all the time,
00:50:18 but, you know, that comes with the territory,
00:50:20 so I just gotta live up to the hype.
00:50:22 - Okay, it's gonna be more than hype for Ronald Hearns.
00:50:25 Terrific performance here.
00:50:26 We're gonna send it back to ringside in Dave Bontempo.
00:50:29 - All right, John, and you know,
00:50:30 he calls himself setting up the crowd for Tommy Hearns.
00:50:34 Well, this is quite a warmup back then
00:50:37 as Ronald Hearns with that short left hand
00:50:40 as Douglas was coming in, stopped him in his tracks.
00:50:44 Perfect momentum.
00:50:45 It's always been a Hearns family trademark
00:50:47 to get you going one direction
00:50:48 and just force you to walk into the shot.
00:50:52 And the second round, now watch this.
00:50:55 He's trying to set the right hand up.
00:50:57 The angle, the degree of difficulty.
00:51:01 You wanna get the punch to go down and land.
00:51:04 You have to fake, you have to get your guy into position,
00:51:08 show him something else,
00:51:10 and then come in with the big stuff.
00:51:14 And then he scores the knockout victory.
00:51:17 - Modest City Super Bowl weekend, Tommy and Ronald Hearns.
00:51:22 - Welcome back, Dave Bontempo along with John Cerasino.
00:51:30 We get ready for our main event.
00:51:32 Well, one Hearns has already done his thing,
00:51:34 and now it's time for Tommy Hearns to follow up.
00:51:37 - Yeah, Tommy Hearns, a lot of people thought
00:51:39 he should not be fighting anymore,
00:51:41 but Tommy told me in the dressing room before the game,
00:51:43 "John, they chased me out of boxing too early.
00:51:46 I wasn't ready to retire."
00:51:47 In case you're wondering, Emmanuel Stewart,
00:51:49 his longtime trainer and mentor,
00:51:51 is not with Tommy tonight.
00:51:52 Emmanuel Stewart did not want Tommy Hearns to fight again.
00:51:55 Tommy is determined to try to win a title again.
00:51:59 A lot of times fighters come back for monetary reasons.
00:52:02 Tommy says this comeback is about the heart.
00:52:05 - Well, you can see the argument on both sides,
00:52:07 and now we're going to see the fight.
00:52:10 This is the main event.
00:52:11 The legend continues, Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns
00:52:13 going against Shannon Landberg.
00:52:16 Landberg has a record of 58 and 10 with 23 knockouts.
00:52:20 We spoke to Shannon about why he admires Tommy Hearns.
00:52:23 - Because he was a stand-up fighter, and he fought hard.
00:52:26 He was tall, and I was always tall when I was little.
00:52:29 I mean, when I started fighting at 14 years old,
00:52:32 I was a tall person.
00:52:33 I mean, 100 pounds, 5'7",
00:52:36 that's pretty tall for a 100-pound fighter.
00:52:38 And I always liked the way he looked.
00:52:40 He carried himself very well.
00:52:42 I respect him.
00:52:44 I'm honored to fight that man.
00:52:47 But I will fight.
00:52:48 When I come to fight, I do come to fight.
00:52:51 - We also spoke to Tommy about his ultimate goal.
00:52:54 - My ultimate goal is for this comeback
00:52:57 is to win my A4L title.
00:52:59 Win the A4L title, and then I can make the decision then
00:53:02 to walk away and be happy and not return again, John.
00:53:06 Listen, you decide.
00:53:07 You want to fight.
00:53:07 - And now, ladies and gentlemen,
00:53:09 please welcome to the ring
00:53:11 the former seven-time champion of the world,
00:53:15 Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns!
00:53:20 (audience cheering)
00:53:23 (heavy metal music)
00:53:26 (audience cheering)
00:53:29 (heavy metal music)
00:53:32 (audience cheering)
00:53:35 (heavy metal music)
00:53:38 (audience cheering)
00:53:41 (heavy metal music)
00:53:44 (audience cheering)
00:53:47 (heavy metal music)
00:53:50 (audience cheering)
00:53:53 (heavy metal music)
00:53:56 (audience cheering)
00:53:59 (heavy metal music)
00:54:02 (audience cheering)
00:54:05 (audience cheering)
00:54:08 (audience cheering)
00:54:10 - All right, we're ready for our main event.
00:54:12 Let's go upstairs and get the introduction.

00:55:07 And now, ladies and gentlemen,
00:55:11 from the Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan,
00:55:14 it's time for our main event,
00:55:17 10 rounds of boxing in the light heavyweight division.
00:55:22 Introducing to you first,
00:55:26 fighting to my right out of the blue corner,
00:55:28 he's wearing blue trunks and weighed in at 177 pounds.
00:55:32 Coming to us from West Lafayette, Indiana,
00:55:35 he brings a professional record of 58 wins,
00:55:38 10 losses, with 23 wins coming by wake of knockout.
00:55:43 Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome
00:55:45 Shannon "The Sandman" Lindberg.
00:55:50 And his opponent fighting directly across from him tonight
00:55:57 out of the red corner, he's wearing white trunks
00:56:00 and weighed in at 176 pounds.
00:56:03 Hailing from Detroit, Michigan,
00:56:05 his record consists of 60 wins,
00:56:08 five losses, one draw,
00:56:11 with 47 wins coming by wake of knockout.
00:56:15 Ladies and gentlemen, introducing
00:56:17 the former seven-time champion of the world,
00:56:21 Tommy "The Hitman" Hurts.
00:56:37 - I've said a couple of questions earlier.
00:56:40 Listen to my commands, obey my commands.
00:56:43 Good luck to both of you.
00:56:45 - Let's take a look at the matchup.
00:56:46 As you see the height, the weight, the reach, and the age.
00:56:50 What about the chin of these fighters?
00:56:53 That's what we can't find out until the fight starts.
00:56:56 - Tommy Hurts, closest back in the '70s.
00:57:03 July 30th of 2005, a ninth-round technical knockout win
00:57:08 over John Long.
00:57:12 Big crowd assembled here,
00:57:17 the combination of the Hitman, Super Bowl weekend,
00:57:21 a festive air.
00:57:26 [crowd shouting]
00:57:31 [bell dings]
00:57:34 - All right, so here we go.
00:57:37 - Well, David, if you'd have told me
00:57:38 I'd be calling a Tommy Hurts fight in the year 2006,
00:57:42 10 years ago, I would have called you a stone-cold liar.
00:57:45 - How about that?
00:57:46 It seems like it was only 27 years ago
00:57:48 that he fought Pepino Cuevas.
00:57:50 - [laughs]
00:57:51 - A lifetime. - This is incredible.
00:57:53 - Yeah. - Now, people will get behind us
00:57:57 to see what he can do.
00:58:00 - Tommy's full of it.
00:58:02 - We'll see what happens the first time Hurts hits him.
00:58:08 - Well, Tommy-- - Bloomberg will come in.
00:58:11 - Tommy's got a lot of experience,
00:58:13 but the one-- - Watch that head.
00:58:14 - And he was a sensational fighter in his heyday,
00:58:17 which lasted quite a while.
00:58:19 But the one thing you can't get back is reflexes.
00:58:22 And the first thing to watch for
00:58:23 is to see if Tommy Hurts can move his head
00:58:25 when he needs to
00:58:27 and how strong his foundation, his legs,
00:58:29 which were never his strong part, are underneath him.
00:58:33 And if I'm Landberg, I gotta try to test the body
00:58:37 on an older--a guy 47 years old.
00:58:39 I'm not shooting for his head.
00:58:41 I'm gonna hit him on his hips, his legs, his cup.
00:58:45 Now, as if Landberg doesn't have too much respect.
00:58:47 Remember, he idolized Tommy Hurts,
00:58:49 the young fighter, Landberg,
00:58:50 as a young boy growing up in Indiana.
00:58:52 - He might still be looking for that picture.
00:58:55 Talked about that he wanted Tommy to sign it for him,
00:58:57 but you know what?
00:58:58 Hey, if he can land the shot,
00:59:00 maybe all that adulation will leave.
00:59:03 Hurts with the low left hand
00:59:05 as was customary throughout his career.
00:59:08 Right hand by Hurts.
00:59:20 - So you can even tell Tommy--
00:59:22 - Don't spin him around, Tommy.
00:59:24 - If you really look at his legs,
00:59:26 he's a little bit unsteady all the time,
00:59:28 and he has to make a quick move with them.
00:59:31 And older fighters, of course,
00:59:33 will use the ropes later in their career.
00:59:36 Now, Tommy isn't really fighting off the ropes right now.
00:59:38 He's in the center of the ring.
00:59:41 - Trying to get his opponent to move back,
00:59:44 set up some kind of a right hand,
00:59:46 and now Landberg to the pole vault.
00:59:48 [crowd shouting]
00:59:50 He takes a right hand for it.
00:59:52 - I don't think I'd be wanting to show up Tommy Hurts
00:59:54 in Detroit.
00:59:56 - Nice two shots by Hurts,
00:59:58 and now Landberg comes on.
01:00:01 Hurts sets up.
01:00:04 Right hand by Hurts.
01:00:06 [crowd shouting]
01:00:08 Here comes Landberg,
01:00:10 and he's trying to tee off on Tommy Hurts.
01:00:12 Good left hook by Landberg.
01:00:14 - Stop, stop, stop. - That was gonna be game right now.
01:00:17 - He did hit Tommy a little, but you know what?
01:00:19 It's his thing. - Both of you, get up.
01:00:21 - I'll tell you what, if I'm Landberg,
01:00:23 I'm doing everything I can.
01:00:25 I'm not saying I'm intentionally breaking the rules,
01:00:27 but I'm gonna go really close to south of the border,
01:00:29 'cause that's the quickest way.
01:00:31 You see Tommy trying to get a little activity
01:00:33 back in his legs with a little hop there.
01:00:35 [bell dings]
01:00:36 - Jab, uppercut, jab, double jab.
01:00:40 Jab, uppercut, double jab. Double jab, uppercut, jab.
01:00:42 Get to the left hand,
01:00:44 and you're gonna bump his thigh a little bit like you did.
01:00:46 - No more play.
01:00:48 Take a deep--take a deep breath.
01:00:51 Hold it. Hold it.
01:00:53 - He's early, and then Landberg will come back later.
01:00:55 - Yes, sir.
01:00:57 - Toward the end of the round,
01:00:59 this is when Landberg gets himself in the fight.
01:01:01 [whistle blows]
01:01:02 - Let's go, Tommy!
01:01:06 - Well, Tommy got nailed a couple times,
01:01:09 particularly when he got pinned in that corner.
01:01:11 [bell dings]
01:01:12 - And so here we go, round two.
01:01:14 We've got Tommy Hearns, Shannon Landberg,
01:01:18 and Dave Fontenpo along with John Sarasuno.
01:01:21 We've been talking about the fact that a lot of people here,
01:01:24 maybe just to see the Hearns name,
01:01:26 out of respect for everything he's done through the years.
01:01:28 Let's get an opinion on that.
01:01:29 We spoke earlier with Evander Holofield,
01:01:31 and he joins us at ringside now.
01:01:33 Evander, what's your take on what you're seeing so far?
01:01:37 - Well, you know, Tommy got--
01:01:39 got a little bit more snap in his shots,
01:01:41 and he got to put his hands up.
01:01:43 He's got a little bit more snap in his shots,
01:01:45 and he's taking them clean shots.
01:01:48 - And I tell you what, if you look at Landberg,
01:01:51 you sense that he's come here to win.
01:01:53 He's not come here to idolize Tommy Hearns,
01:01:55 even though he might have idolized him
01:01:57 as a young boy in Indiana.
01:01:58 He's got a look on his face where
01:02:00 he's trying to win this fight.
01:02:03 - It changed at the end of round one
01:02:07 when he went to the corner, fired four shots.
01:02:10 And that's a reaction to Tommy Hearns' body
01:02:14 from what he threw at him.
01:02:17 Others may have a different scenario for Landberg now.
01:02:21 Fires a left hook.
01:02:25 Hearns comes back for the ropes.
01:02:29 Landberg teeing off.
01:02:32 - Close that hand. Close that hand.
01:02:37 - What's Landberg trying to do here?
01:02:40 - I don't know what he's trying to do.
01:02:42 He needs to get off the ropes.
01:02:43 He's taking too many head shots,
01:02:45 and fighting a fight he just really not comfortable fighting.
01:02:48 - Watch those hands.
01:02:49 - Is he trying to save too much here?
01:02:51 Conserve something?
01:02:53 - I don't know. I don't think so.
01:02:55 I think he's hitting the guy with his best shots,
01:02:58 and the guy is taking them.
01:03:00 And so you never have to fight that way,
01:03:02 because when he got clean shots,
01:03:04 he was able to get a little bit of a snap.
01:03:07 - Yeah, well, the snap is not there,
01:03:09 and Evander knows this way better than I do.
01:03:12 A lot of that punching power comes from your legs
01:03:15 and the torque and the leverage you get.
01:03:17 When you don't have your legs underneath you,
01:03:19 you're kind of arm-punching almost,
01:03:21 so this is a bit of an uphill battle here
01:03:23 for Hearns in the second round.
01:03:26 - Grabbed by Hearns, gets through.
01:03:31 - Hearns has four shots and then underneath.
01:03:34 - Now, Tommy has fought some of the best fighters in the world
01:03:39 over many, many years, much earlier in his career.
01:03:42 He's essentially fighting a club fighter from Indiana
01:03:45 who's barely ever fought out of the Midwest.
01:03:48 Now, on paper, you'd think that would be a mismatch,
01:03:50 but father time, of course,
01:03:52 evens that battle out a little bit,
01:03:54 and right now these two guys are going at it.
01:03:57 - Lamberg is stuck in on Hearns...
01:03:59 - Hearns is going to be the one to take the fight.
01:04:01 - Fighting with a sense of belief and confidence...
01:04:04 as he's been the aggressor.
01:04:08 Now Hearns gets a few shots on...
01:04:13 - Stop, stop, stop! - Again, the round comes.
01:04:16 - Lamberg getting bolder, John.
01:04:27 - Hearns...
01:04:29 opens up and he gets...
01:04:33 gets more going at the end of the round.
01:04:36 - Yeah, well, he-- that was a very good round for Lamberg.
01:04:40 Tommy showed some offense.
01:04:43 There's not quite enough steam on his punches
01:04:45 to really keep Lamberg off of him.
01:04:48 - And so we start round three.
01:04:51 Scheduled for 10, Tommy Hearns.
01:04:54 - Hearns, 47 knockouts.
01:04:57 Shannon Lamberg, 58, 10, 23 knockouts.
01:05:01 He's from West Lafayette, Indiana.
01:05:05 And the crowd trying to...
01:05:08 summon a blast from the past from Tommy Hearns.
01:05:11 - Well, they call Lamberg the Sandman.
01:05:17 They call Hearns the Hitman.
01:05:20 See if Tommy's got enough power to put the Sandman to sleep.
01:05:23 - Hearns has been a lot of times throughout his career
01:05:26 just a fabulous puncher
01:05:29 and a guy who prevent--
01:05:31 you know, gave everybody a lot of thrills in boxing
01:05:35 and always gave fans their money.
01:05:37 - Hands over your work, guys. - A lot like Evander Holyfield.
01:05:39 He always came to fight.
01:05:41 - Now, you go back to the fights with Leonard.
01:05:43 James Kinchin, who was in trouble in that fight
01:05:46 and had to hold on for dear life.
01:05:49 - I ran Barkley. - Fights with Barkley.
01:05:51 - And not to--yeah, Hagler, of course, was phenomenal.
01:05:54 Fights he won like Durant, Shuler, and shots up.
01:05:58 - Now Tommy's going to the body, Dave.
01:06:00 Digging down stairs. - Nice hip-throw hands.
01:06:03 - Tommy's really trying to put some behind those punches.
01:06:11 Going toe to toe.
01:06:14 - And he's landing his best shots.
01:06:19 And as you mentioned, Evander, before,
01:06:21 the guy's still there. - Stop punching.
01:06:23 - Well, yeah, it's a bit different
01:06:25 when you custom knockin' people out
01:06:27 than all of a sudden you hit 'em with your best shot,
01:06:29 they still standing, they still swinging.
01:06:31 You don't want to run out of gas either.
01:06:34 - Especially when you're 47 years old.
01:06:36 Tommy had a long layoff of several years,
01:06:39 came back and fought, I believe, last summer.
01:06:42 In fact, I think the guy who he fought,
01:06:47 John Long, may be in Landberg's corner tonight.
01:06:52 That's what they said.
01:06:54 - Break, step back.
01:06:57 - Landberg told me, Dave, down in the locker room,
01:06:59 that his goal was to go to the distance with Tommy Hearns.
01:07:02 He didn't say, "My goal is to defeat Tommy Hearns
01:07:05 or to stop Tommy Hearns."
01:07:06 It was to go the distance. - Let go of him, let go of him.
01:07:08 - So he knows, you know, in an ideal world,
01:07:12 Tommy Hearns is a more talented fighter,
01:07:14 and Landberg is also 40 years old,
01:07:17 so he's no spring chicken either.
01:07:18 - He'd like to have this type of a summit meeting
01:07:20 before he walks away from this sport.
01:07:22 - Right, and he doesn't have much longer to fight.
01:07:25 - But you do wonder if that perspective
01:07:29 is changing at all
01:07:32 with the way he came on in the rounds two,
01:07:35 beginning of round three,
01:07:37 as Hearns tries to find his offense here.
01:07:38 - Yeah, and you see Tommy warming up a little bit
01:07:41 to the task here in the third round.
01:07:42 A lot of times with an older fighter,
01:07:44 it takes a few rounds to get those pipes going.
01:07:47 There's a replay, Dave, in the third round here.
01:07:57 Tommy Hearns digging down with that left hand.
01:08:00 He tried to go to the body and was effective at times
01:08:03 in that third round,
01:08:04 missing with the right a little bit slow with it,
01:08:06 trying to come back with an effective left hook.
01:08:09 - Tommy showed much more offense in that round.
01:08:12 Short right hand on the inside.
01:08:13 It was a much better round for Hearns.
01:08:15 Can he follow it up in the fourth?
01:08:17 - Saw Tommy Hearns fighting almost in a squared-up manner.
01:08:21 Very unique position for a guy that had
01:08:25 one of the most patented right hands you ever saw.
01:08:28 37-year-old Tommy Hearns in here
01:08:33 against Shannon Landberg.
01:08:36 - Well, Marvin Hagler took away Tommy Hearns' leg.
01:08:38 He took away Tommy Hearns' legs early
01:08:40 in that memorable fight in Las Vegas,
01:08:42 and he was never the same
01:08:43 after getting caught early in the fight.
01:08:47 And Tommy Hearns never had great balance.
01:08:49 He never had classic balance for a boxer.
01:08:53 But with age, that balance is gonna be more exposed
01:08:57 because of the leg factors.
01:08:58 - Another thing, too, is Landberg comes in
01:09:00 and scores some right hands here.
01:09:03 Tommy Hearns always had the offensive bazooka
01:09:06 in his hand for a situation.
01:09:08 Now, at 47, he has to be cagey, finesse-oriented,
01:09:13 and that was never his game.
01:09:16 - And he was all-- gave us all power.
01:09:18 - Right, so... - Right.
01:09:20 - Evander, if that disappears from Tommy,
01:09:22 if that power game goes away from him,
01:09:24 what kind of a position does that put him in?
01:09:26 - Well, it put him in a bad position
01:09:27 because he's still trying to bring back the power
01:09:30 which will allow him to hit the clean shots
01:09:32 he didn't hit at that.
01:09:33 So, you know, if you-- not a counterpuncher,
01:09:36 in general, you put yourself in a position
01:09:38 to get hit with cleaner shots.
01:09:40 - Good point.
01:09:42 Left hook to the body by Hearns.
01:09:48 And Tommy Hearns, a right cross,
01:09:50 is one of his favorite punches in his heyday.
01:09:55 He's trying to shoot it.
01:09:58 Nice little uppercut on the inside by Hearns.
01:10:01 - And that's what I expected had it on Lambert.
01:10:04 Lambert continuing to move forward
01:10:06 as Hearns keeps tattooing him.
01:10:10 - Couple shots by Hearns.
01:10:12 Lambert trying to wind up and go to the body.
01:10:14 He's coming in on wide shots.
01:10:16 He tried for the uppercut just as Hearns had hit him with.
01:10:19 - But in essence, Lambert is really walking
01:10:21 through these punches.
01:10:22 I mean, there's no fear factor with Lambert.
01:10:25 You don't see him backing off.
01:10:26 He's getting hit.
01:10:27 He keeps moving forward.
01:10:30 - Hearns is amazed.
01:10:32 - The other thing to consider is,
01:10:34 this is '47, maybe Tommy Hearns just wanted to be
01:10:37 on a fight card with his son,
01:10:39 do something that could be a family deal like that.
01:10:43 - It's possible.
01:10:44 - Maybe in the back of your mind,
01:10:45 you're thinking maybe I've got something that--
01:10:47 Well, you know yourself.
01:10:49 There's a shot by Hearns, body shot.
01:10:51 - Hit him with three right hands on the inside.
01:10:55 Lambert looking in his corner.
01:10:59 - He's got it.
01:11:01 - The best display by Hearns.
01:11:02 And there was the patented look of that right hand.
01:11:06 Wide uppercut and Hearns putting some things together.
01:11:10 He has Lambert's attention and Hearns for the first time.
01:11:14 - Stop. Stop.
01:11:19 - So you ready for a shot?
01:11:27 - Hearns got more offense going at the end of the round
01:11:30 with the uppercut and he showed some--
01:11:34 - He did, he started putting his punches together.
01:11:36 Started putting some of his shots together,
01:11:38 getting a little bit of leverage behind him.
01:11:41 - As we start round five, Dave Pontempo,
01:11:45 John Saraceno, and our special ringside guest
01:11:50 from every way champion, Evander Holfield.
01:11:53 Man who thrilled many a large audience
01:11:56 when he was out on the world stage several times.
01:12:00 And Evander, what about the spotlight that a guy misses
01:12:05 when he's not in the ring and not in training
01:12:08 and in that eye anymore?
01:12:09 Is it a tough thing for guys to lose?
01:12:12 - Well, I don't actually think so.
01:12:14 I think a lot of times when you don't have anything else to do,
01:12:19 it can pull you back into it.
01:12:21 'Cause everybody likes to feel needed and wanted.
01:12:25 And I think in general, boxing is a sport
01:12:27 that you really have to think about
01:12:28 for really getting back in there.
01:12:30 Realistically, you don't want to be getting hit
01:12:32 just to get hit because it's an uncomfortable feeling
01:12:35 each and every time you go in the ring
01:12:37 to take the chance of losing when you're a winner.
01:12:41 - And I'll tell you, John, it will be interesting
01:12:43 when you get to talk to him later.
01:12:45 I wonder if he'll mention anything
01:12:46 about what came over him in the middle rounds of this fight
01:12:49 if some revelations occurred to him
01:12:51 about how he couldn't put this guy away.
01:12:54 He was taking some shots and he got tired.
01:12:56 And, you know, sometimes you get a little report card
01:12:59 on yourself in the middle of a fight.
01:13:01 It'd be interesting to see if he mentions that later.
01:13:03 - No question.
01:13:05 Well, Hearn's trying to keep this fight
01:13:10 in the center of the ring.
01:13:11 He's gotten off those ropes that he was on early.
01:13:15 But again, the legs are a factor with Tommy Hearns.
01:13:19 And if I'm Landberg,
01:13:21 I'm doing less aiming at the skull than I am the body.
01:13:26 Remember Eddie Futch, the late great trainer,
01:13:29 told me a long time ago
01:13:31 about fighters and their reflexes.
01:13:33 He said, "John, it's like having a bad pair of socks.
01:13:36 "When you lose that elastic and the socks come down,
01:13:39 "they never stay back up again when you lose that."
01:13:42 And there has been an erosion, naturally, of Tommy's reflexes.
01:13:47 However, I will say, for a guy 47
01:13:49 who hasn't fought much,
01:13:51 he doesn't really look that bad.
01:13:53 I mean, you know, he's--
01:13:56 - He looks good for a 47-year-old guy.
01:13:58 - For a 47-year-old guy, yeah.
01:13:59 - Yeah, I mean, the first two rounds,
01:14:01 he was very slow, and he was trying to get going,
01:14:03 but Tommy still knows how to throw.
01:14:06 - In other sports, you can ease nicely
01:14:09 into a senior's circuit. - Yeah.
01:14:11 - Boxing doesn't have. - No.
01:14:14 - I mean, you take a look at a sport like golf,
01:14:18 and you're 75% of what you were,
01:14:20 you can still be adored by the public
01:14:22 and they'll come out and see you.
01:14:24 - Tommy's throwing a lot.
01:14:26 I mean, he's really been active
01:14:28 the last two and a half, three rounds.
01:14:30 Again, I don't know about the effectiveness of those blows,
01:14:34 because his opponent looks fresh as a daisy, basically.
01:14:37 - After being hurt at the end of the last round.
01:14:47 - And we start round 6, scheduled for 10.
01:14:50 Future Boxing Hall of Famer Tommy Hearns,
01:14:53 65 and 1, 47 knockouts in Detroit,
01:14:57 going against Shannon Landberg,
01:15:00 58 and 10, 23 knockouts
01:15:02 going West Lafayette, Indiana.
01:15:05 Now, if you were just looking at records,
01:15:07 you'd say, "Oh, it's an even fight,"
01:15:08 and then you'd have to correct yourself
01:15:09 and say, "Well, the different circuits,"
01:15:11 but Landberg has made it a good fight.
01:15:13 - Yes, he has. He's been competitive,
01:15:16 especially so for a club fighter fighting a legend.
01:15:20 So it's an interesting fight,
01:15:22 and it's a--you know, in terms of a matchup of equalness,
01:15:25 it is.
01:15:27 - And just to give you some gravity on Tommy Hearns,
01:15:33 this is the ninth presidential administration
01:15:36 he's been still fighting. - Wow.
01:15:38 - Going back to the Jimmy Carter was the president
01:15:41 when he started in 1977.
01:15:44 It's been almost 20 years
01:15:46 since he won his light heavyweight title
01:15:48 against Dennis Andres.
01:15:50 - That's incredible.
01:15:53 - And it shows that people want to come out
01:15:57 and see him fight at 47 years old,
01:15:59 regardless of what he can do.
01:16:00 They'll give him this one shot at a showcase.
01:16:03 Jab by Hearns, hook to the body by Hearns.
01:16:11 - Hearns.
01:16:13 - Right hand coming in by Hearns.
01:16:20 - There's people booing, and I'm not quite sure why.
01:16:27 I don't know what they expected.
01:16:30 You know, both guys are in there trying to win the fight,
01:16:35 and they're both 40-something.
01:16:37 So, you know, you can't-- how do you boo?
01:16:40 How do you boo two guys like this?
01:16:42 I can't boo fighters who are trying to win
01:16:44 and doing everything they can.
01:16:46 - Your expectations are back 20 years ago.
01:16:48 That's basically what they're looking at here.
01:16:51 And Hearns is-- he's putting forth the effort.
01:16:54 The power just isn't there.
01:16:56 It's something we've touched on, and...
01:17:00 - Tommy said-- - You have to lose some things.
01:17:02 - Yeah, Tommy said he was planning to give it about a year
01:17:05 to let the fight for the 870-pound, 5-pound title.
01:17:10 He's interested to see if he gets that shot.
01:17:14 You may have seen next to him, Zavander Holyfield
01:17:17 is also on the redemption trail,
01:17:20 and he would also like to get a shot
01:17:22 at the heavyweight championship.
01:17:23 In fact, his goals remain the same since he's lost it.
01:17:26 He wants to win all the belts back,
01:17:29 and he's never wavered on that.
01:17:32 - Right now, Tommy Hearns...
01:17:35 gotta find a way--
01:17:36 and you see he's trying to get that head to move,
01:17:39 because he knows it's a bit of a stationary target.
01:17:41 - He's battling the stamina factor here as well
01:17:44 as we come to the end of the sixth.
01:17:47 - Stop! Stop!
01:17:49 - We start round seven.
01:17:52 Tommy Hearns and Shannon Landberg...
01:17:55 - Go to that corner, Tommy. Go to that corner.
01:17:56 - ...scheduled for ten.
01:17:59 Hearns, the legend.
01:18:01 Cross at 1977.
01:18:04 And Landberg, 58 and 10, 23 knockouts.
01:18:10 Fighting a man he idolized.
01:18:13 But he's come in here
01:18:16 and been pretty aggressive in this contest.
01:18:20 Fought up to his ability level.
01:18:22 - Now, Zavander, if you were fighting Tommy Hearns
01:18:24 at this age-- not you specifically,
01:18:26 but you're the opponent in the ring that night--
01:18:29 what would be your strategy with a guy that's 47 years old?
01:18:34 - Actually, I would just-- I'd just stay on him.
01:18:37 I'd--I'd use--
01:18:39 I'd use against the stamina,
01:18:42 because the fact is,
01:18:43 Tommy can't hurt him with the clean shot,
01:18:45 so it'd just be easy for him to do a lot of punches.
01:18:49 - There's two shots by Hearns,
01:18:51 and he fires some punches,
01:18:53 almost flat-footed and backing up,
01:18:55 which is another thing you didn't see from Tommy Hearns
01:19:02 in his heyday.
01:19:03 And for some people here tonight, it's a curiosity show.
01:19:06 - Of course. There's no question about it.
01:19:08 - You know, what is a guy at 47 going to look like?
01:19:11 What will they see parts of certain things
01:19:14 that reminds them of what he did years ago?
01:19:16 - Well, I want to take my son to see Tommy Hearns.
01:19:19 Now, how old was Archie Moore when he had his last fight?
01:19:22 He was up there, right?
01:19:24 - Yeah, yeah.
01:19:25 - He had to be pushing 50 if he wasn't 50.
01:19:29 - Yeah, I think--
01:19:30 - But he was a different kind of fighter, Archie Moore.
01:19:32 - Right.
01:19:33 - He was a much craftier, clever fighter
01:19:36 who could use his power.
01:19:37 Tommy was really a puncher.
01:19:38 He was a pretty good boxer, but now he's trying to pull it off.
01:19:42 - Now he's trying to get in here again.
01:19:43 He stumbles a bit.
01:19:45 - Well, here's for Landberg, Evander.
01:19:50 I think she'd be roughing him up on the ropes
01:19:51 and hitting him in the body, don't you?
01:19:53 - Yeah.
01:19:54 That's his only chance, only time Tommy--
01:19:56 Tommy get the best of him and Tommy have him going backwards.
01:20:00 And when he comes in full, we see him get the belt.
01:20:03 - I mean, that's a golden opportunity right there
01:20:05 to attack the body.
01:20:06 Yeah, he's gonna take a chance to expose the head,
01:20:08 but why is he backing off?
01:20:10 I mean, I don't understand that.
01:20:12 - Well, it looked like he don't have that much stamina.
01:20:15 - Oh, he's 40. - Yeah.
01:20:16 - There's Hearns opening up with a couple.
01:20:19 - Look at that break!
01:20:20 - And then stopping.
01:20:22 - One of the things that Hearns has to get used to
01:20:25 at this age is he hits a guy with a shot,
01:20:29 and the guy stays up,
01:20:30 and now he has to go after him more to get--
01:20:33 to have as much as what he used to.
01:20:34 - You know what, though? If Evander's right,
01:20:36 Landberg, that--that needle on the gas tank is quivering.
01:20:40 If you're really looking at him,
01:20:42 he's not frisky anymore,
01:20:43 and his balance is starting to go.
01:20:45 He's backing up.
01:20:46 - He's straight up now. - Yeah, yeah.
01:20:47 And I think Tommy's smart enough to know that,
01:20:50 and he's trying to win this war of attrition
01:20:52 if he can just outlast him,
01:20:53 because you see Landberg really kind of going
01:20:56 into a shell here on offense.
01:20:59 - Couple there by Landberg, but not much on it.
01:21:04 Another round goes into the night.
01:21:07 - We're gonna go to replays, Dave, from the last round,
01:21:14 as Tommy Hearns kept throwing.
01:21:16 Nice left hook for a 47-year-old guy,
01:21:19 Landberg dropped that right hand.
01:21:21 Another sweeping left hook.
01:21:23 Much better round for Hearns.
01:21:24 He's coming on here a little bit.
01:21:27 - So we'll go into the eighth round now.
01:21:31 Tommy Hearns, 60 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw, 47 knockouts.
01:21:36 Shannon Landberg, 58 and 10, 23 KOs.
01:21:41 - Let me tell you something about Tommy Hearns.
01:21:44 Tommy Hearns always displayed a lot of heart
01:21:47 and courage in the ring,
01:21:48 a lot like the guy sitting next to us.
01:21:50 And right now, watching him get off that stool,
01:21:54 Tommy Hearns is gutting this out.
01:21:56 If people only knew how hard this was to do at this age.
01:22:01 If he were 37, this would be a challenge.
01:22:04 But at 47, Tommy Hearns, in my opinion right now,
01:22:06 is fighting on sheer determination and guts.
01:22:10 Some people may say it's not the smart thing to do,
01:22:14 but what he's forcing himself,
01:22:15 what he's willing his body to do right now,
01:22:18 even against a club fighter,
01:22:20 you've got to hand it to him.
01:22:21 I mean, and this is the kind of heart Tommy had
01:22:24 when he was in his heyday.
01:22:25 Now he's saying that the tape is loose or something
01:22:29 on his opponent's glove.
01:22:31 Or he's hoping it's loose.
01:22:34 - He bought himself 15 seconds there.
01:22:37 - Well, Angelo Dundee, you know,
01:22:40 did a lot of tricks in the corner
01:22:41 with Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard.
01:22:43 In fact, I think he may have did--
01:22:45 - Did he pull one of those tricks
01:22:46 against him in the Hearns fight with the tape?
01:22:49 - He bought extra time, didn't he?
01:22:51 - He was also famous for cutting the gloves.
01:22:54 - Yeah, yeah.
01:22:55 And Tommy pulled a little trick on his back.
01:22:57 Ooh, nice right hand by Hearns.
01:22:59 And a one-two.
01:23:00 - A little vintage Hearns here with the offense.
01:23:04 It will be interesting going forward off of this
01:23:08 is whether he'll want to go to the gym
01:23:11 and make the sacrifices necessary.
01:23:14 - He's pulling up here.
01:23:15 Great left turn by Hearns.
01:23:18 - I don't know, Landberg's looking like
01:23:20 he's getting ready to go to me, Dave.
01:23:22 His legs are very wobbly, and Hearns knows it.
01:23:25 - There's a left hook by Hearns,
01:23:26 and Landberg backing up.
01:23:28 No offense in him now.
01:23:30 - The shots out of Hearns.
01:23:31 - As Hearns tries to step it up.
01:23:33 - Tommy took a shot at the body there.
01:23:36 He realizes Landberg is a little bit in trouble.
01:23:40 - Hearns is going to get a shot.
01:23:43 - Neither guy has a lot left,
01:23:45 but Hearns looks like he has more.
01:23:49 - Right hand by Hearns is blocked,
01:23:51 and two get in, and now double left hand
01:23:53 and right hand by Hearns.
01:23:56 - Now, Tommy, combination punching,
01:23:58 and his legs at the end of that five-punch combination
01:24:00 gave out on him, but the will is there,
01:24:04 and some of the skill is still there.
01:24:06 The right cross.
01:24:07 - Here he comes with three, four more.
01:24:09 - Right hand to the body by Hearns.
01:24:11 Left hook by Landberg.
01:24:13 There's a right hand by Hearns.
01:24:14 Hook by Hearns.
01:24:16 Hook gets in, and Landberg backing up.
01:24:21 Hearns squared up and going southpaw a little bit here.
01:24:24 - I don't think he can turn.
01:24:25 I don't think he has the energy to turn.
01:24:27 - A right hook by Tommy Hearns.
01:24:34 When did you ever think you'd hear that?
01:24:37 - Here's a straight right hand by Hearns.
01:24:40 See it knock Landberg back.
01:24:42 He buckled him a couple times in that round, Dave.
01:24:44 More action from the last round.
01:24:47 Tommy Hearns, a little bit of a flashback from the old days.
01:24:51 Digging down low, throwing combination punches,
01:24:54 giving it his all, the long right hand.
01:24:57 There it is.
01:24:59 - He looked like Tommy Hearns in that exchange.
01:25:02 So a couple rounds to go.
01:25:04 - You guys are gonna have to do something about this.
01:25:07 - Tommy Hearns and Shannon Landberg.
01:25:10 - Tommy just winked down at us as if to say,
01:25:13 "I'm gonna get him."
01:25:15 - Well, it's out there for him.
01:25:19 Ninth round, two more to go for Tommy Hearns
01:25:22 in this fight here at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
01:25:27 I'm Dave Pontempo along with John Cerasino
01:25:30 and our special ringside guest, Evander Holesfield.
01:25:34 Hearns advancing on Landberg.
01:25:42 - Landberg trying to move now.
01:25:44 He wasn't doing much that last round.
01:25:46 He took the worst of it, Dave.
01:25:48 A little mouse under Landberg's left eye.
01:25:50 Doesn't look like it was impeding the vision.
01:25:52 Wow, Hearns, is that a snappy jab.
01:25:54 Right hand, Hearns.
01:25:56 - Right hand getting in by Hearns
01:25:58 and then a snap there on the left hand.
01:26:02 - A businesslike look on the face of Hearns here.
01:26:05 Jab to the body.
01:26:07 Landberg gets in a two-punch combination.
01:26:16 Nothing on it, though, as his legs may be spent.
01:26:22 Jab by Hearns to the body.
01:26:25 - Getting into a boxing realm here.
01:26:28 - A lot of times when the reflexes go,
01:26:30 fighters almost can fight on memory.
01:26:32 They know what they need to do,
01:26:34 and they try to pull the trigger.
01:26:36 Sometimes they pull it, sometimes they're unable to.
01:26:38 And you can see Tommy at times
01:26:41 trying to do what he needs to do to fight properly.
01:26:44 It's just a few ticks slower.
01:26:48 - Two jabs by Hearns.
01:26:51 Landberg moving over.
01:26:53 And when you say the two ticks,
01:26:55 and that's the difference between a punch getting in
01:26:58 and then glancing off the shoulder.
01:27:00 - And it might be one tick or a half a tick,
01:27:02 but that's all it takes.
01:27:04 Fortunately, Landberg doesn't have the kind of speed or power
01:27:06 to make Tommy pay in a serious way.
01:27:08 - At Lavander, we had you play devil's advocate before
01:27:14 about coaching the opponent for Tommy Hearns.
01:27:17 Now let's say you're the trainer for Tommy Hearns or his manager.
01:27:20 What would your thoughts be to him going forward off this fight?
01:27:23 He came to you and said, "What should I do?
01:27:25 What should I be focusing on?"
01:27:27 - Well, I would tell him he just had to flick the jab,
01:27:30 just keep flicking the jab, come back,
01:27:32 and pop the right air at 9 there.
01:27:34 - From the standpoint of after this fight,
01:27:37 you said, "Is it worth it, Vanden, for me to keep going?"
01:27:40 - Well, actually, I would tell him no,
01:27:42 'cause he don't have the punching power for the weight.
01:27:46 And, you know, he was a great puncher,
01:27:49 4'7" middleweight, but once he got light heavy,
01:27:52 he never was the big puncher for that division.
01:27:56 - And we mentioned earlier, one of those fearsome
01:27:59 welterweight bangers you ever saw.
01:28:03 Coming up that many weight classes.
01:28:06 Tough on the power as we come to the end of the night.
01:28:12 [Bell dings]
01:28:13 - That right hand by Hearns getting in.
01:28:20 And Tommy Hearns fighting as a southpaw.
01:28:23 - Yeah.
01:28:24 - Different thing as he goes to first game.
01:28:26 - I don't think I ever saw that.
01:28:27 I never saw him turn unorthodox.
01:28:29 - First right hook I think I ever saw him throw.
01:28:31 - Yeah. Very unusual.
01:28:33 [Whistle blows]
01:28:35 - Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, Dave.
01:28:38 - And right hook is what he's gotta do tonight.
01:28:41 So...
01:28:42 [Bell dings]
01:28:43 [Bell dings]
01:28:46 - Final round.
01:28:47 Shannon Landberg has made a good effort tonight.
01:28:55 As he's gone against Tommy Hearns.
01:28:59 He'll tap up.
01:29:05 - It has been an interesting fight.
01:29:08 Landberg started off very quickly,
01:29:10 which was to be expected.
01:29:11 Tommy Hearns, it took him probably three--
01:29:13 good three rounds to get warmed up.
01:29:15 Then he started throwing combination punches.
01:29:18 And it's kind of taking control of the fight, Dave.
01:29:21 - Yeah.
01:29:22 We talked about Landberg.
01:29:24 Came in saying he wanted to go ten rounds with Tommy Hearns.
01:29:27 And then he seemed to have different ideas
01:29:29 around the third round.
01:29:30 And then he reverted back to wanting to go ten rounds
01:29:33 with Tommy Hearns.
01:29:35 - In the final round, Hearns, 60 wins, 5 losses,
01:29:39 one draw, 47 knockouts.
01:29:41 Shannon Landberg, 58 and 10, 23 knockouts.
01:29:46 - Well, Landberg did not like that body punch on the inside.
01:29:52 And now Hearns teeing off on the skull.
01:29:55 Can he sum it up for old time's sake?
01:29:58 Maybe he can.
01:29:59 Hearns lands two big shots.
01:30:02 - Landberg backing up.
01:30:05 Hearns fires a hook and then a big hook to the head.
01:30:08 Right hand by Hearns.
01:30:10 Body shot and a hook to Landberg.
01:30:13 Hoping that clock will speed its way to three minutes.
01:30:16 - Landberg has a real pained expression on his face,
01:30:19 like he's really hurting.
01:30:21 - And you know what?
01:30:23 He won't get there.
01:30:24 - I don't think that was a bad stoppage
01:30:26 'cause Landberg can't even move.
01:30:28 He almost looks frozen.
01:30:30 - Yeah, look, he's getting ready to fall out now.
01:30:33 - That was a good stoppage, right, Evander?
01:30:35 - Yeah.
01:30:36 He got to fall out.
01:30:37 - That body shot.
01:30:39 - The next minute of that fight
01:30:43 would have been brutal for Landberg.
01:30:47 He might have sustained more damage in that next minute
01:30:50 than he had up until that point.
01:30:52 - Yeah, Hearns stuck in a body shot.
01:30:54 I don't know if we're gonna see it.
01:30:56 And I saw Landberg really wincing,
01:30:58 cover up, might have been like right there
01:31:00 that that was the end of it, I'm not sure.
01:31:02 And after that, he couldn't even move.
01:31:04 He was frozen.
01:31:05 - The clubbing right hand got in.
01:31:07 You know, this is helped along by the fact
01:31:09 that Hearns knows it's the final round.
01:31:11 He's got a little something else in the tank.
01:31:14 - He hit it.
01:31:16 That shot there.
01:31:17 - Gets him there.
01:31:18 And then Landberg had the pained expression,
01:31:21 and you could tell those shots were getting to him.
01:31:25 Why put him through any more?
01:31:28 Good work here.
01:31:34 Well, we've got the final numbers.
01:31:39 Let's get them now.
01:31:40 - Ladies and gentlemen, here is the official time.
01:31:43 1 minute 35 seconds of round number 10.
01:31:47 Our referee in charge, Dale Grable, stops the contest.
01:31:51 Your winner by technical knockout,
01:31:53 Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns!
01:31:58 - Hand of Hearns is raised.
01:32:05 - And ladies and gentlemen, how about a big round of applause
01:32:08 for Shannon Landberg.
01:32:10 - There he is!
01:32:11 - Fought to the top of whatever abilities
01:32:15 a 47-year-old fighter can have
01:32:17 and still showed some power when it presented itself.
01:32:23 John Cerasino will speak with him,
01:32:25 and that will happen after we come back.
01:32:28 - Welcome back to the Palace at Auburn Hills.
01:32:32 Big victory for Tommy Hearns.
01:32:34 He's standing by with John Cerasino.
01:32:36 - All right, Dave, thanks a lot.
01:32:38 I'm in here with the ring with seven-time world champion
01:32:40 Thomas Hearns.
01:32:42 Thomas, quite a performance for a 47-year-old man.
01:32:46 Started off a little bit slow, but look like by the third round,
01:32:48 you got your legs under you a little bit,
01:32:50 you got loose, and you started throwing punches in combination.
01:32:53 - Well, John, that's what you seen.
01:32:55 I can't argue with you if that's what you seen,
01:32:57 but I felt like I wanted to just sort of relax
01:33:00 for the first couple rounds and sort of try to fill him out.
01:33:03 See what he really didn't have and what I really needed to do.
01:33:07 I see that I couldn't box the flat footed.
01:33:10 I had to get my toes moved side to side.
01:33:12 Because side to side movement threw him off.
01:33:15 I needed to shoot more lead right hands.
01:33:17 Also, I needed to shoot a lead left hook.
01:33:20 And that was a plus for me.
01:33:22 The jab worked perfect. The jab was there all night.
01:33:24 But I wanted to get my right hand and then play with the left jab.
01:33:28 - Did you hit him with a body shot in that last round?
01:33:31 Because it looked like as you went to the ropes afterwards,
01:33:34 he couldn't even move.
01:33:36 - Well, I sort of paralyzed him for a minute.
01:33:38 And I seen that, but, you know, I tried going back,
01:33:41 but he was protecting that body.
01:33:43 I mean, the man has skills.
01:33:45 The man has been around the ring for a long time.
01:33:47 He has 60 fights.
01:33:49 And he proved that he can definitely go the full distance.
01:33:52 - All right, Tommy.
01:33:53 Do you want to carry this comeback through?
01:33:55 And you've stated your goal is to win the Light Heavyweight Championship.
01:33:59 After tonight's performance, are you still on that course?
01:34:03 - My mind is not changing. My mind is still the same.
01:34:06 I just got to get the rain rough off.
01:34:08 Once the rain rough is over,
01:34:10 everybody will stop me again.
01:34:12 I can do whatever I want to do.
01:34:14 - Congratulations to Thomas Hearns.
01:34:16 And we'll send it back to ringside in Dave Bontempo.
01:34:19 - All right, thank you, John.
01:34:21 And you hear from Tommy Hearns saying that he's going to continue to march on
01:34:25 and see where this comeback takes him.
01:34:28 Tonight, it took him to a victory over Shannon Landberg
01:34:33 as he was able to stop Landberg in the final round.
01:34:38 Hearns getting momentum in the second half of the fight
01:34:41 and showed some of the vintage Hearns skills.
01:34:45 We'll be back.
01:34:47 We'll put a wrap on it after this.
01:34:50 - Part of that of boxing in Michigan,
01:34:56 Dave Bontempo and John Cerasino here to wrap up the evening's festivities.
01:35:01 And you start and end it with the name Hearns.
01:35:03 First of all, Tommy Hearns, like I said, nine presidential administrations.
01:35:08 He's here at age 47.
01:35:10 Your overall impressions of where he is now?
01:35:12 - What a great homecoming in Motor City for Tommy Hearns.
01:35:15 Age 47, showed still a lot of skill,
01:35:19 but more heart than skill at this point in his career, David.
01:35:23 The one thing that you can't replace with time is legs and reflexes.
01:35:28 Tommy Hearns being able to sustain a punch at 175 pounds.
01:35:32 It's going to be difficult if he wants to win a piece of that title down the road.
01:35:36 - And Ronald coming in here, a guy through a right hand,
01:35:40 just like his father used to in getting an early knockout.
01:35:43 Now, it may be time for him to step up and see how good he can be.
01:35:46 - Well, his father's really impressed with Ronald Hearns, and now we know why.
01:35:50 What a great young prospect,
01:35:52 and for a kid who's only been fighting for a couple of years, Dave,
01:35:55 he's got a tremendous future.
01:35:57 And with his father in his corner,
01:35:59 I suspect Ronald Hearns will create his own magic.
01:36:02 - Well, a showcase for the Hearns family.
01:36:05 I expect that the next time you see Tommy Hearns, if he fights again,
01:36:08 you might have to step him up. We'll see. Keep an eye on that.
01:36:11 For John Saraceno and our thanks to Evander Holifield for joining us,
01:36:15 this is Dave Bontempo saying goodnight from ringside, and we'll see you next time.
