Transcript
00:00 He's a star who likes a fast car.
00:08 The man is a Mopar guy.
00:09 He's always had a soft spot for those classic Chargers.
00:13 And now he plans on taking one of those rides to a whole new level.
00:17 It's actually one of the Chargers that's kind of underappreciated in my opinion.
00:21 It's music legend Kenny Wayne Shepard and a team of top car pros working on a Mopar
00:26 that's as cool as it is rare.
00:28 You know I wanted to customize one and show people what this car is capable of.
00:32 And he'll unveil it before a sea of Mopar mania.
00:36 The technology that these guys are coming up with in these cars today is truly amazing.
00:42 It's all going to happen right here on Hot Rod TV.
00:45 Coming your way right now.

01:21 Kenny Wayne Shepard knows what it's like to have fans.
01:25 He even knows what it's like to be a fan.
01:27 But for Kenny, it's all about cheering for a certain kind of car.
01:33 I'm a big Mopar lover and I really like the Dodge Charger.
01:37 It's one of my favorite cars, probably of all time.
01:41 He currently has his eye on a '72 Dodge Charger.
01:44 I really haven't seen anybody do one of these in a pro-touring style.
01:50 Kenny's heading to Picture Car Warehouse where Ted Moser and his team do what they do best.
01:55 We build, design and create cars for the movie industry.
02:00 Ted builds cars for guitar players too.
02:03 We're getting ready to tear this 1972 Dodge Charger down.
02:09 We're going to strip the paint and get it down to bare metal and see what we're working
02:12 with here.
02:17 As he always does, Kenny gets his hands down into the deconstruction.
02:24 And that's because this musician is also a certified car guy.
02:32 Safety first.
02:46 But ultimately, there's only one way to see exactly what sort of hand you've been dealt.
02:51 Alright, so let's see what's under this paint.
02:58 As Kenny and Ted start to peek behind the scenes, they're pleasantly surprised to learn
03:02 that the metal on this car is in pretty good shape.
03:08 The reason we wanted to strip this car is so we could look at it, see what we had and
03:12 figure out what we want to do cosmetic wise.
03:17 Well I think we're going to shade the side marker lights.
03:19 We're going to tuck the bumpers in basically nice and flush.
03:22 I think the car is probably going to be black, make it real sinister looking.
03:27 I think we could fit a 305 without doing any modifications to the rear end.
03:34 But we could also look into mini-tubbing it and even get an even wider tire back there.
03:38 I know we can do a 285 in the front too, so that ought to be some really good rubber there.
03:43 It's time for the next phase, and this will probably be the last firing of this old engine.
03:50 Well for a cool old classic, it sounds pretty good.
04:03 Just wait until they get done with this ride.
04:09 Kenny will be working with his pal Shannon Hudson of Redline Gauge Works.
04:13 And Shannon is the man when it comes to knowing how to do a new dash.
04:17 You know, just dashes is going to restore the dash.
04:20 We can have them add a couple of gauges over here.
04:24 Kenny needs to get in here and get his screwdriver and go to town.
04:28 Kenny knows that working on the car is only part of this get together.
04:33 It's a bunch of good friends getting together to work on a car.
04:36 The car is what brings us together.
04:38 I mean the seat's already been torn out.
04:39 Usually they find a lot of cool or not so cool stuff underneath the seats.
04:44 I just noticed that we've inherited some parking tickets with this car.
04:49 So, hopefully somebody pays them.
04:51 Because when we go to re-register this car, we might have a bit of an issue.
04:56 Well a car this old will have plenty of issues and plenty of surprises.
05:00 Starting with a new engine that's off the hook to be unveiled at a party that's just
05:04 as radical.
05:06 All that and more when we return to Hot Rod TV.
05:08 (upbeat music)
