00:13 The next vehicle in our competition is the Land Rover LR2.
00:16 It starts with a straight six 3.2 liter all aluminum engine,
00:21 offers 230 horsepower, 234 foot pounds of torque,
00:25 and the only six speed automatic transmission we have in this group.
00:29 As far as traction control, this vehicle has every software gizmo known to man.
00:35 It's about the most sophisticated all wheel drive system that's available out there.
00:39 Land Rover says it's the most capable and best four wheel drive vehicle in its segment.
00:45 How you define that segment is up to interpretation.
00:48 We've decided to take it here and test it among these other hard core four wheel drives to see how it does.
00:54 Terrain response is the key feature in this vehicle.
00:58 It offers a dial with five different settings that allows the driver to decide whether to drive on sand or snow or mud ruts or just a normal setting.
01:09 And in all the settings you have the opportunity to be in just a regular drive setting with the transmission
01:14 or a sport setting that allows you to manually shift up or down depending on the situation you're in.
01:21 In this particular competition, this vehicle did exceptionally well as you might expect on pavement.
01:27 On a lot of the windy roads that we took, this was the vehicle that people were clamoring to get into.
01:32 Very sporty feel, very low to the ground, very bad approach and departure angles,
01:38 which means this wasn't the trail bruiser that it doesn't pretend to be, but it does offer incredible traction.
01:45 We took it on a 33 degree hill climb with all these other vehicles with their low range ratio and big aggressive tires
01:52 and this vehicle with software traction that's able to go from one wheel to the next
01:57 allowed it to climb up the steepest hill that we would have even felt comfortable taking any vehicle up.
02:03 And we went back down too. It's got hill descent which allowed it to also brake and keep it under control at a relatively slow speed coming down.
02:13 Overall, this vehicle is going to have its hands full if it's going to do well in this competition.
