00:00 It's been a great Detroit show for the Premier Automotive Group.
00:27 This luxury division has unveiled a bunch of new concept cars and many of them have
00:32 production potential.
00:34 Let's take a look at a few.
00:42 This is the Range Rover Sport, the first ever high performance sport utility vehicle from
00:48 Land Rover, a specialist sport utility manufacturer.
00:52 Now the Range Rover Sport is built off the same platform as our sport utility of the
00:58 year, the Land Rover LR3.
00:59 So it has the same degree of refinement underneath and sophisticated air suspension.
01:05 Under the hood is a 390 horsepower supercharged version of the Jaguar derived V8 engine.
01:13 This will appear as an 06 and it will come also in a non-supercharged version with slightly
01:19 less power.
01:20 But that's not the only news, Land Rover has also spent money on the top of the range Range
01:25 Rover, this car's big brother.
01:28 The big news is new engines, again the Jaguar derived V8 which replaces the BMW unit that
01:34 has been used previously.
01:36 There's some extra features, some more detailed trim, but the top of the range version also
01:41 gets supercharging and in this case it has 400 horsepower.
01:47 It's been a tough year for Jaguar, 2004 has seen plant closures and falling volumes.
01:53 So the brand badly needed some good news for Detroit.
01:56 It unveiled this concept car, the Advanced Lightweight Coupe.
02:00 Now don't be fooled by the title concept car, this really is the next Jaguar XK8.
02:06 There'll be some minor detail changes to the front bumpers and rear bumpers and the interior
02:11 may not be quite as glitzy.
02:13 But basically this is the real thing, it'll appear as an 06.
02:17 It has the same Jaguar engine that we've seen in the previous car but upgraded with increased
02:24 capacity, more power and there'll be a supercharged option top of the range version.
02:29 The car will appear as an 06 and it will also be available as a convertible and that's very
02:34 important for the US market where 90% of current XKs are drop tops.
02:41 Volvo has a tradition of introducing concept cars that focus on the twin themes of the
02:47 environment and safety and the Volvo 3CC is no exception.
02:52 This car is designed to be built using an electric powertrain, a hybrid powertrain or
02:58 even a conventional gas engine under the hood.
03:01 But the really interesting thing about the 3CC is it actually previews some of the design
03:06 architecture of a forthcoming new small Volvo model called the C30.
03:12 The C30 will be built on the same platform as Volvo's S40 and the European Focus and
03:19 it will be a hatchback model, a sporty smaller car and to slide in under the S40.
03:26 There are no firm plans yet as to when we might see the C30 in the US, the car's not
03:32 even scheduled to make its worldwide debut until 2006, we'll just have to wait and see.
03:40 From the 2005 North American International Auto Show, this is Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief
03:45 Angus McKenzie.
