00:00 This time on Roadkill it's the take the muscle truck engine and put it in the boat go out on the lake take the boat
00:04 Engine back out of the boat put it back in the muscle truck and go home episode
00:07 And somewhere in there we have fun
00:11 So
00:13 It's January and because this is sunny Southern, California
00:34 It's almost 80 degrees out which means we can go boating where else you gonna be able to do this and
00:40 As usual we're gonna do this the hard way Dave's on his way to my shop
00:44 Because my cousin has this old jet boat without a motor and Dave has the muscle truck which has an LS 6-inch
00:51 We're gonna drag this to the lake
00:53 We're gonna rip the motor out of the truck put it in the boat go do some racing
00:56 Take the motor back out of the boat put it in the truck drive all the way back home
00:59 It will be just that easy. This is Roadkill
01:03 everything the hard way
01:05 Even if it kills us
01:07 Yo
01:13 That thing is cool. Yeah, right check the name out
01:16 1974 special you almost called it. It's a 76 really. Yeah, it's a Jeep pretty much
01:24 Well, I like this too. The genius of this plan here is
01:28 Yes, pretty fast
01:32 Pretty fast and together neither one of these have motor plates for an LS engine. Is this ready?
01:37 It has motor plates for an LS
01:42 But it is ours you'll go but it is built with some hokey stuff like the fuel system plumbed with Teflon line real good water system
01:50 Rubber hose that would hook up your washer and dryer
01:53 It's just water in the 60s and 70s. There were about 40 manufacturers
01:59 Producing like a hundred different models of jet boats and they all look like this
02:02 Well, there's only four that run worth a damn. This is one. Okay, it's old and fairly hacked up
02:07 And so, you know, it's not worth a ton of money
02:10 But you stick a halfway decent motor in it and at the very least it gets you and your beer to where you want to
02:14 Go this is one of the few boats that you can go really fast in and if the motor blows up
02:18 You don't get spit out of the boat. Okay, perfect. Yeah, it's safe. I've never really been a boat guy
02:24 I don't know anything about them
02:26 I don't think I ever will be but it's cool that I'm gonna get introduced to them right here
02:30 I'm glad he has them so that I can play with them
02:32 The boat itself though is super cool. If I had to have a boat I would have that it has patina it has style
02:38 It has 70s goodness going on. I dialed that thing in on the way here
02:41 But we need to fabricate a trailer hitch because the trailer hitch company sent me to right hand frame brackets instead of a right left
02:49 So we'll be hacking and welding
02:52 Well, we're gonna put all the really heavy stuff that could scratch anything in the truck because you know
02:58 We just put a brand new wood bed floor in there and that's how we're getting to the lake
03:01 That's how we're leaving for the lake
03:05 Ready? Yeah. Oh
03:08 Am I gonna barf? Nah, I'm not gonna get seasick in the boat
03:11 I think Finnegan's gonna do everything he can possibly do to embarrass me on this trip
03:15 I imagine at some point I'll end up in the water, but I will resist
03:19 We're packing up
03:21 Absolutely everything that we need to get this job done. We're not gonna forget anything
03:25 Finally we get to the actual problem here two right hand frame brackets or maybe left hand not a right and left
03:34 We will fully be maxing out my welder to put that together
03:37 I
03:39 Thought you were grabbing it too. Sorry, this fell and distracted me
03:47 Nice we planned that
03:58 It's a spoiler
04:04 We were destined for this look at this. There's no reason for this not to happen. Everything fits
04:09 Well the thing with this aftermarket hitch is that if we do it like it's meant to be the bracket hangs down so far
04:18 The hitch is gonna end up right about here because the truck is so low. I mean literally it would be right there
04:24 So we're figuring out how to fabricate our own crossmember and receiver now to make the hitch
04:31 We had to fabricate our own crossmember make sure that we weren't welding near the gas tank so that that exploded
04:36 We also had to make it so that we could still service our fuel pump and to do all of that
04:40 We had to unbolt the entire bed of the truck to pick it up a little bit so that we could do our fabricating
04:56 This trailer hitch is 99 and a half percent done
04:59 All I need now are the plates that he's drilling. We'll clamp those to the truck weld this to the plates
05:04 Dishes are done. We're out of here. We got these side plates done now miraculously all my holes that I drilled lined up perfectly
05:11 So now we have to mock the hitch in there mark it weld it up bolt it together
05:16 Drop the bed back down bolt it back on
05:19 Load the boat hit the road
05:22 And it's dark outside already
05:26 I called it pretty soon. We'll be having that conversation about well should we really leave tonight, or should we just leave in the morning?
05:33 I'm sure in the real world you'd like these brackets to be about this long
05:43 But this is the roadkill world where the brackets are this long and it works perfectly
05:54 Yeah, look at that
05:56 Chicks everywhere are gonna want to get towed by the muscle truck now Wow
06:06 745 in the morning
06:19 I think we're about to hit the road and I think we might even make it all the way to Lake Elsinore
06:23 Apparently, it's like a hundred miles away. It's gonna rain
06:26 Perfect. I'm gonna let Finnegan drive because this thing has no brakes and I'm not crashing the boat
06:33 We're winning right now
06:38 I didn't want to jinx it. I don't want to say we're gonna make it
06:41 It's like we're winning right now. Now this is this moment, right?
06:46 Can we please do a burnout with the trailer attached?
06:49 Only if you tape up the front of the boat
06:52 But yeah, we can
06:54 Ask me the power window operator
06:57 The needle nose off-brand Chinese vice grip is not the way to go for the window
07:06 Today we're headed to a boating event known as the Tom Papp Memorial
07:16 Tom Papp was a guy who is essentially a mentor to the whole jet boat community in Southern, California
07:21 And had a shop where he would help out anybody and essentially not charge them for it
07:26 So when he passed away
07:27 They decided that they would meet every year to honor him and it turned into this giant gathering where like a hundred boats show up
07:34 every year
07:36 We're headed to Lake Elsinore, California
07:39 Which is just south of Riverside about 70 miles from LA and from what I hear the place is nasty
07:45 In fact, even the locals call it Lake Smell-some-or. The good news is that it's not that great for fishing or swimming
07:51 It's all about speed boating
07:53 Typical roadkill fashion. I didn't think we'd actually make it this far
07:58 So I didn't call them to say hey, we want to come change an engine in your parking lot, right?
08:03 But there is no sign that says don't work on your boat. So I'm thinking that applies to trucks as well
08:09 The problem I think is the cameras. We probably should go in there and say hey
08:14 Can we film your establishment for the next 24 hours?
08:18 For the next 24 showers ish hours ish. Oh, yeah
08:24 Well, let's go see
08:26 So we talked to the guys in the office and said basically hey
08:29 Do you guys mind if we just work on our boat a little bit? They're like, sure. We don't care
08:34 They had no idea what was coming. It was sort of a forgiveness versus permission program. Where do you want to do it?
08:42 I'd really like to avoid dirt, but that's the road right there, isn't it?
08:45 We can put the back of the boat at the edge of the dirt. Oh
08:48 Like turn the trailer around disconnect it. Yeah
08:51 Yeah
08:51 I wish we could film these guys because the look on their faces when they figure out what oh
08:55 We got to do a little work to our boat is
08:57 Why would they really care I don't we're not gonna put oil on the ground much
09:03 I know a buddy that got staff infection from this lake. So don't dive in with your mouth open
09:09 We were here for a boat race and he was one of the guys that was helping launch boats
09:13 And he had a cut on his leg. He was in the water all day and ended up in the ER
09:17 But I love this place
09:22 Could have been my toe it wasn't but it could have been okay
09:28 This is the key to our success is the portable Chinese made
09:39 And totally reliable
09:41 Engine hoist. This is the same hoist that went to Sparks, Nevada and put an engine in an El Camino during a snowstorm in a parking lot
09:49 That might send a message
09:52 You think this the telltale sign?
09:55 Stuff's about to get weird in their parking lot. You said you had a little bit of work to do
09:59 We consider this a little bit of work. This isn't that bad. We're gonna take a day or less
10:04 This might be another clue
10:06 What's about to go down? Oh, maybe it's just overheating
10:10 We've got MSD atomic EFI on the way
10:14 So we're gonna go ahead and get that thing started
10:16 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:18 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:20 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:22 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:24 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:26 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:28 We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started. We're gonna go ahead and get the engine started
10:30 We've got MSD atomic EFI on this thing, which is like the simple self-learning fuel injection deal
10:32 We've got MSD atomic EFI on this thing, which is like the simple self-learning fuel injection deal
10:34 We've got MSD atomic EFI on this thing, which is like the simple self-learning fuel injection deal
10:36 All of the electronics and everything are in here
10:38 It's just a matter of unzip tying and unplugging everything
10:40 It's just a matter of unzip tying and unplugging everything
10:42 And then we'll get it out
10:44 And be able to put it back in quickly
10:46 So this is the wiring harness that's gonna allow us to quickly put that LS6 into that jet boat and run it
10:48 So this is the wiring harness that's gonna allow us to quickly put that LS6 into that jet boat and run it
10:50 So this is the wiring harness that's gonna allow us to quickly put that LS6 into that jet boat and run it
10:52 So this is the wiring harness that's gonna allow us to quickly put that LS6 into that jet boat and run it
10:54 So this is the wiring harness that's gonna allow us to quickly put that LS6 into that jet boat and run it
10:56 This will control the spark
10:58 This will control the spark
11:00 So much wind
11:12 So much wind
11:14 So much wind
11:16 So much wind
11:18 So much wind
11:20 This makes up for years of us ruining the earth.
11:24 Alright.
11:25 Driver's side header exchange on a C10.
11:29 Never happened before.
11:30 Pretty good.
11:31 Never.
11:32 Try that.
11:33 It's nice.
11:34 There's a lot of sand there.
11:36 I'm under here trying to undo the torque converter to flywheel bolts and unfortunately we've got
11:41 nothing to turn the engine over with.
11:43 So we're trying to rig the starter to work.
11:47 There, stop.
11:49 Okay.
11:50 Let me get one out.
11:52 Ow!
11:53 Oh, pinch!
11:54 Oh, that hurt.
11:57 That sucks.
11:58 I can feel the empathy.
11:59 It pains me.
12:00 It troubles me to hear you speak that way.
12:09 It's only raining a little bit.
12:15 I hope it gets much worse before we're done.
12:20 This just stopped working.
12:22 So that oil on the floor of the truck came from the jack.
12:27 Exactly.
12:28 Alright, we're good to go.
12:29 Yeah!
12:47 That moment, we just won.
12:51 So far, we've been pretty lucky.
12:53 We haven't tried to actually hang this in the boat yet, so I shouldn't talk too soon.
12:58 These are the original mounts that actually bolted the LS6 into our truck.
13:02 These will not work in our boat.
13:05 Chris Starkweather over at B1 Racing in Santa Ana, California crafted a front motor plate
13:10 setup that will bolt onto the existing water pump holes and then down to the stringers
13:15 of the boat.
13:16 And this is how we're going to mount this thing in.
13:18 See, the thing about boats is they're super easy to work on, but there are no kits for
13:23 these things.
13:24 You can't go online and just order a conversion set of bolts and mounts to put one of these
13:28 together.
13:29 Look at this bitchin' mid plate.
13:32 This thing was made by B1 Racing in Santa Ana, California, and it's nice.
13:35 I mean, look at the mill job.
13:37 The problem is, this nice semicircle is an interference fit with the flex plate.
13:42 Apparently, they had mocked it up on an engine that had a smaller diameter flex plate.
13:45 So this is hitting, and instead of letting it self-clearance, we're going to fire up
13:48 the generator and Finnegan's going to hit it with the flap disc and create greatness
13:53 out of butchery.
13:54 So it fits now?
14:09 Yeah, all that grinding I did, not necessary, it was on backwards.
14:13 I didn't do that.
14:14 When you turn it around, it fits just fine.
14:19 Let's not focus on who did it, let's just focus on, hey, motor goes in boat now.
14:22 It's fixed.
14:23 I need to smash those balls, I need to smash them back in.
14:24 Yeah, they're on the ground.
14:25 Whoa, it just chipped a big piece off the main rail.
14:38 Because it's sitting on the main rail, because it can't come my way because of the starter.
14:42 Okay.
14:43 We can grab a Sharpie, we need to mark it, we need to grind the aluminum part of it.
15:07 Ah, that's better.
15:14 Okay, we'll work all night now.
15:23 That's not going to piss off the neighbors.
15:24 We could always stick this in the cab of the truck with the windows up.
15:28 Yeah, because the exhaust wouldn't hurt that situation.
15:35 We have a couple of problems going on here now.
15:37 This adapter was built to be able to connect the drive shaft for the boat to the back of
15:41 the crank shaft.
15:43 But the problem here is that the drive shaft is completely bottomed in the jet away, which
15:47 isn't good, and our adapter won't fit in there.
15:51 It's as if the crank flange has a different offset in it than it did on the engine that
15:56 they mocked it up with.
15:57 So we have to move the engine forward in order to get enough slip travel in the drive shaft
16:03 in order to fit this in, but after that, we still need to be able to get a longer bolt.
16:08 And the thing that we have discovered is this is a special thread designed by GM that does
16:12 not match anything we're going to be able to get at a hardware store anywhere.
16:15 Right?
16:16 That about sums it up.
16:18 We're screwed.
16:19 I think there's a certain level of...
16:21 All right!
16:22 And the generator's out of gas.
16:25 Can I go to sleep now?
16:28 No.
16:29 By now it's like midnight and we had no solutions other than for Mike to hitch a ride all the
16:34 way back up to his shop where he was going to hook up with a guy who would machine our
16:38 spacer just a little bit, and more importantly, loan us three bolts that would go in the back
16:43 of the LS crank.
16:47 The guy I wanted to race tomorrow, Mr. Nuckenfutz, has an LS powered jet boat and we robbed three
16:53 of the bolts out of the back of his crank shaft.
16:56 So now it's even.
16:57 He's got three.
16:58 We have three.
16:59 I'm sure none of it will come flying apart in the middle of that race.
17:04 And the guys at B1 Racing shaved 400 thou off the back of our drive shaft yoke, so now
17:08 we have clearance clearance and this engine can stay in the boat and I can't talk anymore
17:13 because it's really late.
17:14 When the drive shaft breaks, does it just go through the bottom of the hull and sink
17:17 the whole thing?
17:18 Because that would be great video.
17:19 There's a battery there.
17:21 After it saws through that and starts an electrical fire, does it do that?
17:24 Well, I figure when it's...
17:25 The good news is the electrical fire goes out when it goes underwater.
17:28 Right.
17:29 I never understood why they put a fire extinguisher in boats because...
17:35 Water doesn't burn.
17:36 Let's be honest.
17:37 You're there.
17:38 You're there already.
17:39 Easy as that.
17:40 Get all that mashed whatever.
17:41 Oh my God, look at all the sand.
17:42 Wow.
17:43 That's bad.
17:44 This is all sand from when we took this to the dunes.
17:45 If that tells you how hardcore we got out there, that's pretty legit.
17:46 I don't know how we're going to deal with it.
17:47 I'm going to go ahead and get the other side of the boat.
17:48 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:49 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:50 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:51 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:52 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:53 I'm going to get the other side of the boat.
17:59 I think that's all we got.
18:03 So if we had enough sand in there, would it sort of extrude along the ports as it ran?
18:08 The EFI was cool and all, but it just wasn't saying jet boat.
18:12 And so, bam!
18:14 Holley Hi-Ram Tull-O-Ram and two 650 Ultra double pumpers.
18:19 You couldn't really have the boat without that.
18:21 Look how much bigger our engine is now.
18:22 I know.
18:23 Oh yeah.
18:24 She makes 850 NA, 1200 on the bottle.
18:29 Where's your nitrous?
18:30 Don't worry about it.
18:31 Yeah.
18:32 You know, it's got the sand, dude.
18:33 The what?
18:34 The sand.
18:35 It's the new thing.
18:45 As usual, we were dead late when we arrived at the event because we had been up all night
18:50 trying to put the Rogers together.
18:52 And when we showed up, the launch ramp was packed with chrome and powder coated machines
18:58 and a whole lot of people that were ready to hit the water.
19:02 It's morning now, day of the event.
19:04 As you can see, a lot of people here ready to have a good time.
19:08 And we are not quite ready.
19:09 We're close though.
19:10 The carburetors are on.
19:11 That's the key to life right there.
19:12 Gloriously, I was able to actually sleep five hours last night, which I think is going to
19:16 save us this morning because we don't have that much left to do.
19:21 People are taking bets right now how long it's going to take us to get in the water.
19:23 It's nine o'clock and he's claiming noon.
19:26 And I'll say that's reasonable, which means two.
19:30 Here's what we got left here.
19:31 We've got to wire the ignition, hook up all the fuel lines, plumb the puke tank, and then
19:38 put the headers on, tighten up the alternator.
19:41 We're good.
19:42 Recognize this guy?
19:43 He made the roll cage on our VetHack car.
19:44 And believe it or not, he had a customer come into his shop and go, "You know what?
19:47 I need one just like that."
19:49 So he duplicated that VetHack car and it got delivered, what, yesterday?
19:52 Yeah, last night at 11 o'clock.
19:53 Yeah, that's amazing.
19:54 Yeah.
19:55 In the truck, we had the Atomic EFI running the ignition system, but when you put carburetors
19:59 on an LS engine, you need something to trigger the coils because the GM Gen 3 engines have
20:03 no distributor at all.
20:05 And so there's one answer to that, which is these MSD boxes.
20:08 They make two of them.
20:09 One of them is for the early engines with a 24-tooth reluctor on the crankshaft that
20:12 plugs in right here.
20:14 The later engines tend to be a 58.
20:16 There's some crossover years where you really got to find out which reluctor that you've
20:19 got.
20:20 But once you know that, you just buy the correct box.
20:22 It all plugs right in.
20:23 One for the left bank, one for the right bank.
20:25 Then they go to some of the sensors like the crank position and the cam position.
20:29 And then you have to deal with your timing.
20:31 In the bottom of the box right here, there's a place you can shove a chip in that has a
20:34 pre-programmed timing curve.
20:35 But we prefer to go with the actual programmed curve through our laptop computer that plugs
20:40 in right there.
20:40 [MUSIC PLAYING]
21:06 I said we'd be done by noon.
21:07 It's 1120, giving us plenty of time to start the boat, find out that everything leaks,
21:12 and work on it for another half an hour before we go on the water.
21:15 [ENGINE STARTING]
21:17 Yeah!
21:17 [ENGINE RUMBLING]
21:21 OK.
21:23 Let's go boating.
21:24 [MUSIC PLAYING]
21:38 So what are the odds this thing floats?
21:39 Been 10 years since it's been in the water.
21:43 You're floating now.
21:45 OK.
21:46 Pull it back out.
21:47 Go out.
21:48 Apparently, we have not only a small water leak, but a big gas leak.
21:52 Somebody put tape around the braided hose, as you normally do, to keep it from fraying.
21:57 But then the tape is still in there while the fitting is put together.
22:00 And so it seems like it's holding the hose in a way that's making it leak out of the
22:03 fitting.
22:04 So we've got to take that apart and try not to fill the whole village with gas while we're
22:07 doing it.
22:08 Here's our solution.
22:09 Leaky hose, bring the spare, build a new one.
22:12 We'll be on the water in 10 minutes.
22:13 [MUSIC PLAYING]
22:31 Yeah!
22:32 [LAUGHTER]
22:35 I literally had the shakes the first time I hit the key on the Rogers.
22:39 I mean, think about it.
22:40 We just ripped this engine out of a truck, put it in a boat that hadn't been
22:43 on the water in about 10 years.
22:45 And now I was ripping across Lake Elsinore in this thing.
22:48 [ENGINE REVVING]
22:54 [MUSIC PLAYING]
22:59 After cruising for a bit, throwing a rooster tail, and playing it safe getting
23:03 to the other side of the lake, we finally rolled into the cove.
23:06 And the scene was epic.
23:09 Side by side drag racing with boats, people hanging out on the beach having a
23:12 good time.
23:14 I mean, if it wasn't January, there would have been bikinis everywhere.
23:17 And this would have been the best day at work ever.
23:20 Once we beached the boat and started to hang out, Finnegan broke the news.
23:24 He had realized about halfway across the lake that we had actually jacked up
23:28 the controller that adjusts the angle of the jet coming out
23:30 of the back of the boat.
23:32 It was dead flat.
23:33 And apparently that means if we raced, someone was going to die.
23:36 What we did was took a piece of ski rope and tied the nozzle in the up position.
23:41 We didn't have any control over it, but at least now the boat would plane out
23:44 and throw a rooster tail.
23:45 And we could still enjoy the rest of our day, even if we couldn't go drag racing.
23:49 [MUSIC PLAYING]
23:57 Instead of racing, we just decided to cruise around the lake
24:00 and check out this boat that hadn't been on the water in 10 years.
24:03 And you know what?
24:04 It was good.
24:04 We had a lot of fun.
24:06 As a matter of fact, it was probably the best two hours of boating ever.
24:10 Hard earned.
24:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
24:19 We're out of gas.
24:21 You're kidding.
24:21 Nope.
24:22 We ran out of gas.
24:28 It's all right.
24:29 I feel good.
24:30 Maybe eventually we'll get to the outhouse.
24:32 That happened.
24:36 They don't get the best fuel economy.
24:40 I think you can rate it in single digits.
24:42 Like, the average jet boat goes about three miles per gallon,
24:45 something like that.
24:47 And I don't care, because it's about 50 smiles per gallon,
24:50 as far as I'm concerned.
24:52 So paddle?
24:54 Didn't bring a paddle.
24:56 We have no life vest, no paddle, no rope, even if they could tow us.
25:01 Well, you know what that means.
25:02 We've got nothing.
25:03 We need to catch on fire, because we're prepared for that.
25:05 Just sink this bitch and get it over with.
25:09 Well, I feel good.
25:11 You know what?
25:12 I was going to do the same thing.
25:13 Solid.
25:14 It's a good win.
25:15 I think America wants to see the bottom of our feet.
25:17 People outside of America probably not, but not yours anyway.
25:22 Look at that.
25:23 Karate nasty foot.
25:24 Check that out.
25:25 Eventually we'll float to land, right?
25:28 I'm not in a big hurry to take this motor out anyway.
25:31 I got to pee.
25:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
25:37 [INAUDIBLE]
25:41 Hit it.
25:42 Here we go.
25:44 Yeah.
25:45 This is fully illegal, refueling on the water.
25:49 This is the water tank.
25:49 I'm filling it up for ballast.
25:51 We're going to go wakeboarding soon.
25:52 [MUSIC PLAYING]
26:01 [SCREAMING]
26:04 Nice.
26:05 I'm sorry.
26:05 I won't do it again.
26:06 I promise.
26:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
26:10 [SCREAMING]
26:11 [LAUGHTER]
26:13 You knew that was coming.
26:14 [SCREAMING]
26:16 [ENGINE REVVING]
26:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
26:22 After the boat event, we pretty much just hung out,
26:24 had a lot of fun, talked to some people, which left the engine
26:27 swap to the next day.
26:28 And when we woke up, perfect.
26:30 It's raining.
26:31 But as you know, there's no glory without suffering.
26:35 This is going to be fun.
26:37 Pit area is sloppy and wet now.
26:39 I have the hard part of this job.
26:46 OK, that's good.
26:48 Stop, stop, stop, stop.
26:52 It's Sunday, the day after the Tom Pabb memorial
26:54 out there on the water.
26:55 Full success.
26:56 That's what we had.
26:57 Now all we got to do is get that engine out of that boat,
27:00 put back in that truck the way it was before so Dave's happy,
27:05 and drive home.
27:06 It's barely drizzling right now, but the forecast
27:08 says that it's going to pour later on.
27:10 And our video guys have taken the easy up
27:12 so they can keep their camera gear dry.
27:15 Alternator's a little scuffed.
27:18 Who ordered ranch dressing?
27:19 It's all over the alternator now.
27:21 We are about to set our own personal record for removing
27:28 an engine out of a jet boat.
27:30 I'm calling 10 minutes this thing's out of the boat.
27:33 And we have not disconnected or done anything
27:36 other than getting out the tools we know we need to do the job.
27:40 Prepare to be amazed.
27:41 Ready, go.
27:43 OK, fuel line is loose.
27:48 Breather hoses are off.
27:54 OK, hand it over to the transom.
27:56 Transom's off.
27:58 [CLANGING]
27:59 Guide it up and over the dipstick.
28:04 There we go.
28:05 OK.
28:06 OK, what do I need to get the starter off?
28:09 Oh no.
28:10 What?
28:11 The hoist fluid.
28:12 We're hosed.
28:14 No, it wasn't upside down.
28:15 It'll be fine.
28:17 It just takes a few pumps to get started because it's Chinese.
28:20 Sorry, China.
28:21 China gets us every time.
28:25 Water line is hanging up on something.
28:28 Go.
28:30 All right, what's the time?
28:31 10 out.
28:32 12 minutes, 36 seconds.
28:35 We didn't do 10.
28:36 Close enough.
28:36 We didn't even scratch the boat.
28:40 Nope.
28:41 As it turns out, the local Walmart does not have rain gear.
28:52 I had this.
28:52 My pants are going to get soaked.
28:54 The rain's coming.
28:55 So we're improvising.
28:59 Oh, dude, this is going to work.
29:00 I feel like Superman now.
29:06 Our jet boat motor is rapidly becoming a muscle truck motor
29:09 again.
29:09 We've got the front accessory drives on.
29:11 About to put the power steering back on it.
29:13 And then I think we'll put it in the truck.
29:16 [MUSIC PLAYING]
29:19 Look at this.
29:30 That's how much it's raining.
29:36 Hey, can we do like on overhauling,
29:38 where we just get like a whole crew of guys
29:40 to come in here and wrap this up.
29:41 And then they show us like polishing it off and driving it
29:44 out.
29:45 Are you talking smack on chip?
29:47 We are done with the cherry picker.
29:49 A little bit of water.
29:54 A little bit of sand.
29:55 These rails right here, the fuel rails
29:57 with the injectors that Finnegan's cleaning sand off
29:59 of from our off-road excursions in the muscle truck,
30:02 they just drop right in.
30:04 The computer that controls the thing is in these rails.
30:07 There's just a power module on the firewall.
30:09 And everything plugs right in.
30:10 It's basically a no-brainer installation.
30:12 It looks kind of messy because we've had it on before.
30:15 But these are all just plugs that go to like the crank
30:17 position sensor, the cam position sensor,
30:19 all the stuff that's already on the LS motor.
30:21 The home stretch.
30:24 As soon as I find the nut for the starter,
30:26 I'll have the headers on.
30:27 Finally, it was down to the grueling.
30:35 And naturally, some of the bolts that we had taken out just two
30:38 days before had walked away.
30:40 So there were some minor nightmares.
30:41 And we were burned out.
30:42 But we finally got it running and hooked up the boat
30:45 and headed back for home.
30:46 Fixed.
30:46 Dishes are done, man.
30:51 Let's go home.
30:52 This is something we had talked about doing for so long.
30:55 And I can't believe we actually pulled it off.
30:57 So many guys out at the lake were like,
30:59 why would you even do this?
31:01 Take apart a perfectly good truck,
31:03 put it in the boat, the whole thing.
31:04 You know what?
31:05 It's because we can.
31:06 I know you've never seen it before.
31:08 And this was glory.
31:10 And being out there on the lake was actually a lot of fun.
31:12 I learned a lot about speedboats.
31:14 It was great to see how the LS performed in the thing.
31:17 So Finnegan finally got in his boat episode.
31:20 And you know what?
31:21 It was a lot cooler than I thought it was going to be.
31:23 I had a lot of fun out there on the lake.
31:25 Was it really worth all the wrenching, though?
31:28 Not really.
31:29 You didn't think we'd end without a burnout, did you?
31:34 [ENGINE REVVING]
31:38 Wake up!
31:58 God, that doesn't work.
32:00 That sucks.
32:03 It's like he's in a coma at all times.
32:06 What'd I miss?
32:08 Hey, footage.
32:09 We're not playing.
32:10 This is the air shower.
32:11 [DOG BARKING]
32:15 What?
32:20 This is why we bring the quiet dog normally.
32:22 What?
32:23 I have to work.
32:24 You're not helping.
32:25 [DOG PANTING]
32:33 [INAUDIBLE]
32:34 But for now, we're zip tie and license plate.
32:40 Ready?
32:41 Ready?
32:41 Whoa!
32:44 You're getting pumped.
32:45 Oh!
32:46 [LAUGHTER]
32:49 I'm taking you home, but I'm not going home with you.
