00:00 Guys, this is so cool.

00:04 - Hi, I'm Billy Raybach with Automobile Magazine.
00:12 Today, Hot Wheels hooked us up with Hot Wheels ID,
00:15 the biggest update to the Hot Wheels system in decades.
00:18 We're gonna dive in and take a look right now.
00:21 On top, we have this two-fold orange box
00:27 and it's designed to look like the NFC chip
00:30 that's on the bottom of the car.
00:31 There's some glossy images of Hot Wheels track.
00:34 Right in the box, we have six cars.
00:35 We have an Aston Martin Shark Hammer, Mercedes AMG GT,
00:39 a Corvette C7R, and Howlin' Heat.
00:41 So it's a mixture of OEM cars and Hot Wheels own creations.
00:45 So right here, we have a chip and this is the ID chip
00:48 that identifies the car as being completely unique
00:50 in the world, just like a VIN on a real car.
00:52 We have some classic Hot Wheels track,
00:54 new Hot Wheels adapters,
00:56 and then what's arguably most important for this set,
00:59 the dock.
01:00 Now this dock is the portal from the real world
01:02 into the digital world.
01:04 When the Hot Wheels car drives across the dock,
01:06 the dock scans the chip
01:07 and then your car is uploaded into the digital world.
01:09 The track can actually track your car in real time
01:12 and every piece of track can communicate with each other
01:14 and then work together to upload all of the data
01:16 that you log in real life into your app.
01:19 So the new dock has connectors for the new system,
01:21 but it's also backwards compatible
01:23 with all of your old Hot Wheels track.
01:25 This is the Hot Wheels ID portal.
01:27 It has infrared sensors to log the speed
01:29 and an NFC sensor to log the car itself.
01:32 We went ahead and set up the track.
01:34 So now all I gotta do is fire up the app
01:36 and get my first car scanned into the app.
01:38 Here's our car and here's the chip right here.
01:40 We're gonna hold the chip up to the phone,
01:42 tap it right there.
01:43 Boom, done.
01:45 So now that the car is in the game,
01:46 all I have to do is touch the little Bluetooth reader here
01:48 and tap my portal.
01:49 So my phone knows exactly what my track setup is.
01:52 Put my phone down and now I'm ready to race.
01:54 Now that we're playing, I can pump the supercharger.
01:57 No D batteries like there used to be.
01:59 You wanna keep it in the blue.
02:01 And if you go red, you're going way too fast.
02:03 And I can watch them on here and then it's time to send it.
02:06 My phone kept track of the speed of my car.
02:12 So I had 97 miles an hour.
02:14 All of the RPM numbers, all of the miles per hour
02:16 are all in 164 scale, just like a Hot Wheels car.
02:19 Every mile that my car logs gets logged in the app as well.
02:22 So just like your real car collects miles on the odometer,
02:24 the Hot Wheels car also collects miles itself.
02:27 So you can show off to all your friends
02:28 how many miles your car has,
02:29 just like you would do with a real car.
02:31 So this is Hot Wheels ID.
02:32 It's a way of integrating play in the real world
02:34 with play on a mobile phone.
02:36 For Automobile Magazine, I'm Billy Raybach.
