00:00 When he came into the shelter, there just wasn't a lot of information and there still
00:03 isn't now.
00:04 We are Ray and Amanda and this is our story for GeoBeats.
00:09 Want to go run around in the grass?
00:11 We don't know a lot about what his genetic disorder is.
00:15 I love you.
00:18 He was rescued by a purposeful rescue and ultimately it was meant to be that he was
00:22 to come to us.
00:24 You look at his face and he just always looks like he's smiling.
00:27 Good morning.
00:28 He can't walk and he can't get up for himself.
00:32 His tongue does not leave his mouth and he has an overcrowding of teeth.
00:36 It doesn't allow him to eat like a normal dog.
00:39 We decided that it's easier to sit him up, put him in a bin and feed him with a spoon
00:44 like a baby.
00:45 One of our favorite times was when my wife's dad came down to visit and he fed Mom.
00:51 We've been very lucky with our family always supporting our dog adventures.
01:00 If you think that because he can't walk that he's just kind of sitting or laying in a corner,
01:05 that's not the case.
01:06 He wants to be everywhere that I go.
01:09 The best part of special needs dogs is they acclimate.
01:13 They do find their way.
01:14 If the other dogs are playing, he has adjusted to playing with them, allowing them to play
01:21 around him.
01:23 He communicates in his ways.
01:26 I'll be right back.
01:28 When he is trying to be affectionate with me, if I have my hands or fingers resting
01:34 near his face, he will gently nibble on my fingertips.
01:38 Are you going to give me some nibbles?
01:40 He wants to be a part of every single thing.
01:42 He'll make noise if he feels like he's left out.
01:45 He can't say a word, but look at what he can do.
01:48 Over the last 18 months, I myself was diagnosed with an autoimmune muscle disease and I've
01:54 become disabled.
01:55 Marv saved me in that way.
01:57 Can't wait to move you over.
01:58 I had realized a lot of my own physical limitations and Marv and I can relate to that.
02:03 We sit together on the couch.
02:05 I talk to him like he's a person and I hold him and we understand each other.
02:09 Is that better?
02:10 Marv gets what Marv wants.
02:13 Look at this face.
02:14 Would you accept any less?
02:15 If we're going to be gone anywhere, we make arrangements for him as if he is our child.
02:21 Marv!
02:22 What are you doing?
02:26 He just fills your soul and makes you feel needed and everybody wants to feel needed.
02:30 This is his magic sleep button.
02:32 That's it?
02:33 We have taken him to a couple different vets in addition to the vets that he had seen through
02:38 the rescue before us and each of those has told us that they don't believe that he is
02:42 in pain.
02:43 And then I stop and he'll wake up.
02:45 This dog makes me smile.
02:46 We all need happier things to talk about, right?
02:49 There's just not enough of that and here's this little dog.
02:51 You know, that's pretty awesome.
02:53 Different is not bad.
02:55 Different is not broken.
02:56 Different is beautiful.
