'Greed' in the way of climate action says US climate envoy John Kirby

US climate envoy John Kerry says greed is the biggest impediment to climate action. Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, he also called the building and funding of coal power plants "irresponsible." Kerry is visiting the city-state from November 10 to 12 to advance US objectives on climate and clean energy and speak at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, the State Department said.

00:09 the numbers of people who have pressured some of the oil and gas companies because they
00:13 weren't doing as well as the ones that weren't doing stuff on the climate.
00:17 Look at the pressure.
00:18 A bunch of asset owners and managers in New York and elsewhere in the world have been
00:23 under to make more money.
00:26 So put it down to greed.
00:28 G-R-E-E-D.
00:29 It is irresponsible to be funding or building a coal-fired power plant anywhere in the world.
00:35 And who is allowed to get away with doing that when it is not the only option for what
00:39 we could be doing?
00:41 So we've got to get serious here.
00:43 I mean, I am really up to here with the business as usual that is pervading places all around
00:48 the world, including sometimes even in my country.
00:51 And I understand that.
00:52 I learned after 30 years in the U.S. Senate and voting for some of our clean energy projects
00:57 in the United States, there's no such thing as clean coal.
01:00 It's not about to happen.
01:01 So we really have to move forward on the coal front.
