00:15 Litterbug, litterbug, shame on you.
00:18 Look at the terrible things you do.
00:20 Littering, cluttering every place.
00:23 Why, but it's disgraceful.
00:25 Litterbug, litterbug, where's your pride?
00:28 Making a mess of the countryside.
00:30 Spoiling and spoiling each lovely view.
00:33 Shame, oh shame on you.
00:35 It really makes one wonder what kind of house you keep.
00:40 On every tour the world is your personal garbage heap.
00:44 You fabulous litterbug, litterbug, don't you care?
00:48 People must follow you everywhere.
00:50 Cleaning up places that you've gone to.
00:53 Litterbug, oh shame on you.
00:57 In the war that we wage against pests,
01:01 modern science, of course, never rests.
01:05 The mosquito, we are told, now is largely controlled through oil.
01:11 Sprayed on swamps it infests.
01:14 The boll weevil, relentlessly lusting,
01:18 succumbs to a chemical dusting.
01:21 And where the termite carouses,
01:23 we fumigate houses with gases it finds most disgusting.
01:29 Still, we have no cause to be smug.
01:33 We've invented no poison nor drug
01:37 to settle the score with one pest we abhor
01:41 and contemptibly call litterbug.
01:45 This strange wingless pest we berate
01:48 was unwisely endowed its one trait.
01:52 With claw-like transmitters, it holds, tears, and litters.
01:59 On weekends, three times its own weight.
02:03 Of their habits, this much science knows.
02:07 They stay dormant through seasons of snows,
02:10 behind walls that are thick, made of wood or of brick,
02:15 in their nests built in parallel rows.
02:20 [music]
02:23 They emerge in great numbers in spring
02:26 and at once start to scamper and sing.
02:30 They take pride in their labors,
02:32 competing with neighbors engaged in the very same thing.
02:38 Although proudly, each strives to maintain an immaculate private domain,
02:44 why each one another throws trash on its brother is a paradox none can explain.
02:52 Now, as to the types of litterbugs,
02:56 most common, the unconscious carrier.
03:02 Uses the drop or the pop and drop.
03:08 It possesses no brain for a barrier.
03:11 And when virus inflicts, its litter is carelessly tossed.
03:18 And when tobacco addicted, its trail is not easily lost.
03:24 [music]
03:31 The sports bug.
03:33 Flamboyant and raiment is always loaded for littering entertainment.
03:38 Drop kicking.
03:44 A well placed bunt.
03:49 Drives that are clicking.
03:52 A javelin stunt.
03:55 Ouch! A poor litter man.
03:57 Now the sneak bug is a, is a sneak.
04:03 Methods polished to perfection.
04:06 So smooth in technique they defy human detection.
04:11 Well, it's impossible to follow the sleight of hand action
04:15 unless we slow down that action a fraction.
04:19 [music]
04:36 The young are harmless, lovable creatures
04:39 till their inborn instincts appear and they show their obnoxious features.
04:44 Though receiving no formal training, they achieve amazing results.
04:49 Constantly striving and straining to be as objectionable as the adults.
04:56 [music]
04:58 Summertime is migration time.
05:00 And litter bugs swarm in veritable legions.
05:03 Thousands upon thousands moving on to other regions.
05:08 [music]
05:14 Oh, a frightening experience to be caught in their path.
05:18 The swarm consists of two species, so science teaches.
05:22 One plagues mountains, the other infests beaches.
05:28 The beach bug is attracted by the sparkling white sands and oceans glittering.
05:34 And here it indulges in its favorite pastimes.
05:40 Eating and littering.
05:46 Beach bugs are not nocturnal.
05:48 At sundown they instinctively return to their habitations.
05:52 Archaeologists have unearthed these evidences of previous migrations.
05:57 [music]
06:05 The mountain bug is drawn to woodland splendor where nature is at her best.
06:13 Here it establishes a temporary nest.
06:17 In the crisp mountain air its appetite is far from retarded.
06:21 It eats anything from containers that can be easily discarded.
06:29 Litter bug.
06:30 Litter bug.
06:32 Litter bug.
06:34 Litter bug, shame on you.
06:37 Look at the terrible things you do.
06:39 Littering, fluttering every place.
06:42 My, what a disgraceful.
06:44 Litter bug, litter bug, where's your pride?
06:47 Making a mess of the countryside.
06:49 Spoiling and soiling each lovely view.
06:51 Shame, oh shame on you.
06:54 It really makes one wonder what kind of house you keep.
06:59 On every tour the world is your personal garbage heap.
07:03 You've got less litter bug, litter bug, don't you care?
07:07 People must follow you everywhere.
07:09 Cleaning up places that you've gone to.
07:12 Litter bug, shame on you.
07:14 Litter bug, shame on you.
07:17 Litter bug, oh shame on you.
