01:42 125 abs was added to the mix I think exactly around

01:47 2019 model year as well and then the fourth addition to the American Honda mini moto

01:55 model lineup was the Honda trail which was introduced last year for the

02:08 Honda Navi now this Honda Navi is positioned as a

02:14 hybrid between a traditional street bike and a scooter it is designed for

02:22 someone who wants to experience the excitement and ease of use of a

02:30 motorcycle but in a much more friendly way

02:36 ease of use and low operating cost were the primary

02:41 motivating factors in

02:44 engineering this

02:46 vehicle now compared to the Honda grom which rings at

02:52 rings in at

02:54 $3,400 $3,600 if you want ABS this bike is only

02:58 $1,800 it is literally half the cost of a grom ABS

03:37 I believe that scooter is actually not imported in the United States, but it is a

03:49 Powers this vehicle it is of undersquare design meaning the piston stroke

03:55 measures greater than the piston bore

04:04 what powers this vehicle instead of

04:11 Transmission this vehicle is endowed with a CVT

04:16 automatic transmission so a transmission just like a scooter you twist the throttle and

04:31 Instead of a clutch lever we have this

04:34 Cable actuated parking brake which is used to keep the vehicle

04:41 Positioned at a standstill when parking on an incline or decline

04:47 On the right side of this steel handlebar. We have a traditional

04:56 throttle twist tube throttle and we have a traditional cable

05:08 Cable actuated doesn't benefit from a high dump hydraulic actuation and it moves

05:17 Mechanism so this vehicle is not equipped with disc brakes

05:21 It has old style drum brakes and the reason why it has old style drum brakes is to keep the MSRP

05:35 So if you want more high spec components definitely go with a Grom or a Monkey if

05:56 the left hand side of the switch where we operate the turn signals the horn and

06:06 The choke lever operates the carburetor

06:09 So when you start this motorcycle you can give it a little bit of choke which helps it fire

06:17 Yes, that's right. This vehicle is not

06:23 With fuel injection it has a carburetor

06:27 Again, the use of a carburetor was to facilitate a low

06:37 It's crazy that a new

06:42 America with a carburetor these days

07:22 Am actually pretty impressed with this thing this engine has a good amount of torque

07:26 Like it gets off the stoplight very well. We're already going 25 miles per hour

07:32 and

07:34 The CVT transmission it just feels like it has one

07:39 Never-ending gear just one never-ending gear. There's no perky jerkiness

07:45 There's no jerkiness of changing gears. It's just one

07:48 never-ending speed

07:50 Very easy very smooth

07:52 Really like how little vibration are is felt through the controls

08:00 I feel just a hint of vibration through the handlebar and the foot pegs just a hint

08:06 But overall it's a pretty smooth experience

08:11 This Honda Navi rolls on a 12 inch front and a 10 inch rear tire

08:18 We talked about the brakes. We have drum brakes front and rear

08:22 The rear brake is actuated by a conventional

08:26 motorcycle motorcycle style

08:30 shift pedal that is actuated by the

08:34 right

08:36 Foot so you press down on your foot on that lever and that?

08:41 engages the rear brake

08:44 now when you're operating a

08:48 Motorcycle it is always best to use the front and rear brake

08:55 together

08:58 realistically

09:00 90% of your actual stopping power on the road is going to be facilitated by the front brake

09:06 But the rear brake is a handy tool

09:10 to use to help shorten stopping distance and

09:15 give you

09:18 Important vehicle control rear brakes almost an advanced riding technique will proper rear brake

09:26 Actual application which we will probably get into in the next video that would be really good to talk about advanced riding techniques

09:33 how to overlap controls how to properly use your rear brake a

09:40 But it's also nice to use in the beginners hands because it helps give the vehicle a little bit more control you can

09:51 Help use that shock and keep it from being so fast

09:56 When you use a little rear brake because it just allows the rear of the vehicle to squat ever slow slightly

10:05 Now we have a traditional

10:09 Ignition key this ignition key also allows us to access the fuel tank which is positioned

10:16 Right here in a conventional

10:20 Motorcycle place to fuel up the vehicle. There's also a neat storage compartment

10:27 beneath the motorcycle

10:30 Which is kept under lock and key that's used by this

10:34 Ignition key here and we can store a bunch of goodies inside. We're going to show you that that

10:41 locked box here in a little bit

10:46 But this vehicle

10:49 realistically is

10:51 designed for just urban folks who want a

10:54 functional form of transportation

10:57 Around town you're not gonna be riding this vehicle on the highway you could

11:03 Obviously you cannot operate it on

11:06 the interstate

11:09 Freeway system here in the Golden State you have to have a vehicle with an engine displacement

11:14 greater than

11:16 150 CC to operate on a California interstate highway

11:22 but

11:25 Realistically even with that size engine that's too small for

11:28 California freeways these days in the post-covid area everyone drives 90 miles per hour down here in Southern, California

11:35 So you're gonna need a lot bigger engine to keep up with traffic down here

11:39 But you could legally operate this thing on a highway

11:42 There is no displacement restriction on that

11:47 That is mr. Mang chango himself Zach quartz mr. Mang chango

11:52 we call him mr. Mang chango because

11:56 we have an affinity for calling people Mang and

12:01 When we would go to Spain we would always like to eat Mang chango cheese for breakfast because in Spain they love

12:10 their jamón and

12:12 Cheese and bread for breakfast so man chango cheddar cheese Mang is what I call

12:29 alright folks we spoke about the wheel size and the

12:34 drum brakes front and rear this vehicle does not benefit from

12:42 Bs there is no anti-lock brakes on this vehicle that was done to keep the price down at

12:49 $1,800 to be fair

12:51 the

12:54 the

12:56 Input of both the front brake and the rear brake you really have to get on it to even

13:02 Have the brake even be capable of locking up and even if you did use the brake super aggressive

13:08 Aggressively just because the brakes don't have the sharp stopping performance of a disc setup

13:15 They are less prone to the lock up

13:19 right now I'm using the rear brake paddle at max and

13:23 The rear brake isn't even locking up so it slows down nicely, but not enough power to lock up the wheels

13:30 So even though this bike doesn't have ABS it almost kind of does just because the brake performance is so

13:38 modest that it doesn't have the force to

13:41 Stop the wheel and cause vehicle instability

13:46 So good job Honda great workaround for not having ABS nice

13:51 here we are passing a

13:54 $90,000 Porsche just showing how much capability this little bike actually has

14:03 Get out of my way the great thing about these twist and go

14:12 CVT style transmissions that come equipped on scooters is

14:19 That it really allows you to focus on

14:23 Just checking out the sights and sounds of

14:28 Your city or urban area

14:31 now there's really not much to look at here in the

14:35 urban confines of Costa Mesa, California

14:39 But if we were operating this vehicle on some city street near

14:44 Pacific Coast Highway near the ocean that would be awesome because we'd actually have

14:50 The mental capacity to check out the water check out the sands just because this vehicle

14:55 Doesn't require a lot of mental intensity to operate with its

15:01 lack of clutch and

15:03 modest engine

15:06 performance

15:08 All right, folks. Now we are traveling through the city of Irvine, California

15:13 Irvine, California is

15:16 Master plan community. I wouldn't necessarily call it master because master insinuates top-of-tier

15:25 And Irvine is not really top tier by any means but it is clean

15:29 organized with freshly paved roads that are wide and

15:35 When you're navigating through a city like this this Honda Navi scooter is a worthwhile

15:42 Companion it goes just fast enough to get you to your destination

15:47 Yet, it's super easy to ride

15:51 super easy to park and

15:54 With it achieving over a hundred miles per gallon of

16:00 Fuel

16:03 Consumption this thing does not break the bank if you're looking for an affordable

16:09 economical vehicle to get you to and from where you need to be this

16:16 $1,800 Honda Navi is a good solution if you're looking for something

16:22 That's really fun and really exciting to ride this Honda Navi is not that vehicle

16:29 This is practical around town

16:32 gas engine equipped

16:35 Transportation at its finest. All right, folks. Let's take out the mechanical key

16:40 I love mechanical key and there is the fuel

16:44 Storage cap right there capacity of this fuel tank is point nine

16:52 Gallon point nine gallon now. Let's go over here. This is the storage area for our

16:58 goodies

17:01 We have some waters and snacks in this bag a pretty generous

17:05 size storage compartment you can easily fit a six-pack of

17:10 Soda in there and some ice which I really like

17:16 Of course we have a kickstand

17:22 Which supports the vehicle right there? We also have a center stand

17:27 which we can actuate like that center stand if

17:32 The battery ever goes kaput we can actually start this vehicle with the kickstart lever

17:40 Here we go, oh

17:44 Yeah, turn the on button on

17:51 And there she goes now we are running so we don't even need a

17:55 Battery to start this vehicle just the kickstart lever

18:00 It's worth noting that this

18:03 Honda Navi is

18:06 manufactured out of Honda's Mexico factory the Mexico factory

18:11 Does the final assembly of this vehicle before it's imported into the United States of America?

18:18 All right, boys and girls. We are back aboard our

18:22 2022 Honda Navi

18:25 hybrid

18:26 street bike scooter

18:28 This vehicle has

18:32 Just over three inches of suspension up front and just under three inches out back

18:40 It delivers a pretty good ride quality to be fair. We are operating this

18:47 vehicle in the city of Irvine Irvine

18:50 Has better than average

18:52 infrastructure in Southern California and the paved road surfaces are in a

19:00 less dilapidated state than many other

19:04 cities within Southern California

19:06 And the suspension is delivering a very very adequate ride. This thing is a cozy little

19:16 around town go-getter

19:18 Now I stand

19:27 six feet tall I weigh

19:31 190 pounds and

19:34 this vehicle is

19:37 Well suited to my stature

19:42 I

19:44 Like that the one-piece seat has a lot of room to scoot back on

19:52 just like the

19:55 newly updated

19:58 2021

20:00 Honda Grom, I'm sorry

20:02 2022 on the Grom with its

20:04 more accurately molded one-piece seat

20:09 And I like that this handlebar has a nice gentle rise on it

20:15 My hands aren't absurdly low and they have a good

20:20 commanding stance of

20:22 This vehicle the rearview mirrors do a nice job of showing me

20:29 What is going on behind me? They don't vibrate very much

20:34 And it is very easy to keep tabs on the stuff that's behind me. Oh

20:40 There's a big bump

20:43 And the suspension soaks it up fairly. Well, of course this motorcycle is gonna have more pogo

20:49 Pogo II ish suspension, especially once you start racking up the miles on it

20:55 But for around town use it is just fine

20:59 I

21:01 All right folks we just got up to an

21:15 estimated top speed of right around 50 mph

21:20 50 miles per hour was our top speed on

21:25 This mostly straight road that has an ever so slight

21:30 Decline ever so slight

21:32 I know it as an ever so slight because I used to ride my road bike on this ride in riding this way

21:39 West toward the ocean was always a few percent easier because of the downward slope

21:46 All right, boys and girls now. This is the true test. We are going up a

21:52 relatively moderate incline

21:55 and this

21:57 107 CC air-cooled single has a good amount of torque

22:02 it's pulling us up this hill at 40 miles per hour with the throttle twisted to the maximum and

22:09 That is not bad at all for a little hilly urban test of this vehicle

22:16 All right, folks now we're doing the downhill test

22:19 We are going downhill with the throttle applied to the maximum and we are going 55 miles per hour down

22:26 Hills this vehicle is capable of that top speed

22:31 So in a flat line you can go 50 downhill 55

22:35 Not bad for a little urban

22:38 scooter street bike hybrid

22:42 Now we are going up another moderate incline

22:45 we are going to show you how these brakes on this bike work if we encounter a

22:51 red traffic light here, which we

22:54 Have not yet, but maybe we will and here we go with a red traffic light

23:00 Look how effective these brakes are you can use these brakes very aggressively

23:05 just because

23:07 They don't have an extreme amount of power to really stop that wheel

23:13 So you can use these brakes very hard without having to worry about

23:18 Wheel and tire lockup. It's almost like having ABS without having ABS

23:24 And away we go guys

23:28 Look this thing jumps off the line. We basically bested that

23:33 Mercedes

23:36 Gas power vehicle. So if you are not sleepy

23:42 When the light turns green you can definitely jump ahead of most

23:46 civilians in their automobiles

23:50 All right, boys and girls here. We are on the Balboa ferry that runs you from

23:57 Balboa Island here to the Newport Beach Peninsula

24:02 this is a fun ferry that's been running since the

24:08 1900s

24:10 30s 40s probably even before that and a great way to see the sights and sounds of

24:17 Newport Beach on our

24:21 2022

24:24 Honda Navi, which is perfectly suited to this type of lifestyle
