Here is why the Toyota Prius is MotorTrend's 2024 Car of the Year!

00:00 At our annual Car of the Year competition, we invited competitors from the likes of BMW,

00:08 Honda, Ford, Subaru, Toyota and Lucid to duel it out, but only one could win.

00:15 And so we are thrilled to announce that the winner of our 2024 Motor Trend Car of the

00:19 Year is none other than the Toyota Prius.

00:24 It beat out some stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the refreshed

00:28 Tesla Model 3 Highland, both very good cars, both great EVs, however.

00:33 Judged across our six criteria, there was no doubt in our minds this is the car that

00:38 deserved to win.

00:40 It came down to a few reasons.

00:42 The Prius Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid blend what we've always loved about the Prius,

00:47 value, efficiency and safety, with this generation's undeniable style and performance.

00:53 Because yeah, haven't you heard?

00:56 The Prius is cool now!

00:58 And quick too!

00:59 It's eye-catching, composed of great lines and covered in interesting details.

01:05 And as you'd expect from Toyota, it's got a fantastically functional interior.

01:10 And with prices ranging from just under $29,000 up to around $40,000, you're going to have

01:18 plenty of options including this, a Plug-in Hybrid, with over 45 miles of electric-only

01:23 range.

01:24 It's very fitting that the Prius won our 2024 Motor Trend Car of the Year because,

01:29 20 years ago, a Prius did just that for our 2004 award.

01:34 It's taken great strides forward since then, but it still remains the gold standard of

01:38 hybrids.
