New axe throwing club in Gosport

00:00 This is Joe Bunkle reporting for the Portsmouth News and I'm here in Gosport.

00:04 We're at Downrange Axe Throwing to have a go at throwing some axes,

00:07 knives and anything else that I can get my hands on. Let's see how it goes.

00:12 Keep safe, just don't throw it backwards.

00:38 I was very excited to give it a go and after some practice and some help from the team at Downrange,

00:44 I eventually started to hit the target.

00:46 Oh there you go.

01:06 I really wanted to open up something that isn't in this part of Hampshire.

01:11 We've got one in Southampton, that's about 30 miles from us.

01:14 One's just opened up in Brighton on the other side but we haven't got anything

01:17 in the middle. It was a couple of ideas first with the axe throwing as a back bit but actually

01:26 as we more thought about it and we looked into it, we thought the axe throwing would be on its own

01:32 as a standalone project, much better. Great and what is it that you love about axe throwing?

01:37 I think everyone just enjoys throwing something they shouldn't if I'm being completely honest

01:42 and realising actually after your first throw it's not going to come back and hurt you

01:46 and I think as soon as you realise that it's just a good time throwing an axe.

01:52 Great and I know that there's been some people coming down to try it out the past couple of days.

01:58 What sort of feedback have you had so far? Yes we've had all the local businesses around

02:02 Gosport come down and have a look and they've absolutely loved it. We've had the lads from

02:06 the sweet shop around the corner, they've made their TikToks and yeah everyone come down and

02:11 really loved it. All posted on social media for us. It's been a brilliant reception.

02:16 Fantastic and I know that for an extra fee you can throw axes at your enemies essentially so

02:23 would you mind telling me a little bit about that? Yeah so what we do in store if you want to

02:27 come down for an extra pound you can print out a picture of an ex, you don't like your boss,

02:34 your mother-in-law, there are a few rules but yeah so you come down and have a you know

02:43 someone you don't like. If you want to do a zombie we can put it on the target for you.
