00:00 going to enjoy and watch you boys regain the trophy once again.
00:05 India will face Australia in the final.
00:08 Who according to you is slightly ahead?
00:11 It will be a good final primarily because Australia has a very competitive side but
00:16 the way the Indian boys have played, they look invincible.
00:19 Yes, there is always this little bit of apprehension that they have not had a bad game as yet but
00:26 it is no hard and fast rule that some team should have a bad game in a campaign during
00:31 the World Cup.
00:32 They can always make it 11 out of 11.
00:35 There is nothing to say that you can't do that.
00:39 And given the way every piece has fallen into place as far as Team India is concerned, it
00:45 has been terrific.
00:46 There were some doubts about the entire team before the start of the Asia Cup.
00:50 We were all wondering, a lot of talk about what is going to happen to this team, what
00:54 is it that they can do.
00:55 They don't look really settled but gradually every piece of the puzzle has fallen into
01:00 place and even there was doubt about Rahul, there was doubt about Shreyas Iyer because
01:06 fitness is not because of their form.
01:09 So all of those things have absolutely evaporated and with every passing match, every component
01:18 of the side is putting its hand up and saying, "Yes, I am there, don't worry."
01:24 And all of them have contributed.
01:25 It has not been restricted to just two or three guys.
01:28 Normally in a campaign you see two or three guys perform better than the rest but here
01:32 if you look at it, Roj Sharma is obviously leading the way with that explosive batting
01:38 at the top of the order and Shubman Gill is obviously not far behind.
01:42 He is also doing what he needs to do.
01:44 And then of course Virat has always been a consistent batter for India.
01:48 The best part is that Shreyas Iyer is in top nick.
01:53 We all were celebrating Virat's 50th 100 but Shreyas Iyer's 100 in no time.
02:00 It should not be overlooked as well.
02:02 As far as bowling is concerned, I can't remember a bowling attack apart from 1985 when we won
02:08 the WCC Championships in Australia.
02:10 I can't remember.
02:14 And let's not also forget the 2019 campaign.
02:17 I think that's a one World Cup where we bowled out everybody.
02:22 That's another campaign where the bowlers have done well.
02:24 And after that I think we have done extraordinarily well here.
02:28 Not 2019, I think it's 2015.
02:31 We have done well.
02:32 So even the bowling unit is doing really well.
02:34 So it's fantastic.
02:36 Now this is a side which hardly has any kind of gap in it if you look at it.
02:46 You look at it in any department.
02:47 Now Kiel Rahul, for somebody who is just not considered as a regular keeper, full-time
02:54 keeper, the catches that he's taken has been phenomenal to watch.
02:58 And if you have something like that happening in a side, then I think that side is very
03:03 difficult to beat.
03:04 We have played in the 2007 World Cup under Rabir's captaincy.
03:09 Now he is the coach.
03:11 And what is the difference between that time and this time?
03:19 16 years of difference.
03:20 A lot of things have changed.
03:21 A lot of things were obviously different then.
03:28 It unfortunately is something which will always be discussed, the 2007 World Cup.
03:33 But it's nobody's fault.
03:35 Sometimes like I said some time ago that everything has fallen into place.
03:39 That time nothing fell into place.
03:41 So that's the reason that campaign was not as good as we would have expected it to be.
03:45 But of course this is what is the beauty about sport.
03:49 When you think things have to happen and they don't.
03:52 When you least expect everything will fall into place.
03:55 And the important thing here is it's not something where we can just say yes, everything is great
04:01 now.
04:02 I hope and I sincerely pray that everything stays in place on the day it matters for Team
04:08 India and I can only say that we are more realistic to think that India can win this
04:15 World Cup as against hope because the brand of cricket that they played, the quality of
04:20 cricket that they played and the approach that they have taken has been fantastic.
04:25 You have been with the Bengal team for many years and you have seen Mohamed Sami's growth.
04:31 And there is always comparison between Bumrah and Sami.
04:35 What about Mohamed Sami, what's your take?
04:39 It's always not a great thing to compare bowlers because everybody has his own style.
04:46 Bumrah is a different kind of bowler compared when you are talking about Bumrah alongside
04:52 Sami because Sami is more of a seam bowler who has a fantastic wrist position.
04:59 Bumrah is more of a guy who has a unique action and he can surprise you with different variations
05:07 because of his control.
05:10 It's been proven that there is a place for everybody on the same side and if they play
05:14 together we have seen the kind of damage that they can do to the opposition side.
05:20 So India should consider itself lucky that they have been having some terrific bowlers
05:25 in this line-up in the recent times.
05:27 Captaincy is also important because no matter how good a side you have, somebody needs to
05:33 handle that side, especially the captain who is the one who is expected to handle that
05:38 side.
05:39 And Roy Sharma has done a grand job in not only being the guy who is leading the team
05:45 from the front in terms of approach, in terms of taking the attack into the opposition camp,
05:51 but he has also handled a highly talented side really well.
05:56 And as I said some time ago, given the things that were going on, that were being discussed
06:02 about before the Asia Cup, to try and keep them together and to change the way this team
06:08 is playing is fantastic.
06:11 Is it the fact that Virat Kohli is batting fluently because he is not the captain right
06:16 now, because there is pressure of captaincy?
06:18 Virat Kohli, like all of us, is a human being.
06:23 He is not a machine.
06:26 In a career which is spanning over a decade and a half, there will be some ups and downs.
06:32 The only thing is that the standards that he has set, perhaps makes us think if he gets
06:36 a 60-70 it's a failure.
06:39 So that is something, perhaps you can say it's his own fault because of the high standards
06:44 that he has set.
06:45 So otherwise I don't think it's mattered to him being the captain because not that he
06:52 stopped getting runs when he was the captain.
06:54 He was getting runs, he was getting by the tons.
06:59 So I don't think necessarily.
07:00 It's just that sometimes you always are too particular or too curious, too eager to try
07:07 and connect dots when there are no dots.
07:10 You have seen many sides in the World Cup, Indian sides.
07:16 This current squad, is it a little ahead of previous editions?
07:22 Again, you can't compare sides of different generations because the challenges are different.
07:28 The situations might have been different in terms of the way they could prepare, in terms
07:33 of the way that the combination could be made.
07:37 So there are a lot of things that come into play when a squad is picked and especially
07:43 if you are talking about a squad in different decades, there are a lot of factors that could
07:47 be different and it's only unfair.
07:50 But as far as a team playing in a bossy manner, I think this has perhaps played the best.
08:02 What about Australia in final?
08:04 Because is it tough for India?
08:07 You want it to be tough, isn't it?
08:09 Because if you want to be the world champion, you want to be the best in the business.
08:13 And I'm sure that is what even Team India would be wanting, to play the best in the
08:18 business and then tell them, "Okay boys, you had a good game, but anyway, you were too
08:22 good."
08:23 What's your message for Team India ahead of the Mega Final?
08:26 No message, I'm just going to enjoy and watch you boys regain the trophy once again.
