Steelers' Cam Heyward Believes Defensive Players Deserve MVP Consideration

Pittsburgh Steelers' captain Cameron Heyward believes defensive players deserve serious consideration for the NFL MVP Award.

00:27 >> Cam, I know you stress important to every game, these two games,

00:30 the big games.

00:31 Do you stress how important those are for potential postseason?

00:36 >> AFC North is always important.

00:39 You never want to shy away from those games.

00:40 You can sit over here and talk about AFC, AFC.

00:45 But when it comes to AFC North, it means so much more.

00:48 It comes down to a couple of possessions here and there that can change a game.

00:54 I know when we play Baltimore, it's usually three points.

00:57 But anytime we're in these type of games, it really does come down to a lot.

01:01 >> It also, you depend on the division standings too.

01:04 >> Yeah.

01:04 >> Not only that, it's with a win.

01:06 >> If you can gain a standings, especially in your division,

01:12 man, it definitely does wonders going forward.

01:14 And you can't shy away from it.

01:17 >> Cam, it's been more than 40 years since a defensive guy has won the NFL MVP,

01:22 the League MVP award.

01:23 Why do you think it's so hard for defensive guys to get that award?

01:27 >> Because the media only wants to see the points scored.

01:31 There's plenty of defenders that are deserving of it.

01:35 Throughout the years, I think we've just almost made the MVP award,

01:39 the offense award, because it's pretty, it's cool when you score points.

01:42 I think we shy away from defense perfection.

01:50 We shy away from sacks.

01:51 We shy away from tackles, draws, interceptions.

01:54 That's cool for us, especially for us, but I don't know to the common viewer or

01:59 a media person that they really wanna talk about that.

02:02 You guys wanna talk about defense all the time?

02:04 >> We do.

02:05 >> Now you're in Pittsburgh.

02:07 >> We're in Pittsburgh.

02:09 >> But I think a lot of times it gets hidden behind.

02:13 There are a lot of great athletes and a lot of great offensive players.

02:16 But I would definitely love to see some more defensive MVPs.
