00:04 >> All right, questions for Desante.
00:06 >> Desante, you guys had really good pace today, got to the free throw line a lot,
00:10 but shots really weren't falling.
00:11 What worked well and what didn't work so well on offense today?
00:14 >> I think we started off aggressive trying to get to the basket early.
00:19 I think that was one of the big things for us.
00:21 And then obviously later in the game, our threes still weren't falling really.
00:25 So I think sticking with the aggressive mindset,
00:27 we got into the bonus pretty early, so I think that's what worked well.
00:30 Obviously, we didn't make as many free throws as we usually do, but
00:34 just being able to be in a bonus so
00:35 they can't play as aggressive as they want to was helpful for us.
00:38 >> Desante, the team as a whole kind of struggled from the field tonight, but
00:42 you shot well, I think, four or five from the field and
00:44 then nine of nine from the free throw line.
00:47 What was working for you?
00:47 >> Just staying aggressive, coming out early.
00:51 I tried to get to the basket early, working my way inside out, and
00:54 then it was working.
00:55 So I just kept going inside and drawing contact and getting fouls.
00:58 But we got a very, very deep team, so it could be anyone's night on any occasion.
01:02 So tonight happened to be me and Ben and Josh Dix, and we stepped up for it.
01:07 >> Have you been able to balance, I guess, just staying aggressive, but
01:11 also making sure you're in control and not making bad decisions?
01:16 >> It comes with, I swear I'm looking for, just over time, I guess, experience.
01:23 Obviously, last year, that was one of the things I had to focus on.
01:26 So being kind of a veteran guy this year,
01:28 that's something that's starting to come to me.
01:31 So obviously, every game I'm not gonna be able to have maybe 15 points or
01:35 something like that.
01:36 But if I'm getting guys going and getting my guys open,
01:38 looks like a successful game to me as well.
01:40 >> Ben said something about the energy not quite being there to start tonight.
01:44 I know it was a slow start, just kind of a tough game overall.
01:47 But what do you think about that and
01:52 what was the cause of that lack of energy?
01:58 >> I don't really know exactly.
01:59 I mean, maybe fatigue.
02:01 We had a tough one at Creighton a few days ago, and
02:03 then we got straight into prep for this game.
02:04 But it's a long season and we play a tough schedule.
02:07 So I mean, I like how we were still able to battle.
02:10 Not looking at the name of the school, they got some good players over there and
02:15 they tried to battle us and we responded.
02:17 So I mean, it was a gritty win, but we won.
02:20 >> What's France message for you guys on the backboard,
02:24 especially defensive class?
02:26 >> Yeah, that was one of our keys today too.
02:28 We obviously didn't rebound that well tonight.
02:31 And I think throughout the season we've been rebounding decently.
02:34 So this was one of our lower rebounding nights and
02:36 that was something obviously none of us was too happy about.
02:39 But I mean, going forward, I think we'll still try to be aggressive,
02:43 a little more aggressive on the glass, get some guards on there.
02:46 But we also got to get back on defense too.
02:47 So that's something we'll probably work on these next couple of days.
02:50 >> What do you remember when Ben first got here?
02:54 What all do you remember?
02:57 >> I mean, he's the same guy.
02:58 He's a chill guy.
03:00 He's the same every day.
03:02 Knocked down his mid range.
03:03 He's a dog on the rebounds.
03:05 And then he's a great, great player overall.
03:10 He makes good decisions and we trust him out there.
03:12 >> I feel you can learn from a game like this where, from an outsider's perspective,
03:18 it may be tough when you have to grind out the wind, when you don't shoot it that well.
03:22 How can you learn from a game like this where you still win?
03:25 >> This is a perfect game to learn.
03:26 That's obviously we're gonna run into that later on in the season,
03:29 especially when we get into Big Ten play.
03:31 I mean, obviously they may not have been exactly as talented as a Big Ten team
03:35 that we're gonna play, but they had the grit and a lot of their players are like
03:39 the 6'2" to 6'4" range and that's something we'll run into a lot throughout league play.
03:44 So I think having this as one of our last games before we really get into those
03:49 bigger games, I think this was very helpful.
03:51 >> The defense passed Pepper tonight 11 steals, they gained blocks.
03:55 What do you attribute that to?
03:58 >> Just staying locked in.
03:59 I mean, we had to go out, maybe let a few people score a little more than we would
04:02 have liked to, but I think we got some things to work on, but
04:05 we also, we did a lot of good things out there as well.
04:09 >> All right, thanks.
04:10 >> Thanks.
04:10 >> Yep.
04:11 - Yep.
