00:00 Free solo climbing is the art of climbing without a rope.
00:07 But I wanted to take it a step even further, when you remove shoes from the equation.
00:14 I just thought it would be very interesting to do something barefoot.
00:20 And so I decided the most fitting challenge would be to free solo the southeast gully of Point John with bare feet.
00:27 I thought it was ridiculous. I totally did not get that.
00:33 Why do you want to do this? What do you want in life? And you name those things, you know.
00:37 Whether I fail at becoming any of them, that's fine.
00:40 At least I can be clear with myself of what I want to work towards.
00:44 If I failed, at least I know I tried.
00:54 Mount Kenya is a very serious environment. People die on Mount Kenya every single year.
00:59 I've had multiple occasions where things have just, where I've come so close.
01:06 I think I'll sleep a lot better once this is over.
01:13 I was under the assumption that there would be ropes involved.
01:18 But no, free soloing is not racing climbing the world, it's racing climbing without ropes.
01:24 Having that instinct, let me call it instinct, to know how to deal with dangerous situations or how not to get into them in the first place.
01:38 And when he is in tune with his intuition, when he is in the flow, I believe that he is out of danger.
