00:00 okay gents if I had your instructions remember obey my commands at all time defend yourselves
00:05 at all time god bless touch them well this one could be a cracker the winner fights for the
00:10 world title two men who look to come forward and meet their opponent head on dog bay has
00:15 the experience he's a former world champion at super bantamweight and fought for the WBO featherweight
00:21 title in his last fight balls on the roll a man with real momentum real confidence and a growing
00:27 reputation richie indeed very explosive isn't he he's bought against a mirror image really
00:35 considering his opponent he's very similar in height and is an explosive puncher himself
00:41 an example of that right then downstairs so yes this one should be a cracker the big question is
00:49 how much does dog bay have left the difference in experience is stark and ball already looking
00:55 to get to work and land solid shots dog very happy to cover up and take those punches dog
01:01 base for 184 rounds as a professional compared to 78 football he's been the 12 round distance
01:07 five times and five world title fights prior to tonight have been in some excellent high profile
01:13 contests it's the night i think we find out so much more about what's inside nick falls
01:19 i think you're right fletch the punch that will be important here for nick ball tonight will be
01:24 his job actually to try and open his opponents up dog bay very experienced starting this contest
01:30 high guard there's not a lot getting through you see they're hitting the arms hitting the gloves
01:34 he's been around the block a few times this fella and he knows he's way around the ring
01:39 so the jab for nick ball to prize open this guard and get to his man that may be crucial
01:45 these are heavy shots in the early round from nick ball a lot of them being taken on the arms and
01:52 the gloves of isaac dog they just lands tries to land a couple of his own there in this opening round
01:59 both of them short in stature but extremely solid individuals that
02:12 put together well the pair of them richie aren't they yes indeed
02:19 again there's some good shots going in from ball couple got through
02:22 dog bay like i've said fletch experienced and blocking a lot of these shots he's the kind of
02:30 man nick ball who throws circle shots in the first round in the mid rounds he's still throwing them
02:34 and when you get the later rounds he's still got the power to hurt you never loses it does he during
02:39 the fight stays relaxed throughout the contest i think just sheer sheer volume of punches in this
02:48 round he's had the better of it to now anyway ball's doing the aggressive with that high guard
02:54 is serving dog bay well in there at the moment tucking his arms by his sides where ball goes
03:00 to the body and keeping those gloves tight but he targets the head
03:07 he's showing his talent there as well ball just switches to morphodox to save ball
03:11 he operates quit quite well as a safe board but just got caught there the feet cross
03:15 he got caught in the right hand dog make a combination now hurtful shots that he was landing
03:22 and there's the bell to end the first round and both of them just laying down a marker
03:29 against the other one there at the first how does he have time to visit everyone in one night
03:42 well he has vip parking and how does he know if i've been naughty or nice he sees everything
03:51 everything let me guess he's got lots of storage too and that's how he does it the electric bmw
04:01 road home sales event is on now lease the 2024 bmw i5 you drive 40 for 719 per month now through
04:07 november 30th hey what if kinnick insurance is scary with every challenge she said this is a
04:14 fight where the toughest man will survive dog bay lost his last fight a challenge for the wbo
04:20 featherweight title in april against the two-time olympic champion roberto ramirez on points he was
04:27 down in the 12th and that one but he's operated to the top level for a long time now and he was
04:34 always in that bike ledge against robson ramirez for the olympic champion um so yes no no disgrace
04:42 in losing that one i've said before he's only lost world title fight so he knows what he's doing
04:49 it's really with the likes of emmanuel navarrete twice a memorable battle with jesse magdaleno
04:54 it's just a case of how much he's got left dog he's only 29 27 fights three defeats
05:02 richie's mentioned and nick ball is very much a young man on the rise
05:07 a little bit of a more faster start from dog bay in this round and that's um
05:14 just made ball work a little bit harder also
05:18 good solid work by ball in there is cornerman paul stevenson we say between rounds is a good
05:27 start you've taken control early keep doing what you're doing and he's been very accurate with
05:32 these shots so far he's needed that tight defense hasn't he dog mate he has indeed but at the same
05:37 time balls working well in terms of volume of punches changes from orthodox to southport
05:43 occasionally got to watch that don't let you in against a man who knows what he's doing
05:48 and will watch out for that switch and maybe try and catch him if his legs cross
05:52 ball finds himself in a corner
05:57 don't play trying to land that long right hand that just missed
06:08 it's a good shot by nick ball he was just slightly off balance there dog just
06:12 wondered if he was gonna wilt under the pressure but he just got his feet crossed a little bit
06:16 sensible there from ball switch from side four to orthodox he didn't go backwards
06:27 rather than coming forward and letting the feet cross
06:33 body shot from dog inside the final minute of the second round this is for the wbc silver
06:39 belt but it's more significantly a final eliminator for the wbc featherweight title
06:45 ray vargas is the champion but he's been operating at super feather
06:49 interesting this early stuff from ball on that front foot has literally taken the contest
07:01 to dog bay and making him exchange so he's actually making dog bay work here
07:06 dog bay quite content just to sit back with a high guard but ball's been coming more and more
07:13 forward in this round and putting it on him just catching dog bay high on top of his head
07:19 and another decent round here for ball started well
07:22 both of them loading good shot by dog bay balls legs were wobbled that's a really good shot by
07:30 dog bay right at the end of that round and i just thought for a second there the balls legs
07:36 buckled a little bit yeah he was cool with a tremendous i think was the left hook what a
07:40 belting shot that was so i just reminded ball that he's in a fight here that was that was good stuff
07:45 at the end of the round let's have a look it's a left hook there right hand i'm sure another left
07:50 hook comes in just here there's the shot there so a belting shot that is and yes nick ball maybe
07:58 he's off balance i don't know let's have a look at it here let's give dog bay credit yes that's a
08:02 that's a belting shot yes he is leaning back and his legs just go momentarily there
08:07 good punch there from dog bay well that's the best punch of the fight from either of them so far
08:16 credit to nick ball for taking it as well as he did and interestingly he spent the entire minute
08:22 between rounds standing in the corner didn't feel the need to sit down he's clearly recovered nice
08:27 and quickly and he's out for work here at the start of the third this is just a warning though
08:33 that dog bay with all his experience and all his ability isn't just going to roll over in there
08:37 tonight no but ball like i said she's making dog bay exchange a little bit more now and dog actually
08:44 came forward and pushed ball back a little bit there with that left hook especially so it was
08:49 good work from dog bay will it be a similar tactic now from ball balls from the same place in
08:55 liverpool as former world champions paul hodkinson and john conte intends to be the next man to take
09:01 a world championship belt back to mercy side that was a shot over the top a right hand over the top
09:08 there dog bay complained it was sort towards the back of the head it might have been towards the
09:13 ear his left ear nevertheless he was troubled by that i think nick ball when he's in close range
09:23 here flex he's gotta watch out for the left hook from dog day that's the danger shot he really whips
09:29 it in good punches from ball look into the body dog bay behind that tight guard nick ball happy
09:37 to unload he'll keep punching all night firing in a double jab and then following it up with
09:44 the right hand as well nick ball good work from him relentless pressure from the man from liverpool
09:49 yeah it's good stuff from ball but doesn't want to get complacent don't pay
09:54 keeping that guard high again good work before excellent with that left hook
09:58 for looking to keep the pressure on looking to mix up the attacks to head and body has been very
10:06 accurate so far tonight really motivated for this one nick ball a great switch of attack that wasn't
10:13 it from ball went from the body and then the left uppercut through to the head wasn't too far away
10:18 excellent combination again from him ball is supremely fixed he'll stand toe to toe all night
10:24 if that's what he needs to do and he's trying to gradually break down isaac dog bay in there
10:30 bullies him into the corner shows his strength looks to unload looks to apply the pressure
10:35 and looks to prove that he's the man in there tonight dog bay made the fatal mistake there
10:40 flex of just showing the opponent that he was hurt by a shot it was a shot earlier it was a right hand
10:45 that got through the guard at dog bay and he just went back a little bit and that invited then ball
10:51 to come in and land another couple of big shots first signs there that dog bay was in trouble with
10:56 a couple of shots there 40 seconds to go in the third round body shots coming in from dog bay
11:03 whips in that left hook as well and then the right hand nick ball beckons in it both of them happy to
11:09 have the tear up in there ball goes through the gears again and dog play has to take a backward
11:13 step tremendous stuff isn't it it's that type of contest where you've got to watch what you do and
11:18 even when you're on the attack you keep your opponent on that back foot with these hard shots
11:23 dog face the time to come back as he came in right at the end of the round no knockdown and they
11:29 started a counter ringside that victor loveland said no and for the second round in succession
11:35 right at the end nick ball was caught unbelievable concentration right at the end
11:42 of the round there
11:44 no no he just fell over
11:46 yeah he wasn't nice and busy with the work what you're doing
11:48 he doesn't like it you know what i mean
11:50 let's have a look at here
11:52 as the southpaw misses the target there
11:54 just walks on there to that shot
11:56 so it wasn't really a punch on
11:58 on the chin wasn't it i think it was more of the shoulder
12:00 but i think because he's coming forward
12:02 but just misses so he's the southpaw
12:04 he misses with that left hand
12:06 and almost walked onto one
12:08 didn't quite
12:10 so no he didn't even hit his chin
12:12 you know it wasn't a count
12:14 hence why victor loveland
12:16 waited to count off
12:18 it was right on the spot to see it of course
12:20 good referee
12:22 it's the beauty of the replay
12:24 so everybody at home can see it
12:26 because in real time depending on the angle
12:28 difficult to spot this has been really good so far
12:30 the kind of fight that we expected it to be
12:32 fourth round and the first three have been all action
12:34 that indeed
12:36 for me
12:38 ball has taken these rounds
12:40 oh he's giving the knockout
12:44 interesting to see that one in one flesh
12:52 so a standing eight count for dogfight
12:54 nick ball straight back to work
12:56 the type of contest that you've got to concentrate
13:02 in this situation
13:04 you're in against a tough opponent
13:06 and ball
13:08 it's going all the way at the moment
13:10 but this dogbae is still dangerous
13:12 straight left hand by ball
13:18 really solid shot
13:20 bullies dogbae into the corner again
13:22 victor loveland dives in to split them up
13:26 nick ball desperate to get back at it
13:28 dogbae responds with a left hand of his own
13:30 fantastic fight to this point
13:32 richie
13:34 tremendous great shot from ball
13:36 left hook
13:38 second time in the contest where dogbae
13:40 has really felt the power of ball
13:42 you can actually physically see
13:44 in wilt from that shot
13:46 dogbae missing the
13:56 initial punch but then landed a body shot
13:58 ball then puts the punches together
14:02 that's been the one throwing punches
14:04 in bunches has he ball
14:06 single shots in the main from dogbae
14:08 short to mid range then ball really
14:10 is dangerous
14:12 look at that and a switch of attack
14:14 that's good work again from ball
14:16 going for the body then right hook
14:18 just a little dip of the knees at the end
14:20 of the attack from dogbae
14:22 certainly feeling it in there
14:24 ball is relentless isn't he
14:26 again got to work with the jab
14:28 keep pepper in that shot
14:30 to dogbae
14:32 keep him off balance keep making him think
14:34 50 seconds to go
14:38 in the 4, mick ball just slightly too
14:40 high with that one but straight back to work
14:42 again the one thing dogbae doesn't
14:44 want is to get trapped in a corner
14:46 mick ball keeps switching stances
14:50 body shot sets it off and then he
14:52 knife that uppercut between the guard
14:54 of dogbae great punch from ball
14:56 switch of attack wasn't it
14:58 for the body then that right uppercut
15:00 referee not happy though
15:02 with the wrestling and mick ball
15:04 crowd inside the manchester
15:08 arena not happy that victor lachlan
15:10 slowed it down mick ball
15:12 straight to it
15:14 dogbae on the ropes went for the body
15:16 and head combination again didn't quite get
15:18 the uppercut through good jab from
15:20 dogbae
15:22 ball got to keep that right hand of his
15:24 nice and high when he's in close
15:26 dogbae still dangerous with that
15:28 short to mid range left up
15:30 on the inside
15:32 and there's the bell
15:36 he doesn't want it
15:48 super stop from mick ball again
15:50 left up there was more of a
15:52 shove wasn't it
15:54 from a different angle but the referee give the
15:56 count that's a 10-8 round let's have a look at it
15:58 here
16:00 that's not a bad shot he actually hits
16:02 the gloves there
16:04 mick ball just piling on the pressure
16:06 sustains
16:08 the attacks keeps it going this is where
16:10 he gets a little bit naughty with the wrestling but
16:12 just throws dogbae around
16:14 what must isaac dogbae
16:16 be thinking when his opponent
16:18 does that feeling the strength of his opponent
16:20 but this is a lovely bit of
16:22 work right hand to the body
16:24 and then he switches back right up straight to
16:26 the middle to the head switch of attack
16:28 perfect stop
16:30 dogbae is a fascinating character
16:32 royal families in Ghana
16:34 hence the nickname royal storm he was an
16:36 A-level student and an olympian
16:38 at the age of 17
16:40 and he's gone on to have a fantastic career
16:42 in the professional ranks
16:44 but he's got a real battle on his hands here
16:46 against this ultra motivated man
16:48 from liverpool in mick ball
16:50 every punch he's thrown in there tonight
16:52 is a punch designed to end the fight
16:54 and he's going to do that for 12 rounds
16:56 regardless of what happens in there
16:58 good work again from mick ball
17:02 the only thing i would say
17:04 you must concentrate
17:06 in this type of a contest
17:08 against a tough opponent who can punch
17:10 himself he's boxed at world level
17:12 remember
17:14 he's dangerous
17:16 it's going all balls way at the moment
17:18 he's doing really well
17:20 he's just got to keep it going
17:22 talking about the difference in experience
17:24 ball have been a pro for less than a year
17:26 by the time that dogbae was a world champion
17:28 good shots again from ball
17:30 he's putting those combinations together
17:32 so impressively tonight
17:34 dogbae's turn to launch an attack
17:44 ball immediately back though
17:46 i think he's made his mind up tonight
17:48 mick ball that he's not prepared to take a
17:50 backwards step
17:52 no
17:54 dogbae
17:56 obviously has to go himself there
17:58 he's actually a little bit more vulnerable
18:00 when he's throwing shots especially with the right hand
18:02 over the top from ball and ball's going for it again
18:04 and dogbae jabs out
18:06 and ball has the chance to land
18:08 that right hand over the top but this is better
18:10 for dogbae
18:12 ball's clearly the stronger man in there
18:14 whenever he wants to bully
18:16 dogbae is able to push him back to the ropes
18:18 or get him into a corner
18:20 a little bit more than a minute to go
18:26 in the fifth round
18:28 scheduled for 12
18:30 the winner gets a world title shot
18:34 that's what's on the line for these two men
18:36 tonight dogbae's been there before
18:38 mick ball wants to taste the big time
18:40 for the very first time
18:42 is there signs from dogbae
18:44 is he just slowing down a little bit
18:46 is he feeling the pace dogbae
18:48 i actually think this has been one of his better rounds
18:50 you just see signs of the odd slow jab here and there
18:52 just him taking in a few deep breaths
18:54 just waiting for the next attack from ball
18:56 if there are any stamina doubts
18:58 about an opponent
19:00 mick ball
19:02 is he going to be able to
19:04 get a shot
19:06 or is he going to be able to
19:08 get a shot
19:10 if there are any stamina doubts
19:12 about an opponent mick ball is the ideal man
19:14 to find him
19:16 ball goes lunging in
19:22 not one that packed too much
19:24 in the way of power
19:26 don't forget nathan healy against denzel bentley
19:28 the co-main event comes after this one
19:30 two cracking fights for the top of the bill
19:32 tonight here in manchester
19:34 this one living up to all the expectation
19:36 as we hear the sound of the bell
19:38 [crowd chanting]
19:40 [crowd chanting]
19:42 [crowd chanting]
19:44 [crowd chanting]
19:46 just keep breaking him down
19:48 to do what we are doing
19:50 stay switched on always
19:52 there are times when he will want to do a little bit
19:54 he will want to stand up and rest
19:56 we will do it clever
19:58 do it with space
20:00 we will keep the tight and tidy
20:02 this is usually the biggest stage
20:04 just keep the right side of the eye
20:06 as it goes as well
20:08 so it is great for us
20:10 but keep eye out for each player
20:12 otherwise just keep doing what you are doing
20:14 welcome back to the manchester arena
20:16 where paul stevenson is talking in nick ball's corner
20:18 the main crux of it
20:20 richie between rounds was just keep breaking him down
20:22 i think that is the plan tonight
20:24 just go around and break dogmey down
20:26 patience and break him down
20:28 sensible coaching there
20:30 from paul stevenson
20:32 he knows what he is talking about
20:34 so out for the 6th round
20:36 here in the manchester arena
20:38 atmosphere in here is crackling
20:40 they are really enjoying the build tonight
20:42 the magnificent 7
20:44 most of the fights have lived up to the pre fight expectations
20:46 and nick ball certainly going about his business
20:48 he landed a really solid right in there
20:50 full credit to dogmey
20:52 he seems to find a way back
20:54 regardless of what situation he is in
20:56 with a great chin as need
20:58 taking a couple of big shots
21:00 he comes far
21:02 inviting the right hand again
21:04 from nick ball
21:06 with that low lead hand of his
21:08 nick ball he is going around
21:10 and says to me
21:12 you will not leave dogmey alone
21:14 that is a good response there
21:16 from dogmey
21:18 ball continues to chop away at dogmey
21:20 continues to try and break his resistance
21:22 break his spirit
21:24 the punching machine
21:26 he never stops
21:28 attack after attack after attack
21:30 in there
21:32 the volume of his work
21:34 is so good
21:36 he is not going to let the opponent
21:38 get away with it
21:40 he is going to be able to
21:42 take a few more shots
21:44 and he is going to be able to
21:46 the volume of his work
21:48 is so impressive
21:50 and that front foot
21:52 and yes he is dictating things
21:56 dogmey to his credit
22:02 he is taking everything that ball has thrown
22:04 he is still in there
22:06 Nathan Heaney fans in full voice all around the arena
22:14 Nick ball and Isaac dogmey doing their thing here
22:16 in the co-main event
22:18 dogmey with his back to the ropes
22:24 Nick ball waits
22:26 patient, waits for the opening
22:28 hits the uppercut
22:30 what I liked about that attack there
22:32 Fletch was
22:34 he puts dogmey on the ropes there
22:36 then got the guard
22:38 right back straight to the on guard position
22:40 to get his hands up nice and high
22:42 he is thinking about defence also
22:44 at ball
22:46 dogmey's big problem here Richie
22:48 is when he tries to open up himself
22:50 he is just met by a barrage from ball in return
22:52 the pressure of the two isn't it
22:58 clearly
23:00 he cannot right
23:02 he is not going
23:04 off just yet, still dangerous
23:06 [FANS CHANTING]
23:10 Ball attack into body and head again.
23:18 He's mixed up those attacks really impressively tonight.
23:22 [INAUDIBLE]
23:34 What sign here and there that he's feeling it definitely?
23:38 There's the bell.
23:39 Let's bring in Carl Frampton, who's
23:40 watching it from the presentation position
23:42 and scoring the fight as well.
23:44 I mean, it's what we thought it might be, Carl.
23:46 Yeah, in terms of scorecard, it's pretty one-sided.
23:49 But some of the rounds are competitive.
23:51 But I think what's really impressed me here
23:53 about Nick Ball-- and I've sparred A.J. Cogbay,
23:56 and I've sparred maybe 200 rounds with him at least.
24:00 He's physically very, very strong.
24:01 But Nick Ball is manhandling him like I've never
24:04 seen before, picking his shots well.
24:08 I mean, it's a long way back for Cogbay here.
24:11 Thank you, Carl.
24:14 I think you concur with all of that, Richie.
24:17 I mean, it has been quite startling,
24:18 hasn't it, the way that he's been manhandled
24:20 around the ring.
24:20 We've picked up on that two or three times
24:22 when he's been bullied into the ropes or thrown into a corner.
24:25 Absolutely.
24:26 You know, Cogbay's a former world champion,
24:28 and he's fought at world level.
24:29 But there, he's been thrown around, like Carl has said.
24:32 And that would have surprised him.
24:34 He wouldn't have expected that from Nick Ball.
24:36 Ball quit being a classroom with his dad in Liverpool
24:39 to concentrate on his boxing career.
24:41 He's now got his own clothing range
24:43 and designs on leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
24:47 And he's been very impressive here.
24:48 Carl Prampton's got it a shutout with a 10-8 round
24:53 thrown in for Nick Ball to this stage
24:55 as we move into the seventh round of this 12-round ring.
24:58 What is a final eliminator for the WBC featherweight title?
25:03 Well, it is one-sided, but at the same time,
25:06 you know that Cogbay is still dangerous.
25:09 You know, he's still got that power.
25:12 And who knows?
25:14 That's why, like I said before, the concentration,
25:16 you've got to keep it going in a contest like this.
25:20 Ball is boxing superbly well.
25:23 Good body work from Ball, and then
25:25 a good shot to the head at the end of the combination.
25:28 Brandon Figueroa is the interim champion at the moment.
25:31 I mentioned that Ray Vargas has been fighting a super feather,
25:33 but he's still the WBC champion.
25:36 But there is going to be an opportunity
25:38 for the winner of this one.
25:39 Nick Ball doing everything he has to do at this stage.
25:45 Nick, Nick, Nick, stay down.
25:47 Excellent walk by Ball, finished off by the uppercut.
26:02 Yeah, excellent lead uppercut right at the end of that exchange.
26:07 Could be the best shot there.
26:08 A little smile on the face of Ball, and he beckons Cogbay in.
26:15 Cogbay actually caught him with a good shot there,
26:18 and made him go back a little bit.
26:20 But Ball back on that front foot again.
26:26 See, that's good boxing, just staying more at mid-range for the power shot.
26:33 But he's not leaning in, so he's not falling in on his work.
26:37 And that's when Cogbay could come back with that short left-up counter,
26:40 so it's good work there from Ball.
26:42 Well balanced, not falling in.
26:45 Good mid-range boxing power shots there.
26:48 Cogbay looking to try and put his punches together.
27:02 We've not seen too much of that tonight,
27:04 not too many combinations from the very experienced former world champion.
27:10 20 seconds to go in the 70s.
27:12 Just caught there, Ball, that balance as he came in, that sweeping right hand.
27:15 Made that mistake there again.
27:17 He's boxing as a save for there, he's trying to lead with his backhand,
27:20 and he falls in, he misses the target, gets away with it really.
27:23 Cogbay just wasn't accurate with the counter, but he's got to watch out for that.
27:27 He's been caught with that mover a couple of times tonight, Nick Vaughn.
27:31 The odd mistake here and there.
27:37 So the co-main event tonight after this one,
27:40 the British middleweight title fight between Nathan Heaney and Denzel Bentley.
27:46 And this really is the biggest night of Nathan Heaney's boxing career.
27:50 The crowd are in here warming their voices up
27:52 to see their man make his now famous ring walk.
27:55 And he's going to try and surprise everybody and beat Denzel Bentley tonight, Richie.
27:59 Tough job, but he's going to give it everything, Nathan.
28:02 And you know, he's got a lot of experience,
28:04 he's going to give it everything, Nathan.
28:07 And you know, he's confident, and you never know with the crowd behind him.
28:11 But like I said, I think Denzel Bentley is a good champion, should be a good fight.
28:31 I think to emphasize, Richie, just how much Nick Vaughn keeps punching in fights.
28:36 His last three fights have been two 12th round stoppages and one first round knockout.
28:41 So at either end of the fight, he's powerful and he's relentless.
28:45 Good engine, stays relaxed throughout the contest,
28:48 produces power shots late in the contest.
28:52 And as you just said, Fletch, so yes, he's a real handful.
28:57 Dogbe is coming out here, a bit better for him in the opening of this round.
29:02 This is the eighth, it must be in Dogbe's mind,
29:04 and he must be a mile behind on the cards.
29:06 He's got to do something to try and turn this fight in his favor.
29:10 Got to do something to try and make Nick Vaughn make a backwards step.
29:14 He's got to give Vaughn problems that he can't deal with.
29:17 When those little gaps do appear, he's got to be ready to strike.
29:20 Good work there from Vaughn again.
29:34 Jabs to the body, then jab to the head.
29:37 Better response there from Dogbe.
29:39 That wasn't too bad from him.
29:42 Here he comes, overhand.
30:02 Don't step back, Isaac.
30:05 Don't step back.
30:08 Hold the ground.
30:11 Hold the ground.
30:13 Vaughn having to be patient in this round.
30:16 Then he lands a really good right hand.
30:18 Yeah, he does indeed.
30:19 Dogbe just made the mistake there of just switching to southpaw.
30:25 And he got caught.
30:28 He tried to switch to southpaw like Nick Vaughn's been doing,
30:31 but gets caught with a super shot there from Vaughn.
30:34 When you talk about the difference in experience between the two of them
30:38 in terms of the kind of levels that Dogbe's been mixing in
30:41 and the fact that he's a former world champion,
30:43 it's been a very mature performance in there tonight from Vaughn, isn't it?
30:46 I think he's been mature, he's been patient, he's listened to his corner.
30:51 And yes, to now it's been a good performance from Nick Vaughn.
30:55 He's been pretty dominant.
30:57 And he's in against a real dangerous guy.
31:02 Thirty seconds to go in the eighth,
31:05 and Dogbe was wobbling whether he was off balance.
31:09 Legs were just starting to betray him.
31:11 Lands a decent body shot though by way of reply.
31:14 Not too bad at all from Dogbe.
31:16 There's a good right hand over the top went in from him
31:18 and then switched downstairs with a couple of good body shots himself.
31:23 He's still showing Nick Vaughn that he's still in this contest.
31:29 Switching from body to head and then back to the body again.
31:32 That uppercut he likes to uncork, doesn't he,
31:34 when he's targeted the body and there's the bell to end the eighth.
31:39 Three deep breaths, yeah? Three deep breaths.
31:42 Put them out, put them out.
31:46 Buggy, buggy, buggy.
31:48 Good, guys.
31:52 [MUSIC]
31:55 There's a new trainer in there tonight, Jeff.
32:02 He stepped up just like Dogbe right there.
32:04 He's an assistant to Virgil Hunter.
32:05 Saw a different voice in there tonight.
32:07 Stay on his ass. Stay on his ass.
32:08 Too close right now. It's too close.
32:11 You're doing the right shots, but you got to keep coming on his ass.
32:14 Hold your ground a little more.
32:16 All right?
32:17 I'm going to punch him.
32:18 No, you need to keep moving.
32:20 You need to hold your ground when he comes forward.
32:22 Just let your hands go.
32:24 All right?
32:25 Calls to service.
32:27 Richie, I think that's okay in theory,
32:29 but it's a difficult manner to hold your ground against Nick Ball.
32:32 Difficult to actually keep him at bay, isn't it?
32:37 Because Nick Ball's on that front foot,
32:39 pushing the fight to Isaac Dogbe.
32:44 Yes, difficult indeed to hold your ground
32:47 because you know he's going to come for you, Nick Ball.
32:50 So four rounds to go.
32:53 And unofficially, you take Carl Frampton's scorecard into account,
32:58 Nick Ball is a mile ahead.
33:01 A territory where Isaac Dogbe would need a stoppage to win,
33:04 or certainly some big 10-8 rounds at the end of this contest.
33:07 Unofficially, of course, but the eye test tells you
33:10 that there's been a gap between the two of them tonight.
33:16 Dogbe up on his toes here at the start of the night.
33:19 Yeah, a change of tactic, but not what the corner wanted.
33:23 But nevertheless, he's opted to hit and to move a little bit more.
33:28 Maybe that will confuse Nick Ball,
33:31 or just try and find a way of keeping Ball at bay, I suppose.
33:37 That's what he's doing.
33:39 Good work by Ball again.
33:43 He must be a nightmare to be in there against,
33:46 because he's so physically strong, isn't he?
33:48 You can't bully him by any stretch of the imagination.
33:51 He's a strong kid, isn't he?
33:53 Oh, great variety, look at that uppercut through the middle
33:58 and then keeps the attack going.
34:00 Super shot, it's been a really good punch for him tonight, that uppercut.
34:03 So Dogbe back to the usual tactics.
34:10 Standing a lot more, started this round on his toes,
34:13 but that soon slowed down.
34:16 Excellent body shot that was sent in by Ball as well.
34:21 Showed really good resilience in there tonight, Dogbe,
34:27 because he's taken some meaty shots, and lots of them,
34:30 during the course of the fight to this point,
34:32 but it's a go in the night.
34:34 Again, clever boxing there from Ball,
34:36 because he keeps switching from orthodox to soundball,
34:38 but he does it going backwards flex.
34:40 So his feet, obviously your feet will cross when you switch stances,
34:44 but if you get caught with a shot when you're moving away,
34:47 it takes the power out of the punch.
34:49 So he's been well schooled, Nick Ball, you can see it.
34:53 Ball starting the attack with an uppercut again,
34:55 there's another one on left, uppercut ripped through the guard once more.
34:59 Sharp work from Dogbe, but he just takes it, Nick Ball,
35:03 and then comes back firing himself.
35:07 That wasn't too bad from Dogbe, but the response from Nick Ball.
35:10 There you go, fletch.
35:15 Very, very solid from Dogbe, and he just took a deep breath
35:18 and just held on for a second, didn't he, Ball?
35:20 Yeah.
35:21 There's the class of Dogbe, still in there.
35:23 Still there, and we spoke about it right through this contest,
35:26 the left hook, he's got to watch out for the left hook, Nick Ball,
35:30 and he gets caught with one there.
35:32 And what an end to this round again for Dogbe.
35:35 Dogbe looking to put the pressure on, and Ball might just be happy to hear the bell.
35:38 He gives him that long lingering stare at the end of the round,
35:41 but as you've said time and again in this fight,
35:44 Nick Ball might be controlling it, but this is a former world champion,
35:47 a talented guy, and when the opportunity comes, he can be dangerous.
35:50 Very dangerous indeed, let's have a look at it here.
35:53 So it's a left hook, we spoke about it earlier in the contest,
35:58 that Nick Ball's got to watch out for that shot.
36:00 Got caught right at the end of the round.
36:04 The good left hook,
36:06 cracking shot,
36:08 and just a little wake-up call again for Nick Ball.
36:13 Dogbe still in the contest.
36:15 He's old school though, Rich, he never sits down.
36:18 Stands up between rounds.
36:20 Oh, is there a problem with Dogbe?
36:33 I think he was concerned, Jeff Royale,
36:37 about some of the tactics of Ball in the round.
36:39 I think he was questioning Victor Loughlin about whether he's having too much going there.
36:44 There's three to go, round ten.
36:46 Dogbe looking to start fast here in the tenth round.
36:50 Yeah, he's come out as a safe ball here, Dogbe.
36:53 Putting his punches together.
36:54 Oh, that's a good shot again from him.
36:57 So that left hook in that previous round has given him a bit of confidence, Fletch.
37:02 Needs a massive finish though, doesn't he?
37:04 Ball starts to chop away again.
37:06 Oh, lovely work. Excellent variety again.
37:16 That was lovely, it really was.
37:18 Two downstairs to the body, then that left hook again that hit the target.
37:22 Finding the space and the gap through the middle and hitting the target,
37:26 that's the hard thing to do, and he did that really well there.
37:30 Come on, get the chance to go.
37:32 Go get him.
37:33 Go get him.
37:35 Balls again, and they get out again before Dogbe can counter.
37:42 He's got to watch out for that left hook from Dogbe.
37:49 He's caught.
37:50 He's dominant again.
37:52 Dogbe is showing that he's a world-class fighter.
37:57 I think to counter that though, Richie,
37:59 Mick Hall is also showing tonight that he is very much a world-class fighter.
38:03 100%.
38:04 And at this level, this is the 10th round,
38:08 and both fighters are extremely dangerous with either punch.
38:11 But it's been mainly one-way traffic.
38:13 Dogbe's still in there.
38:15 It's been a dominant performance up to now from Mick Hall,
38:19 who has had to take a couple of sharp shots from Dogbe on occasions,
38:23 but the better work, the more impressive work,
38:26 the better scoring shots, the pressure has all come from Mick Hall.
38:30 Big, big night for him, but he's handled it so well.
38:33 Good left hand from Ball.
38:34 What a shot that was.
38:35 Yeah, that was a great shot, but before that as well,
38:37 working well with the jab, maintaining the gap,
38:40 in and out with the feet, some lovely boxing,
38:42 and Dogbe comes back with another big shot.
38:44 Ball's like a man possessed.
38:48 The minute he smells blood, he wants to bully Dogbe.
38:51 All around the ring, Victor Laughlin just calming him down.
38:54 40 seconds to go in the 10th.
38:56 Ball continues to land those uppercuts at will.
39:00 Full credit to Dogbe,
39:03 he's showing an iron chin in there tonight.
39:05 He's a tough guy, he really is.
39:07 I bet no one's thrown him around the ring like Mick Ball has, though,
39:13 even in world title fights.
39:14 There's a bit of blood on the face of Mick Ball, though.
39:17 It's just happened in this round,
39:18 I'm not sure if it's damage to the nose, Richie.
39:21 Final few seconds here in the 10th,
39:24 and then we can have a proper look.
39:26 Maybe not.
39:27 Finishing the round with a little bit of a combination,
39:35 a little flurry at the end.
39:38 John.
39:39 Stay there.
39:48 Watch these little flows that we're doing,
39:50 the ref's on us, so let's be careful with it.
39:52 Otherwise, keep doing what we're doing.
39:54 A couple of feints on the way in.
39:56 He has the ball for 30 seconds, then he's fucked.
39:58 So a couple of feints on the way in,
40:00 and then we'll have a look at the rest of the fight.
40:02 Keep doing what you're doing,
40:03 staying ahead in the rounds with your combinations,
40:05 just watch out for the mad ones,
40:06 and we're happy and we're all scoring in.
40:08 Lots of feints.
40:12 Well, there's Karl Frampton's card, Richie.
40:16 He's just actually given Isaac Dogbeck his first round of the fight,
40:19 so he's a mile behind, look, nine points on Karl's card,
40:22 which is unofficial, of course, but...
40:25 Show me your chance.
40:26 You're going to have to do it.
40:27 I'm going to have to do it.
40:28 You're going to have to do it.
40:29 ...the general consensus around this side here
40:31 is that the lead is pretty substantial for Ball.
40:34 Yes, most definitely.
40:36 I'm not going to argue with that.
40:38 For such a one-sided fight, it's still quite exciting,
40:42 because you know that Dogbeck is still in the contest
40:44 and he's very capable indeed of producing a power shot himself.
40:48 Two to go, and we're just dabbing away at the nose of Mick Paul between rounds.
40:54 There is a bit of blood flowing from there,
40:55 but nothing serious.
40:56 All he's got to do now is finish the job,
41:01 get himself to the final bell,
41:03 doesn't need to be a hero at this stage,
41:05 and then he can start thinking about a WBC World Title shot in 2024.
41:10 He's done everything right so far tonight,
41:12 carried out the game plan to perfection,
41:15 and been very aggressive in there.
41:17 Put his punches together like that superbly,
41:21 that's the every round we've seen.
41:23 Impressive combinations from Mick Paul.
41:26 Yes, the variety from Ball has been brilliant, it really has.
41:31 Sustained pressure.
41:34 Fighting on the inside in short range is so difficult to do,
41:38 and he just finds the space and the gaps.
41:41 With that variety in his work, yes, he's very good on the inside.
41:45 And then of course, a couple of late stoppages.
41:50 In recent fights, and Dogbe was down late in his last fight as well,
41:54 so don't be surprised if there's another twist in the plot at some stage.
41:59 Halfway through the 11th, Dogbe missing with the right hand.
42:02 He didn't miss earlier, that was a good shot from Dogbe as Mick Paul came forward.
42:07 Again, just keeping and maintaining that gap, not falling in.
42:17 And that's what Dogbe would want him to do, you see,
42:20 falling so he can come back with the odd short,
42:22 and a fast counter.
42:24 Not happening.
42:25 Look at this work again from Ball.
42:27 Just maintaining that gap again, lovely stuff.
42:31 Super work, great variety to the body and the head.
42:35 Good lap, Pukacar they've got through.
42:37 Two supremely fit men in there,
42:40 I mean the condition of the pair is outstanding,
42:42 it's one of the best in the world.
42:44 It's why they can both take the kind of shots they have tonight,
42:47 to see them bounce off of the main.
42:49 30 seconds to go in the penultimate round.
43:02 Up has come from Ball.
43:06 And again, really tough.
43:10 Up has come from Ball.
43:11 And again, really tight card for Dogbe,
43:15 but he manages to get one through in the end.
43:17 What a shot that was.
43:18 What a super little punch that was, that right uppercut.
43:21 Right onto the body, then right uppercut through to the head.
43:25 Dogbe, taking them all.
43:29 Tough, tough man.
43:30 Right uppercut with his back to the rugs, then from Ball.
43:37 And there's the foul, let's bring in Carl Crampton.
43:39 I mean Carl, this has been so impressive,
43:41 on so many levels from Nick Ball.
43:43 I think he's looked really, really good.
43:45 I think Dogbe has actually looked good on occasion as well,
43:49 but only in short periods of rounds,
43:51 so it's not enough to give him a round,
43:53 and that's why the scorecards are so wide.
43:55 I want to be trying to give Aiden something here,
44:00 but I can't just give a simple hero, you know what I mean?
44:03 And Nick Ball, I think his jab's really good,
44:05 his punch selection is good, and his strike, I mean...
44:08 It gets super, super strong.
44:12 I've never seen anything like it.
44:13 How impressive have you been, Carl, by the way?
44:15 He's put those combinations together,
44:17 because his variety of punches have been so impressive.
44:19 Yeah, the variety's been great, Fletch.
44:21 He's been picking shots, he's been draining them up through the middle,
44:24 little short jabs, long jabs, going to the body well.
44:27 Yeah, an excellent performance so far.
44:29 So both men ready for the 12th and final round.
44:33 Carl Bramson's got his wife in Nick Ball's favour.
44:37 And it's a case of seeing the job out.
44:40 Let's see whether there's a miracle finish for Isaac Dogbeil,
44:43 whether Nick Ball can get the late stoppage.
44:46 He's been known to do that on occasions.
44:48 He's been really good tonight.
44:50 Yeah, just holding the concentration there for him through this round.
44:53 You really get to drain dangerous opponents,
44:56 you've won almost every round.
44:58 And just getting over the line,
45:01 getting over the line there, seeing the job out.
45:04 If he could get a stoppage, it would be the icing on the cake, it really would.
45:16 This guy's only been stopped once, I remember,
45:18 that was in the 12th round,
45:20 the title fight against Armando Navarrete,
45:22 the Mexican.
45:25 That would be difficult,
45:27 but it's been a one-sided sort of shutout, if you like,
45:30 from Nick Ball.
45:31 It's been a tremendous display.
45:33 You've just got to see it out.
45:35 It's all about progressing through the levels, isn't it,
45:39 when you're a young fighter chasing a world title shot.
45:42 Every obstacle put in your way,
45:44 you've got to find a way to get over it.
45:46 He's impressively managed to do that tonight
45:49 against a man full of experience,
45:51 a man who's held world titles,
45:53 a man who still believes that he can get back to the top of the division as well.
45:58 Nick Ball has dominated this fight right from the opening bell.
46:01 I know that Dogbe probably won't have expected Nick Ball
46:05 to do this ferocious lay-up.
46:07 I mean, that was a superb jab.
46:09 What a shot that was from Ball.
46:10 A tiny one was outstanding, wasn't it?
46:12 Just a simple, basic jab,
46:14 hitting the target.
46:15 So he does the basics very well.
46:17 And like I say, Dogbe,
46:18 he would have expected Ball to slow down,
46:20 but he certainly hasn't.
46:21 Ball's combinations have been so impressive,
46:25 especially when he starts at the body
46:27 and works his way up and then
46:28 arrows that uppercut through the gloves.
46:30 It's maintaining the gap as well, Fletch,
46:34 while he's doing that.
46:35 That's the difficult part,
46:37 because you fall in.
46:38 If you miss the target, you actually fall in.
46:40 So you've got to hit the target,
46:42 keep the punches going.
46:43 Even there with his back to the ropes,
46:45 which he was the man that fought his way off it.
46:47 He was letting the punches go,
46:49 despite the fact he was boxed in a little bit.
46:52 Into the final minute.
46:53 Well, into the final minute.
46:55 And this looks like a comprehensive victory tonight
46:58 for Nick Ball.
47:00 And another step along the road
47:01 to a world title challenge,
47:03 and maybe, just maybe,
47:04 a world title belt in 2024.
47:07 I've got to say, Richie,
47:14 I love watching him.
47:15 You don't see him in a bad fight, do you?
47:16 No, not at all.
47:17 Action packed every round.
47:19 And listen to that.
47:22 He's been one-sided, but this hasn't been an easy fight.
47:25 Dogbear, he's a class act himself.
47:27 Absolutely.
47:28 Full credit to him for still being in there.
47:30 Well, there's the final bell.
47:35 And what a good job that was done by Nick Ball tonight.
47:38 Great job.
47:40 He'd be really, really pleased,
47:41 and so would Paul Stevenson, his coach,
47:43 because that was a superb display.
47:46 The variety of punching, his technique,
47:48 the way he's got his hands on the ropes,
47:50 the variety of punching, his technique,
47:52 the power, the timing, it was all there
47:54 against a world-class opponent,
47:56 a former world champion,
47:57 who's only lost contests at world level.
48:00 So that was a good display from Nick Ball.
48:02 You know, he goes on,
48:03 and this kid, yeah, we're going to see him
48:05 in a world title fight pretty soon, I should think.
48:08 I wonder what the rest of the fighters around me
48:11 with the division think when they look at him,
48:13 because whatever happens,
48:14 you know you're getting a hard night's work against him.
48:16 You get nothing easy against that man,
48:18 no matter who you are.
48:19 Well, he hasn't even sat down, has he, in between rounds,
48:21 so he's extremely fit, confident in his fitness.
48:24 He produces power shots late on in the contest,
48:27 combinations as well.
48:28 He's got very good variety,
48:30 and occasionally does the basics well behind that jab,
48:32 which is so important.
48:33 He's just done 12 rounds, Richie,
48:36 at a ferocious pace.
48:37 He's thrown a million punches while he's in there.
48:39 He's never stopped throwing leather,
48:41 and he's stood there now
48:42 looking like he can do another 12.
48:44 Yeah, it's not as if it's against an opponent
48:47 who hasn't really fought back.
48:48 Dogbear, you know, give a good account himself.
48:51 Also, powerful man, dangerous man,
48:53 caught Nick Ball with a couple of good shots.
48:56 But Ball comes through it,
48:57 and like I say, he's put in a punch-perfect display there, really.
49:01 Okay, then, let's get the decision.
49:08 Thomas Stryber is ready to bring it to us.
49:10 Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of boxing,
49:17 we go to the judges' scorecards.
49:20 Judge Kevin Parker scores it 118-109.
49:25 Judge Kieran McCann scores it 116-111.
49:30 And Judge Mark Lyson scores it 119-108.
49:35 All in favor of your winner by unanimous decision,
49:40 and still WBC silver featherweight champion
49:45 and winner of the final eliminator
49:48 for the WBC featherweight world championship,
49:52 Nick "The Wrecking" Ball!
49:58 So Nick Ball can say goodbye to 2023,
50:02 can enjoy his Christmas dinner,
50:03 and then when 2023 becomes 2024,
50:07 he can look forward to a world title championship.
