00:00 toughness, do you think that's part of it?
00:01 And where do you think those struggles have come from?
00:04 >> Definitely, just getting down there, helping Khalil out.
00:09 I mean, if we can, I'm allowed Khalil to be the only person going down there and
00:13 fighting down for rebounds.
00:14 We gotta contest shots and then get back down there and
00:18 gain a rebound as a team.
00:19 >> Right there.
00:21 >> Right, you guys still struggling offensively,
00:25 getting good looks from the perimeter and everything too.
00:27 What has to change with that to get better looks from three and
00:32 open more open looks than I ever have?
00:35 >> Yeah, I think the biggest thing is when we get stagnant,
00:41 we tend to kind of look around and it's hard to get shots.
00:46 But I think when we're moving it, we're flowing, it's easier.
00:50 But I think just basically going off rebounding,
00:53 it's if we can get stops and rebound the ball, we gotta do a better job of that.
00:57 And then we can get on transition, cuz we're good in half court, but
01:02 we're even better in transition.
01:04 So we gotta find ways to gain rebound, and it's gotta be all of us.
01:08 I mean, for me, one rebound's not good enough.
01:11 And obviously, a lot of our other guys gotta come down and
01:13 rebound and help these guys out, so.
01:14 >> What's the art to balancing that where you wanna get out of transition,
01:20 you wanna run, you wanna get bodies down the floor quickly, but
01:24 not before, obviously, you finish the possession.
01:27 >> Right, I mean, we gotta secure it first, and
01:31 we gotta know we got it before we go out and run.
01:33 So that's the big thing for me, is just come back in and pinching in and
01:37 helping rebound.
01:38 I mean, we gotta box out, get our man, and
01:40 then it's just the little stuff that we gotta do.
01:42 Cuz they outrun us like crazy today.
01:45 So I think if we can eliminate those, we're right there.
01:48 >> Trey, obviously X got in foul trouble pretty early in the game.
01:52 How do you feel like you and the other guards kind of handled that, and
01:55 what could you have maybe done a little better there?
01:57 >> Yeah, I mean, it's always tough when your point guard is in foul trouble.
02:00 But like I said, we need him on the floor.
02:03 So he's gotta be smarter, he's gotta be smarter,
02:06 cuz he knows how much we need him to be on the floor to lead our team.
02:09 So I think just for him, just staying in the fight and
02:13 knowing when to pick your poison with being physical.
02:19 I think the refs got a couple early ones, so it was tough.
02:24 It's hard for him to get in the flow, so I think just being smarter.
02:27 >> Yeah, Trey, UConn's guards led them in scoring today.
02:31 Just what was the challenge trying to defend them?
02:34 >> Yeah, I mean, they won the national championship last year for a reason.
02:38 They got really good guards.
02:39 Spencer, both really good.
02:42 And their offense and their flow, the way they move the ball is really good.
02:47 You can tell that they work on it a lot, that they're all connected as one.
02:53 So I gotta give props to that, it was tough guarding it.
02:57 They made shots and they're there to get easy ones.
02:59 So I think just at the end of the day, going back and
03:03 watching the film and getting my requirement, cuz it's a good team we just played.
03:07 >> Yeah, Trey, Dan Hurley said that it's all about defending, and
03:12 his words, the pain, the pain, the pain, playing against you guys.
03:15 How do you get perimeter, especially threes, to become more of a weapon,
03:20 but at least threatens the defense?
03:21 >> Yeah, I mean, obviously we got good posts here.
03:26 We think they can get shots up and score whatever they want, like we did.
03:30 So I think just the guards, just when they kick it, being ready to shoot and
03:34 being in the right spots at the right time, and knocking it down with confidence.
03:37 I mean, there's gonna be opportunities for us,
03:39 because the league's gonna demand a double team, cuz he's that talented.
03:43 It's the same with Cleo, so when it's kicked out, we gotta be ready to knock it
03:46 down.
03:48 >> Malik, you go seven for nine today against a very good foul line.
03:53 What do you feel like that positively will save the NFL?
03:57 So the fouls obviously will not keep you from finishing.
04:02 >> My foul situation's been critical since freshman year, so I gotta deal with that.
04:08 At the end of the day, I just gotta understand that teams are gonna W now,
04:12 and I gotta make the right read out of the double teams.
04:15 >> Yeah, Malik, how tough was it when you had a good game,
04:19 Mike kinda cried you for kinda keeping the team in there.
04:22 Then he fouled out, you were clearly emotional.
04:25 What do you take away from that moment, and how hard was that to walk off the court?
04:30 >> I mean, that's hard.
04:31 I mean, just leaving your team out there ten minutes to go,
04:35 it's just hard to deal with that.
04:37 And just understanding that my team is out there without me, and
04:41 I know they need me on the court.
04:43 So dealing with dumb fouls or dumb situations like that, I gotta stop.
04:47 >> Yeah, for both of you, any thought on the IU fans today in the building?
04:53 Coach Hurley, you've come to the IU fans in the Hessen Square Garden today.
04:57 >> Yeah. >> You've seen the question.
04:59 >> No, they're great.
05:01 Obviously, we travel well, and there's a lot of IU fans here in New York.
05:04 So we're really appreciative of all of them coming to support.
05:09 And I'm glad we, I'm upset we couldn't get it done today.
05:13 But I think just continue to stay with us the whole season,
05:16 cuz we're gonna be better.
05:17 >> Nice question, yeah.
05:20 >> Dre, you guys, there were many times in that game, they were on 14,
05:23 you got to 10, you got to 7, a couple of times.
05:26 Did you feel like on the floor that you were just kind of a run or
05:30 two away of trying to get back in it when they went on their run and into it?
05:33 >> 100%, I mean, we're right there, and we knew that.
05:38 I mean, they're not 20 points better than us, and we know that.
05:42 It's one possession at a time, and one possession can really hurt you.
05:46 So I think just our assertiveness and our awareness to being able to get stops.
05:51 I mean, there's a couple times that you said we got it to seven and
05:55 kept it there, but we just couldn't get over that hump.
05:57 So I think just knowing that each possession matters so much, and
06:01 that cradles the time, we've got to find ways to really just
06:05 really kind of be just ready to go when things get tough.
06:11 >> Okay, that's a wrap.
06:13 Thank you very much.
