00:02 - Good day, I am Sharmsa Spina, and this is PTV News Now.
00:10 The United States is considering
00:13 redesignating Yemen's Houthi rebels
00:15 as a terrorist organization
00:17 after they seized the cargo vessel
00:19 Galaxy Leader at the Red Sea.
00:22 U.S. National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby,
00:25 called the incident a piracy of a ship,
00:28 accusing the rebel group of targeting civilians.
00:31 Military spokesperson for the Houthi rebels,
00:33 Yahya Sari, said their armed forces will not hesitate
00:37 to target any Israeli ship in the Red Sea
00:40 or any location within their reach.
00:43 Houthi rebels took hostage of 25 crew members
00:46 of Galaxy Leader, including 17 Filipino seafarers
00:50 in retaliation to Israel's offensive in Gaza.
00:54 In the meantime, President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.
00:57 assured the government is doing everything
00:58 to ensure the safety of the Filipino seafarers.
01:02 A seized fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict
01:07 is set to begin Thursday,
01:09 has been delayed until at least Friday.
01:11 Israel and Hamas agreed on a deal
01:13 to release 50 Israeli hostages, all women and children,
01:18 in exchange for a four-day pause
01:19 in the fighting and freedom
01:21 for some 150 Palestinian prisoners.
01:24 Israel says after the seized fire,
01:27 the fighting in Gaza will resume.
01:30 B-Waste's Linda Grabstein has this report.
01:32 After weeks of efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S.,
01:37 Israel and Hamas agreed to a four-day ceasefire
01:40 in exchange for the release of 50 Israeli hostages,
01:43 all women and children.
01:44 Israel also agreed to free 150 Palestinian prisoners,
01:49 all women and minors.
01:50 Hamas will hand over 50 hostages in stages
01:53 to the Red Cross, who will transfer them
01:55 to Israeli soldiers.
01:57 Israel says they will be brought
01:58 to isolated medical facilities inside Israel
02:01 to reunite with their families and have medical checks.
02:04 Each day, another 12 or 13 hostages will be freed.
02:08 Israeli press reports say this deal
02:10 will initially include 30 children,
02:12 eight mothers, and 12 other women.
02:14 Israel claims that Hamas is holding some 40 children,
02:18 but Hamas says it cannot yet locate
02:20 some 10 additional children kidnapped on October 7th.
02:23 The Israeli cabinet approved the deal
02:25 in a late-night session Tuesday.
02:28 (speaking in foreign language)
02:30 - We are facing a difficult decision this evening,
02:33 but it's a right decision.
02:35 The entire security establishment fully supports it.
02:39 - Israel has published a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners,
02:42 either women or under age 19,
02:44 half of whom will be released in exchange
02:47 for the 50 Israeli hostages.
02:49 Others could be freed if the ceasefire is extended.
02:52 One of those on the list is 18-year-old Ubay Abu Maria,
02:56 whose father Yusuf was himself jailed by Israel five times.
03:00 (speaking in foreign language)
03:02 - Ubay was first arrested at 14,
03:04 and he's now injured, losing control of 70% of his arm.
03:09 I am very happy that soon Ubay will be in my arms.
03:14 - The war began after fighters
03:15 from U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas
03:18 crossed into Israel October 7th
03:20 and killed some 1,200 people,
03:22 abducting another 240, mostly civilians.
03:26 Israel responded with massive airstrikes
03:28 and a ground invasion that has killed
03:30 at least 14,000 people in Gaza,
03:33 more than 2/3 of them women and children,
03:35 according to Hamas.
03:37 During the four-day ceasefire,
03:38 Israel will allow large quantities of humanitarian aid,
03:42 including fuel, into Gaza.
03:44 But Israeli officials say that after the ceasefire ends,
03:47 Israel will resume its offensive against Hamas.
03:51 - Unlike many Israelis, I believe that it is very clear
03:56 to the decision-makers that they cannot stop.
04:00 The Israeli sentiment will not let them stop.
04:05 If they stop the war after the four, five, six days
04:10 of the ceasefire, that will be the end of this government.
04:16 - For the families of the hostages in Israel,
04:18 it is a time of unbearable tension
04:20 as they wait to see if their loved ones will be freed.
04:24 Linda Gradstein, VOA News, Jerusalem.
04:26 In the meantime, the Israeli military convoy
04:32 entered the war-torn Gaza City.
04:35 AFP TV footage showed Israeli soldiers crossing into Gaza
04:39 and driving along the main battle-scarred coastal road.
04:42 The conflict was sparked by the October 7th attacks,
04:45 when Hamas militants stormed over the border,
04:48 killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians,
04:52 and taking around 240 hostages.
04:55 Since then, Gaza`s Hamas-run government says
04:58 more than 14,000 people were killed
05:00 in Israel`s aerial bombardment and ground operations in Gaza.
05:05 Two-thirds of them were women and children.
05:07 At this juncture, let`s turn over to my colleague,
05:12 Eddie Karta, in the Pine City,
05:13 for what`s shaping up of late in the Cordilleras.
05:16 Eddie?
