00:00 Travis Scott is opening up about the devastating Astroworld tragedy.
00:06 Two years after a crowd surge at the Rappers Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas led
00:12 to the deaths of 10 concertgoers, the artist is recalling the ways that the incident has
00:17 changed him.
00:19 Travis tells GQ in an interview published on November 15th, "I always think about it.
00:26 Those fans were like my family.
00:28 You know, I love my fans to the utmost.
00:32 I was just overly devastated."
00:34 On dealing with the tragedy, he continues, "It has its moments where it gets rough.
00:40 You just feel for those people and their families."
00:44 Although only two songs were released off his in-progress album Utopia during Astroworld,
00:51 Travis reveals that after struggling to complete the record, he ultimately found getting back
00:56 in the studio to be cathartic.
00:59 He says, "Making music, you think about things that go on in life and things that happen
01:05 in your life, and you dial in on things.
01:09 That moment for families, for the city, you know, it was devastating."
01:14 The 32-year-old continues, "And when it came to making, like even finishing the album,
01:21 I got back into it probably, I don't know, months and months and months after."
01:27 And the idea of just even getting back into music, working on music, and just even getting
01:33 into that was therapeutic of being able to channel some of the energy into production
01:39 and sounds and finishing it.
01:42 Per forensic documents obtained by E! News at the time of the November 2021 incident,
01:48 ten individuals died of compression asphyxia when the crowd of 50,000 present in Houston's
01:54 NRG Park began to surge towards the stage.
01:59 In addition to the deaths, which were listed as "accidental," more than 2,400 other
02:05 concertgoers reportedly required medical attention as a result of the crowd surge.
02:12 In June, almost two years after the tragedy, a Texas grand jury determined that Travis
02:18 would not face criminal charges, issuing six no bills regarding the incident.
02:24 "I'm not going to be a judge," Travis said in a statement. "I'm not going to be a judge. I'm not going to be a judge."
