Transcript
00:00 All right, folks, we have quarterback Kyle McCord.
00:02 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:06 We'll open up Dylan Davis, Delaware Gazette.
00:09 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:19 >> Yeah, I mean, obviously, the corner made a good play in the ball,
00:23 he jumped inside on the slant.
00:25 So my eyes were on the linebacker and
00:28 pulled the ball into a third tomorrow and just jumped it.
00:31 But if I could have it back, obviously, probably just wanna burn that one in
00:35 the ground and live to see the next play.
00:38 Cuz we put our defense in a tough situation there, but.
00:40 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:44 >> Over to the left, Austin Ward, podcast.
00:46 >> How would you describe what it's like to be in that locker room?
00:49 I don't know, the last ten minutes after coming out of school.
00:51 >> It hurts, that's really the only word for it.
00:54 I know it's a work that hard for that opportunity and
00:59 just to come up a few plays short, it hurts.
01:03 And there's no way around that, so it's a tough feeling.
01:08 >> Tim May, Tim May podcast.
01:11 Kyle, at the last possession,
01:13 were you having a little bit of thoughts on Notre Dame?
01:15 I mean, here you go again and stuff.
01:17 Y'all got down the field, a little square into June Fleming was ruled a catch.
01:21 >> Mm-hm. >> And then on the last play,
01:23 just take us through that from your vantage point.
01:26 >> Yeah, so defense got us the ball back, down six with about a minute to go.
01:31 No timeouts, so we knew we had to get the ball moving.
01:35 Started off with a good completion to Marvin on the sideline, and
01:38 then obviously, Joins play with the neck with a great recovery.
01:42 And obviously, in that situation, they knew we were gonna have to take
01:47 a shot down the field to get the ball moving.
01:50 And then, looked like they played cover to the boundary there to join.
01:57 And then, so I went back to Marvin, kinda got hit as I threw it in.
02:01 Obviously, get as much on the ball as I wanted to, and they made a play.
02:07 >> That drive you and y'all were facing for the last, what, six, eight plays were
02:11 runs, did you figure y'all kinda had something going now?
02:15 I mean, what was that drive like?
02:17 >> Which drive?
02:18 >> The one where y'all drove and I think you ran the ball like eight times.
02:20 >> Eight straight times?
02:21 Yeah, we wanna score it?
02:22 Yeah, I think that drive started with the sack, and
02:26 started second and 14 behind the chains.
02:28 And then Marvin made a good play, got the first down.
02:31 And then I think we just called straight runs after that.
02:34 The other line did a great job moving them.
02:36 Trey and Chip obviously did a great job of pushing the ball and
02:41 to cap it off with a touchdown there, that was good.
02:43 I think that was obviously one of the better drives we had in the game.
02:47 I'd be able to run the ball like that.
02:48 >> Andy Baxter, Leonard Mineral.
02:51 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:01 >> Yeah, it's tough.
03:02 I mean, to be honest, there really aren't a lot of words to say in a moment like
03:06 this, it's one of those games where you put everything in.
03:11 And it hurts to come up short, but we'll regroup tomorrow.
03:16 Watch the film, obviously, make the corrections on it.
03:19 But the worst part is that we kind of have to sit back now and
03:23 see how everything shakes out, it's out of our control.
03:25 But I know last year, we got a second chance at life there,
03:31 getting in the playoff, and we came ready to play, motivated.
03:35 But we'll see, like I said, the worst part is that it's out of our control.
03:40 >> Clay Hall, WSYX.
03:43 >> Kyle, anything you learned just from being in this environment,
03:46 the intensity that it measures, what you thought?
03:50 >> Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest thing is that games like this come down to one
03:53 or two plays.
03:54 And you prepare all offseason, you prepare all year long.
03:58 And your season really comes down to a handful of plays,
04:02 whether you make them or you don't.
04:03 And I think that just goes to show the margin of error,
04:08 especially in games like this are so slim.
04:12 So obviously, not the result we wanted.
04:16 But like I said earlier, I think get back on the film,
04:19 correct our mistakes and move forward.
04:23 >> Cameron Teague Robinson, The Athletic.
04:25 >> Kyle, you just gave me a special gift,
04:27 what was the compensation like for the half?
04:30 How do you feel that that changed it?
04:34 >> Yeah, I mean, I don't know how long it was,
04:36 it looked like 50 plus maybe in a six year field, I don't know how long it was.
04:39 And then we had the ball at the one yard line,
04:45 two yard line to start that possession.
04:46 So even to get chance at points there was a win for us.
04:50 I mean, obviously, three points would have been nice there.
04:53 But just to get the opportunity to put points on the board there,
04:57 I think was good for us.
04:59 So obviously, I think if he makes it, great.
05:01 But if not, I don't think anybody batted an eye.
05:03 We knew it was gonna be a fourth quarter game.
05:06 >> Nathan Barrett, Cleveland.com.
05:08 Back out, you were part of the 2021 class.
05:12 [INAUDIBLE]
05:22 >> Yeah, obviously, like I said,
05:26 some of our future is really not in our hands anymore.
05:31 So just sit back and see what happens.
05:34 But in 2021 class, my brother's been three years where I felt like we're
05:40 kind of building to this moment, not gonna done it hurts.
05:45 But a bunch of talented guys in that group,
05:49 a bunch of guys that are going to do great things at the next level.
05:52 But I know this one definitely stings,
05:56 cuz this is what we talked about when we first got here and
06:01 to lose on the stage hurts.
06:03 >> And one final question, Bill Rabinowitz, Columbus Dispatch.
06:06 >> [INAUDIBLE]
06:16 >> Yeah, obviously,
06:24 the interception is not an ideal way to start off the game.
06:27 And obviously, they scored off the short field.
06:33 So I mean, playing a little bit uphill at that point,
06:36 I don't know if we ever regained the lead.
06:39 I know we tied the game at one point.
06:41 And then to your point about Marvin, I mean, it's been an incredible run.
06:48 Obviously, I love to get another chance to play with them here.
06:53 But I hope this isn't the end of it.
06:58 But if it is, I think he's cemented himself as one of the best players to ever
07:03 come through this program.
07:04 He's a special dude and I love that guy.
07:06 >> Thank you very much.
