00:00 Kylie Jenner just announced her newest business venture and it's already causing some major drama.
00:05 Now this isn't the first time that Kylie gets called out for supposedly stealing ideas or and things like that.
00:11 Kylie Jenner stole ideas from fashion designer for her new clothing line.
00:17 I knew I wanted to design my own clothes. Obviously my love for fashion.
00:22 Let the Kai Traversi begin.
00:26 Just two days after announcing the launch of her new clothing line, Kai,
00:29 Kylie Jenner has already been accused of copying the work of another designer.
00:34 Betsy Johnson, not to be confused with pretty and punk icon Betsy with an E,
00:38 Johnson, posted a series of Instagram stories Wednesday claiming she emailed Jenner's team
00:44 concepts, language and line sheets from her own label products, and that they went on to
00:49 utilize her ideas without giving her proper credit. Yikes.
00:54 This week Kylie announced on her Instagram her new brand called Kai.
00:59 Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the irony here?
01:02 The queen of lip kits and contouring is getting accused of lifting someone else's work.
01:07 Designer Betsy Johnson claims Kylie Jenner copied her ideas for new clothing line Kai.
01:14 But let's be real. This isn't the first time Kylie has been in hot water for her business practices.
01:19 Remember when she tried to trademark Kylie and got shut down by fellow mogul Kylie Minogue?
01:24 Or when she released a controversial camo collection that was eerily similar to Plug NYC's
01:29 designs? Seems like Kylie just can't catch a break. But let's not forget that imitation is
01:34 the sincerest form of flattery. Kylie was immediately met with backlash over her potential
01:39 clothing line. We're sure Betsy couldn't be happier that her designs caught the attention
01:44 of one of the biggest names in fashion. That was sarcasm. Followed by a picture of Kylie
01:48 wearing a trench coat with the caption "dead." In this day and age where trends are constantly
01:53 being recycled, it's almost impossible to come up with something completely original.
01:57 And let's not forget that fashion is all about inspiration and reinterpretation.
02:01 Johnson, who recently dressed Julia Fox in a leather jacket with a chiseled breastplate,
02:07 took aim at both Jenner and Emilia in one of her Instagram stories describing their alleged
02:12 cribbing of her ideas as a "trash move." Kylie Jenner copied her ideas for new clothing line
02:19 "Kai. Trash move." We emailed Kylie and all her team at products.ltd concept and language and
02:26 online sheets six months ago, Johnson wrote. Interesting concept Kylie. Interesting. Thanks
02:32 for the cosign. F your support. Seems like Kylie just can't catch a break when it comes to her
02:37 business ventures. From trademark disputes to accusations of copying other designs,
02:42 the youngest Jenner sister has faced her fair share of controversy. Johnson also shared a
02:48 screenshot of her student loan balance totaling more than 50,000 pounds, writing "while I stare
02:53 at my student debt, worked my ass off for this." Like so many other working class kids who bust
02:58 their ass for expertise they weren't born into to realize their ideas. Johnson did not immediately
03:03 reply to Page Six Style's request for comment and Jenner hasn't responded to Johnson's accusations.
03:08 But the reality star turned mogul spoke to the Wall Street Journal about her latest business
03:12 venture for a story published Wednesday, describing Kai's first designs as "King Kylie, who I am at
03:18 my core." "Creatively, I have such a strong vision of what I want to look like and what I want to do
03:22 and what I want to wear," she added. "There's really no one telling me what to do." I love low
03:26 rise pants and like a crop top and accessories. Jenner's collection with Emilia will include faux
03:33 leather pants, coats, tops and base layers. Per a press release with all 12 items priced between $48
03:38 and $198 and offered in a size inclusive range of XXS to XXX. But let's not forget that behind all
03:46 the drama and headlines, there's a talented young woman who has successfully built an empire at a
03:51 very young age. And whether you love her or hate her, it's impossible to deny the impact she has
03:56 had on the fashion industry. Kylie has proven time and time again that she knows how to make a
04:00 statement. From her iconic lip kits that sell out within minutes, to her bold and daring fashion
04:05 choices. And let's not forget her ability to stay ahead of the game and constantly reinvent herself,
04:10 whether it's through her ever-changing hairstyles or new business ventures. At the end of the day,
04:14 we're just excited to see what Jenner has in store for her new line. Kylie Jenner's new brand,
04:19 Kai, is set to launch tomorrow. But like with most things Kardashian, there is some drama
04:24 surrounding it. Kanye West appears to be the latest victim in Kylie Jenner's stealing antics,
04:29 as fans are calling her out right now for literally ripping off Kanye West's designs
04:35 from his brand Yeezy and using it in her new clothing line, Kai.
04:39 Yeah, Kylie definitely better be careful because we all know how Kanye West can get
04:48 if you cross him. It seems like Kylie is always running into some type of controversy with her
04:56 brands. And yeah, for this new claim fans are calling her out, she's straight up copying Kanye
05:02 West with her new collection, Kai. Kylie Jenner announced on Instagram that her clothing line,
05:08 Kai, would release new items on November 15th, 2023, including puffer jackets. And the post
05:16 caption said this, "Kai drop 002 puffers + base layers coming 11/15." And this is what jumped out
05:24 to fans because they quickly noticed the resemblance between Kylie Jenner's puffer jackets
05:29 and those from Kanye West's Gap line released in 2021. And by the way, prior to that time,
05:35 in 2020, Kanye West signed a 10-year deal with Gap. The two on Friday announced a multi-year
05:41 partnership in which West will create a line of clothing for Gap under his Yeezy fashion brand.
05:46 To create a line of clothing under his Yeezy Gap brand. So this was a major collaboration
05:52 with Kanye West's Yeezy brand and Gap. And the first product from the line,
05:57 which was a blue puffer jacket, sold out within hours of launch in June of 2021.
06:02 Kanye West dropping his first collaboration with Gap. It is this blue puffer coat and it's sold
06:08 out in hours. And Kanye West has been incredibly successful in the fashion world. Plus, he was
06:14 married to Kylie's older sister, Kim Kardashian. So I don't know, maybe Kylie feels a little bit
06:20 entitled to use Kanye West's designs as inspiration for her clothing. Although the designs look like
06:27 total rip-offs. So, you know, you can get inspiration, but this is looking a little too
06:32 close now. Reports do say that this similarity isn't really that surprising though, because
06:38 Kylie Jenner collaborated with the team that advised on Kanye West's designs. And that team
06:44 was Entire Studios. Both collections share the technique of lacking buttons, zippers, or seams.
06:51 And Kylie's puffers, available in blue, white, and black, slightly differ from Kanye West's
06:57 Yeezy Gap line, which included blue, black, and red options that were discontinued in 2022.
07:05 But regardless, fans noticed right away. And one fan wrote this, "Let's not act like Kylie didn't
07:12 get this idea from Kanye." And then there was another fan that said this, "So basically a
07:18 combination of Yeezy and Skims." And someone else commented saying, "This looks a lot like Yeezy."
07:26 How I see it though, well, it's next to impossible to create 100% unique original fashion. Like,
07:32 whatever clothing is designed will look like something else in some way. But in Kylie's case,
07:39 I kind of think that this was 100% intentional copying. Mainly because she's been accused in
07:45 the past of copying and stealing from other celebrities for her makeup products and her
07:51 fashion looks in general. And you know, her older sister is also in the fashion world,
07:56 Kim Kardashian, as well as her other older sister, Khloe Kardashian. So no doubt she would want to
08:02 follow suit and do something in the fashion world. But I mean, come on man, these are looking really
08:07 close to Kanye West's designs. If anything, copy your sister's, not your sister's exes. Also,
08:14 in addition to this, accusations about Kylie Jenner copying Kanye West's puffer jackets designs
08:20 have followed recent allegations of her copying another designer, Betsey Johnson. And she claims
08:26 that she shared design concepts with Kylie Jenner and her team six months before. And Kylie Jenner
08:34 allegedly replicated those ideas in her Kai clothing line. She even made this post on Instagram
08:40 to vent her frustration with Kylie. "We emailed Kylie and all her team @products.ltd concept and
08:49 language and a line sheet six months ago. Interesting concept Kylie, interesting. Thanks
08:56 for the cosign. F your support." And then from there, she went on to add this, "While I stare at
09:03 my student dad worked my a off for this like so many other working class kids who bust their a
09:11 for expertise they weren't born into to realize their ideas. I know who my supporters are in and
09:19 out of fashion and I appreciate those. You want to gag over lazy celeb merch duped business models,
09:27 be my guest. Working people don't lose hope. We're here for more than a gag collection and a bag.
09:35 Long game." Even with this controversy surrounding Kylie Jenner's alleged copying of Betsey Johnson,
09:41 her fashion line has already generated significant earnings. Plus, amid both negative and positive
09:47 comments about the puffer jackets, Kylie Jenner has the potential to earn even more in the future.
09:54 So what everyone thought was going to happen, happened. Kylie Jenner's new brand, Kai,
10:00 is a flop. "Reasons why no one is buying Kylie Jenner's new clothing line. Kim Kardashian and
10:06 her family are concerned about the potential failure of Kylie's new clothing line. As the
10:11 youngest self-made billionaire, Jenner has certainly made a name for herself in the business
10:15 world. However, her fashion sense and style have also earned her recognition among the industry's
10:20 elite. Kylie Jenner has formed one of the most successful makeup businesses in the world,
10:25 all before the age of 21. With Kai, Jenner has brought her own unique touch to clothing design.
10:31 The line features gender inclusive neutrals inspired by Jenner's personal style and love
10:38 for all things stylish. She also makes sure that the designers are size inclusive, making dressing
10:44 up fun and trendy for all body types. You have the $275 strapless dress that's available in seven
10:53 different sizes. The first installment titled "Drop 001" saw Kylie's team up with Berlin-based
10:59 brand, Namilia, creating a grungy 12-piece collection dominated by black faux leather
11:04 garments, including different dresses and a full-length trench coat. Leading up to its launch,
11:09 emphasis was placed on Kai's lower price point, with WSG magazine reporting that all pieces from
11:14 the first drop will be priced under $200. And you have the $90 crop top that's also available in
11:23 all of its sizes. This detail certainly sparked interest among fans and luckily,
11:29 they didn't have to wait long to get their hands on the pieces, which launched on November 1st.
11:33 Kylie Jenner's new clothing line, Kai, surpassed $1 million in sales in its first hour on launch
11:39 day, according to Page Six. But now, the beauty mogul is teasing a sneak peek of what's to come
11:45 in "Drop 002" and it looks like we're in for another stylish collection. It seems that Kylie
11:50 Jenner's collaboration with Namilia was just the beginning of her fashion empire. "Drop 001" may
11:55 have been full of edgy faux leather pieces, but "Drop 002" is taking a different direction. Jenner
12:01 recently shared a sneak peek of the upcoming collection on her social media accounts and it
12:05 looks like we can expect more affordable yet stylish pieces. In true Kylie fashion, she teased
12:10 fans with just enough to keep them wanting more. Two KarJenner brand launches of the past. Aside
12:15 from those, the entire collection is still available to buy and in a range of sizes too.
12:20 In one sense, this is a good thing. It presumably means they ordered a sufficient amount of stock
12:24 to ensure fans don't lose out on the pieces they were hoping to cop. However, it certainly comes
12:29 as a stark contrast to KarJenner brand launches of the past. For example, when Kylie launched her
12:35 infamous lip kits in 2015, demand was so high that the site crashed and the socks sold out within
12:41 minutes. This is just so exciting. Dolce is the first to go. These sellout drops became a running
12:49 theme as Kylie Cosmetics expanded its beauty empire. Similarly, when her sister Kim launched
12:55 her Skims solutionwear in 2019, the first drop of products sold out entirely in the first day,
13:01 reportedly making millions of dollars within a matter of minutes. With such a track record of
13:06 instant success, we would have expected the Kai collection to follow suit but perhaps ordering
13:11 more stock was a strategic move. By ensuring an ample amount of stock, she may be signaling a
13:15 commitment to catering to all body types and sizes. Or maybe they simply learned from past
13:19 experiences and wanted to avoid the chaos of a sellout drop. Whatever the reason may be,
13:24 fans can now leisurely browse through the collection without having to frantically
13:28 refresh their browsers or constantly check for restocks. And who knows, with this more relaxed
13:33 shopping experience, they might even be tempted to add a few extra pieces. But Kai is not just
13:38 a clothing brand, it's a representation of Jenner's own journey and growth in the fashion world. From
13:42 being criticized for her style choices to now receiving awards for them, Jenner has proved that
13:47 she is not afraid to take risks and stay true to her own personal style. As expected, Kai's launch
13:52 was met with excitement and praise from fans and critics alike. With this unique designs and
13:57 inclusive approach, the brand is sure to make a mark in the fashion industry.
