Winter weather lovers say they're excited for the return of lake-effect snow season in western New York, while others say they dread it.
Transcript
00:00 When cold air blows over warmer waters on Lake Erie,
00:04 lake effect snow bands can quickly cause trouble for those caught unprepared.
00:09 We're visiting some family up here, bro, and this is brutal.
00:12 This is a complete contrast to what we're used to, man.
00:14 There were several, several cars that were stuck on the side of the road, man.
00:19 It's just been brutal.
00:20 Heavy snow can leave Interstate 90 looking more like a parking lot.
00:25 Just ask Buffalo native Annette Moore,
00:27 trying to move her mother Peggy down to Tennessee.
00:31 We've seen several accidents and then we actually needed help ourself because
00:34 somebody cut me off and we ended up in a ditch.
00:36 So you're moving down to Tennessee?
00:38 Yes, I am.
00:39 Oh my God.
00:39 I've been waiting for a very long time.
00:42 And now I have the opportunity to move to Tennessee to be with my daughter.
00:47 Are you gonna miss the snow?
00:48 No.
00:48 [LAUGH]
00:50 Locals here in Lake Effect snow country are split.
00:52 Some tell us they love all of this snow.
00:55 Others say they dread it.
00:58 I think it's gorgeous and it's beautiful and we've been lucky.
01:01 You know what you've got when you live here, right?
01:03 Do you enjoy this time of year?
01:05 Not really, I prefer summer.
01:06 [LAUGH]
01:08 Sandals, not boots.
01:10 Sometimes you love it, sometimes you hate it.
01:11 If you wanna go out and play in it, or sled or snowmobile, you love it.
01:15 If your car is plowed in and you can't get out, you hate it.
01:17 This is perfect because we gotta have the snowmobilers in here,
01:21 the hunters love it, and us old people don't like it too much cuz we got a shovel.
01:26 But it keeps us young.
01:29 One thing they all agree on, feeling grateful for
01:32 the crews working around the clock to keep these roads open.
01:36 We have the best plow truck drivers.
01:39 I mean, we really do.
01:41 I don't know, they've got it down.
01:44 I don't worry about the roads being horrible because they're on it.
01:48 For AccuWeather, I'm Bill Waddell.
