Incredible Northern Lights captured in Inverness

Newly weds illuminated in spectacular Northern Lights picture.

00:00 I'm Michael Carver, I am a photographer based in Inverness.

00:04 I was photographing a wedding for a couple called Kerry and Stephen, and I was over in

00:11 Cromarty at the stables in Cromarty.

00:15 I had a shot last, a couple of months back, and since then quite a few people have kind

00:21 of joked about it saying, "Oh, we have to order the Northern Lights and can you conjure

00:26 them up and stuff?"

00:27 And in the morning of Kerry's wedding, I was joking with them, they were joking with me

00:34 saying, "Oh, we're hoping you can order in the Northern Lights for us tonight, Michael."

00:40 And I was like, "Yeah, yeah."

00:42 They were sitting down for the dinner in the main room and I was off in another room with

00:46 a couple of other suppliers.

00:48 And then my phone, I have an app that alerts me when there's a chance of the Northern Lights.

00:54 So my phone pinged and I was like, "Oh, there's a chance of the Northern Lights."

00:59 So I went outside for a quick look and I can see that it was quite green, but dull, not

01:05 very bright at all.

01:06 So I thought, "Well, I'll go back in."

01:08 So I went back into the room and spoke to the couple at the top table and they were

01:12 the bridesmaid and their best man were beside them.

01:15 And I showed them a photo on my phone and I was like, "Look, there's the Northern Lights

01:18 are outside."

01:19 And they hadn't yet had their, they're just about to have their main meal.

01:23 So they were like, "Well, we're not missing it.

01:25 We have to catch this."

01:28 So we all went outside.

01:30 You have to climb over a fence in her wedding dress to get onto the road to get a better

01:34 view.

01:35 So the first couple of shots, it was very dull and I was like, "Yeah, it's working,

01:40 but maybe we've missed it.

01:41 I'm so sorry."

01:42 And then I said, "We'll try another bit."

01:44 And we moved along a bit.

01:45 And then just all of a sudden the sky just went like, I don't think I've ever seen it

01:51 as bright in all the time I've been photographing, but with the naked eye, it just went like

01:55 whoosh.

01:56 And it was like lasers kind of popping up.

01:58 And I've shared it and it's gotten like, I don't know, 5,000 likes on Facebook and stuff.

02:03 And Carrie, she can't believe it, the bride, she's like, "Oh, I'm just amazed at all

02:08 this."

02:09 So it's good.

02:10 It's been good.

02:11 It's good for me, but it's even better for these guys to know that forever now they're

02:14 going to have that photo that nobody else has got.

02:18 So it's pretty cool.
