  • last year
Kenny Pickett talks about his experience with new Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive coordinators Eddie Faulkner and Mike Sullivan in their first week.
Transcript
00:00 >> Yeah, I think the flow is good.
00:01 I thought the setup we had throughout the week was good and the game day operations
00:04 with me and coach Sully and talking on the sideline amongst the coaches was smooth.
00:08 Obviously can get better, so we're gonna continue to try and iron out, but
00:12 I thought for our first time out it was good.
00:14 >> Is there anything noticeable that you could iron out?
00:17 >> Yeah, personnels and stuff like that, just hearing him say it,
00:20 wristband numbers, kind of him repeating them.
00:24 Just things that we can iron out,
00:25 small detail things to help getting out of the huddle faster.
00:28 >> Kenny, what was your reaction to seeing Deontay's reaction on the Warren fumble?
00:33 And what did you think about what he had to say to the team?
00:36 >> Yeah, he talked to the team today.
00:38 He addressed it, we moved on, we love Tate, we know he's gonna play hard, so
00:42 it's all good.
00:43 >> What was the difference- >> Did you notice he went right back to him
00:45 after he had dropped that touchdown that was the next drive,
00:48 he came right back, is that something you try to do?
00:52 >> Yes and no, I mean, Tate knows how confident I am in him and
00:55 how the kind of playmaker he is.
00:57 With the defense, it tells me to do, that's where I take the football and
01:00 he was in the right spot.
01:01 >> What kind of difference did you notice maybe in the flow of the game and
01:04 how you guys were moving the ball?
01:06 >> The chunk plays were there, that was good.
01:09 I thought we had some really good drives, working on some long fields.
01:13 When we got to the red zone, we just had a negative player apparently,
01:15 we felt like that, it kind of took us out of that rhythm,
01:18 that really good rhythm that we were having.
01:19 So we get that fixed, the points will follow.
01:23 >> You used the three tight end package, what did you like out of that?
01:26 What does that open up for you?
01:28 >> I like the versatility out of it, I don't think you're run heavy.
01:32 I think the things that we did off it were really good.
01:35 I love having Connor and Pat in there as well as Darnell.
01:38 Getting Darnell a touch in the pass game was great,
01:41 out of our drop back stuff.
01:42 So I think we're pretty versatile in it, it keeps our defense honest.
01:45 >> You threw a fade to Fryermuth, he got tangled up,
01:48 that was out of that three tight end package.
01:50 Is that an example of the kind of matchup you can exploit potentially?
01:53 >> Yeah, you can find matchups, size matchups, whatever it may be.
01:56 That was one where I felt like he was one on one, they ended up getting tangled up,
02:00 thought we're gonna get a call.
02:02 Didn't get it, but definitely a shot that I like taking with Pat.
02:05 >> Kenny, now that it's a more normal week, how is preparation different?
02:08 [INAUDIBLE]
02:10 >> I mean, I don't wanna say it's really not too much different,
02:12 to be honest with you.
02:14 I felt like even though we had a short week, technically last week with the change,
02:18 and how things were, how crazy it was, I thought the plan that coaches had put
02:22 together was really smooth for us.
02:24 So we're just kind of building off of that.
02:25 >> Coach Tomlin mentioned that going into since you guys addressed some
02:30 launch angles, changing some of the launch angles.
02:32 Can you add some texture to that?
02:33 What did you see on tape that you wanted to change, and
02:36 how did you address it going into the game?
02:37 >> Launch angles, like in the pocket, like moving the pocket?
02:40 >> Yeah, it sounded like that was- >> Yeah,
02:41 I mean I think we moved the pocket before that.
02:43 But I'm continuing to do that, and use my athleticism, and
02:46 get out of the pocket, just another element to our offense.
02:49 >> Will you line it up a little deeper to the shotgun, or
02:52 just never too bad?
02:52 >> I don't think so.
