00:00 The light before Christmas, the manger by Lux Moralis is illuminating Liverpool Cathedral this December.
00:08 We love coming to Liverpool. We've done a lot of projects here now and I think the way people embrace them has really made it feel like home when we bring artwork to the city, which is fantastic.
00:19 The magical Christmas light show returns for the second time following last year's sold out success.
00:25 Working with Peter is a good experience because he knows the building and he knows what works within the building.
00:32 And to see the lights and the message that the lights are giving is just amazing and it makes you feel Christmasy even if you don't feel Christmasy when you start.
00:42 With the help of internationally renowned art team Lux Moralis, the iconic 99 year old venue will be transformed each evening with an immersive light and sound installation.
00:53 I was just talking to somebody and they said they've been to a few of these light shows now and they said you can't actually describe what it is because it's not a light show really.
01:04 It's more of being inside an artwork. Within a cathedral that is an artwork in itself. So it's got these multiple layers.
01:12 The cathedral's historic architecture will become a backdrop for the sensory experience, taking guests on a journey that brings the nativity story to life.
01:22 I hope people will come away thinking of the bigger questions in life, particularly at this time of year, the peace of the world, because as we know, there's war in Israel, Palestine, there's war still in the Ukraine and we need to be praying for peace.
01:40 The large scale project will see lights and sounds filling the building, including stunning Christmas related images projected onto the front elevation and interior walls.
01:51 Illuminations will guide visitors into the building to follow the story, whilst encouraging both young and old to look up and enjoy the architectural splendor of the building.
02:02 The centre of this artwork is actually part of the Christmas story. I think a lot of people will know and if they don't know it, they will sort of get to understand it quite quickly.
02:12 There's actually a journey that goes in as part of the story of the three wise men. And that's quite important because the three wise men, they follow the star to the manger.
02:23 And actually that's a really nice way with the angels, it's all about connection. And this is all about connection in different ways, that we're all on those journeys together.
02:32 So if you look at it in that same sense, in that same sort of community sense about it, we're all taking those journeys in our own way or collectively or as a society.
02:43 But here, in this beautiful light with the beautiful music around us, it's great to come here and be part of that community for something that's really beautiful and special.
02:52 And especially at a time of year that can actually hopefully bring a bit of joy to people's lives.
02:56 The Light Before Christmas, the manger, is running at Liverpool Cathedral until the 8th of December.
