00:02 Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot.
00:09 (upbeat music)
00:12 But the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, did not.
00:21 The Grinch hated Christmas, the whole Christmas season.
00:25 Now, please don't ask why.
00:28 No one quite knows the reason.
00:30 It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right.
00:34 It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
00:38 But I think that the most likely reason of all
00:42 may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
00:46 'Tis the season of cheer, and Christmas is looming.
00:52 But the Grinch isn't happy.
00:54 In fact, he is fuming.
00:57 With a hatred so deep that he just can't conceal it.
01:02 To cancel this Christmas, old Grinchy will steal it.
01:05 To get into town, to make it the distance,
01:09 you'll need to find Max.
01:11 You'll need his assistance.
01:13 Slither and slink with a smile most unpleasant.
01:18 To earn more rewards, collect every present.
01:24 More hot than a chimney, more sweet than a nuzzle,
01:28 it looks like you found Grinch a piece of a puzzle.
01:31 Collect all the pieces to unlock more skills.
01:36 With brand new abilities come brand new thrills.
01:40 After searching through packages, boxes, and sacks,
01:45 finally Grinch has found cute little Max.
01:51 Reunited with Max, Grinch is feeling more brave.
01:54 Together the duo must trek through the cave.
01:57 This door is locked shut.
02:00 The hinges all glitch.
02:02 Help Grinch and Max find the sneaky creek switch.
02:06 To get on with the plot, to move on and explore,
02:11 little dog Max can help open the door.
02:13 A now open pathway was closed just before.
02:19 What a great Grinchy trick.
02:20 You've opened the door.
02:22 Now Grinch can continue.
02:24 You're well on your way.
02:26 The countdown is on to steal Christmas day.
02:29 Be careful, these cookies are lickety slick
02:33 and Grinchy hates hugs.
02:35 Better hide from them quick.
02:37 When cookies come searching to give Grinch a hug,
02:41 hide in the wardrobe snug as a bug.
02:43 Hide the Grinch.
02:48 Great job hiding the Grinch.
02:50 Come out Grinch.
02:54 The cookies nearby love to hug girls and boys.
03:03 Slink by and stay silent.
03:05 Don't make any noise.
03:07 You found puzzle pieces you simply want more.
03:14 Well look, there's a puzzle piece behind this door.
03:18 As simple as pudding, all sugary rich.
03:22 Max can pick up the pieces if Grinch presses the switch.
03:26 Grinch finally made it, the exit at last.
03:31 He's got to steal Christmas and time's moving fast.
03:34 With a hatred so deep and a feeling so vile,
03:39 the thought of no Christmas makes old Grinchy smile.
03:42 (grunting)
03:45 And then they'd do something he liked least of all.
03:53 Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
03:57 would stand close together with Christmas bells ringing.
04:01 They'd stand hand in hand and the Whos would start singing.
04:06 They'd sing and they'd sing and they'd sing, sing, sing,
04:10 sing and the more the Grinch thought of this
04:12 Who Christmas Sing, the more the Grinch thought,
04:16 I must stop this whole thing.
04:19 Why for 53 years I've put up with it now.
04:23 I must stop this Christmas from coming.
04:25 But how?
04:26 Then he got an idea, an awful idea.
04:33 The Grinch got a wonderful, awful idea.
04:39 Those lovey dove Whos with their overblown hugs.
04:43 Grinch would rather be covered in 10 dozen bugs.
04:47 In true Grinchy nature, he hates who he hugs.
04:53 Better hide him from Whos and their love buggy tugs.
04:56 I know just what to do, the Grinch laughed in his throat
05:07 and he made a quick Santy Claus hat and a coat.
05:11 And he chuckled and clucked, what a great Grinchy trick.
05:16 With this coat and this hat, I look just like Saint Nick.
05:19 All I need is a reindeer.
05:21 The Grinch looked around.
05:24 But since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found.
05:28 Did that stop the old Grinch?
05:30 No, the Grinch simply said, if I can't find a reindeer,
05:34 I'll make one instead.
05:36 So he called his dog Max.
05:39 Then he took some red thread and he tied a big horn
05:42 on the top of his head.
05:43 Then he loaded some bags and some old empty sacks
05:52 on a ramshackle sleigh and he hitched up old Max.
05:56 Then the Grinch said, get up.
05:57 And the sleigh started down toward the homes
06:01 where the Whos lay a snooze in their town.
06:05 [ Music ]
06:07 All the windows were dark.
06:09 Quiet snow filled the air.
06:12 All the Whos were all dreaming, sweet dreams without care.
06:18 He came to the first little house on the square.
06:22 This is stop number one, the old Grinchy Claus hissed.
06:27 And he climbed to the roof, empty bags in his fist.
06:32 [ Music ]
06:40 Then he slid down the chimney, a rather tight pinch.
06:44 But if Santa could do it, then so could the Grinch.
06:49 He got stuck only once for a moment or two.
06:52 Then he stuck his head out of the fireplace flue
06:56 where the little Whos stockings all hung in a row.
07:00 These stockings, he grinned, are the first things to go.
07:06 Then he slithered and slunk with a smile most unpleasant
07:11 around the whole room and he took every present.
07:15 Pop guns and bicycles, roller skates, drums, checkerboards,
07:20 tricycles, popcorn and plums.
07:22 And he stuffed them in bags.
07:24 Then the Grinch very nimbly stuffed all the bags one
07:27 by one up the chimney.
07:29 Then he slunk to the icebox.
07:33 He took the Who's feast.
07:34 He took the Who pudding.
07:36 He took the roast beast.
07:38 He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a flash.
07:42 Why, that Grinch even took their last can of Who hash.
07:46 And he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee.
07:50 And now, grinned the Grinch, I will stuff up the tree.
07:55 [ Music ]
08:01 And the Grinch grabbed the tree and he started to shove
08:05 when he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.
08:09 He turned around fast and he saw a small Who,
08:12 little Cindy Lou Who, who was not more than two.
08:16 The Grinch had been caught by this tiny Who daughter
08:19 who'd got out of bed for a cup of cold water.
08:22 She stared at the Grinch and said, "Santa Claus, why?
08:26 Why are you taking our Christmas tree?
08:28 Why?" But you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slink,
08:35 he thought up a lie.
08:37 And he thought it up quick.
08:39 "Why, my sweet little tot," the fake Santa Claus lied,
08:44 "there's a light on this tree that won't light on one side.
08:47 So I'm taking it home to my workshop, my dear.
08:51 I'll fix it up there, then I'll bring it back here."
08:54 And his fib fooled the child.
08:57 Then he patted her head and he got her a drink
08:59 and he sent her to bed.
09:01 And when Cindy Lou Who went to bed with her cup,
09:04 he went to the chimney and stuffed the tree up.
09:09 Then the last thing he took was the log for their fire.
09:13 Then he went up the chimney himself, the old liar.
09:17 On their walls he left nothing but books and some wire.
09:20 And the one speck of food that he left
09:22 in the house was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse.
09:27 [ Music ]
09:34 "That's a noise," grinned the Grinch,
09:36 "that I simply must hear."
09:39 So he paused and the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
09:44 And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
09:48 It started in low, then it started to grow.
09:53 But the sound wasn't sad.
09:57 Why, this sound sounded merry.
10:00 It couldn't be so, but it was merry, very.
10:04 He stared down at her fill.
10:06 The Grinch popped his eyes, then he shook.
10:10 What he saw was a shocking surprise.
10:12 [ Music ]
10:25 Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
10:29 was singing without any presence at all.
10:33 He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming.
10:35 It came. Somehow or other, it came just the same.
10:40 And the Grinch with his Grinch feet ice cold
10:45 in the snow stood puzzling and puzzling.
10:48 How could it be so?
10:50 It came without ribbons.
10:51 It came without tags.
10:53 It came without packages, boxes, or bags.
10:56 And he puzzled three hours till his puzzler was sore.
11:00 Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.
11:05 Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from the store.
11:09 Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.
11:16 And what happened then?
11:18 Well, in Whoville, they say
11:20 that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day.
11:24 And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight,
11:28 he whizzed with his load through the bright morning light,
11:31 and he brought back the toys and the food for the feast.
11:35 And he --
11:37 He himself, the Grinch, carved the roast beast.
