Dyche on battling Everton's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest

00:00 Yeah, pleased with the performance, stepping on from what I thought, you know, I said after the Man United game, the score doesn't look it, but I thought it was a very good performance.
00:13 And I think we've taken this game on in the similar mentality, not to wait for things to happen, to actually make it happen.
00:20 Very pleased, particularly the first half.
00:22 I thought we were very good in the first half.
00:25 You know what it's like, you come in at half time, you're thinking, 'How are you not in front?'
00:29 But I said to the players, 'You're going to need to deliver a strong second half because Forrest have made it tough here, we know that, their record since they've been back in the Premier League.'
00:37 And then a fine goal, you know, it's a fantastic goal, it's worthy of winning a game in the end.
00:42 And I think our overall performance, I think we were strong enough to win the game with the actual performance level.
00:49 How pleased were you with that last 20 minutes also? Because Forrest didn't really allow Forrest to create any sustained pressure or anything?
00:55 No, I was pleased with that.
00:57 It was just an interruption then?
00:58 Yes, and that's a part of the game.
01:00 It's hard to dominate Premier League football matches, particularly away from home, we know that, and particularly at places like this where they've made it a hard place to come.
01:08 And so I was pleased with the mentality, to see the game through in that manner, because they threw a few crosses in at the end, we had it out, we cleared it, we broke the play, as you said.
01:16 I think Jordan makes one really good save when he's fast off his line.
01:19 I can't remember him, I might be wrong, I can't remember him having too many big saves to make, other than stuff that you'd expect him to do well.
01:27 The unit, the defensive unit's strong again, clean sheet, of course, but also the hard yards in front of them.
01:33 You know, I mean, Duke's pressing and the wide players, we ask a lot of them.
01:37 The midfield, too, I thought were terrific today.
01:39 Jimmy Garner and Gannett, I thought them too were terrific today.
01:43 And what does that mean to this group of players after the midweek and one-two week?
01:49 Well, look, it's like another restart, you know, what do you do?
01:53 Until there's more news, we spoke with the players and said, look, we can't do anything about it, it's out of our control.
01:59 We can control the controllables and one of them is us with the mentality to perform.
02:03 And I think that's been very pleasing for me as a manager, because we spoke with the players, they were very open about it.
02:08 They all agreed they were ready to take it on and they have done so far, so far.
02:13 But to get that first win after that news is very pleasing.
02:17 It's like it blows belief into the fans, into the group, into the players,
02:23 because they still have to look at the league table at some point and still have to wait and see what an appeal will bring.
02:28 So in the meantime, we've got to get on with business like we are doing.
02:31 Can you just tell them how to speak with the players?
02:34 Yeah, well, Dom was touch and go.
02:36 It's a tight one with him, you know, because obviously he's passed.
02:40 So I think as long as he's come through this weekend, he's got a good chance for later in the week.
02:45 Amadou, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see how his week progresses, but he's certainly making good progress.
02:51 Thank you.
02:52 Any further questions, guys?
02:56 Cool. That was good. Oh, nearly.
02:58 Tell us a bit more about Nia, he has a fantastic community.
03:02 Yeah, he's, you know, I think he's early part of his Everton career.
03:06 There was a few question marks since I've been here.
03:09 I think he's been terrific. His work ethic, like I say, we do ask a lot of all of our players, particularly our wide players.
03:14 His work ethic for the team, and I know he's got ability.
03:17 I've known him a long time and I think he showed that today, not just with his goal, which was a fine strike,
03:22 but other parts of his game, his control and his understanding is improving all the time.
03:27 His positional sense and built on the fact that he will do the hard yards for himself and for the team.
03:32 And they're good qualities to have.
03:34 It's your third consecutive away win.
03:38 What is it that you believe makes you so strong away from home?
03:42 There's a lot of noise amongst lots of different noises I've been in the club, but one of the many was about the away form.
03:49 We wanted to correct it.
03:50 I think we started that process last season.
03:54 Certainly with draws, not so many wins, but with draws and the mentality was improving all the time.
03:58 I think this season it's been on show.
04:01 And, you know, the belief in how we're playing, the belief in the players as a unit,
04:07 you know, and that they're willing to work hard for each other.
04:09 And you can never underestimate that.
04:10 You know, people think it's a given, it's not.
04:12 A group with all noises pointing in the right direction, willing to do all the work and play, of course.
04:17 That's a powerful thing.
04:18 And, you know, I've spoken to the players about how important it is,
04:21 and I think they're showing that they believe it more and more.
04:24 Regardless of the appeal, you're in two points from semi-final place.
04:31 With the momentum you've got, do you think you can stay up anywhere?
04:35 Well, you know, people are suggesting that it's a good time to have ten points taken.
04:39 Well, if they are, I'll tell you what, I'll do a deal.
04:41 I'll have their ten points, they can have the ones that we got taken off,
04:44 and let's see where we all end up.
04:46 So I don't think it's quite as simple as that.
04:48 But I think the key for us is to not really worry about all the different conjecture,
04:53 all the different noise, all the different stories.
04:54 It's to stay focused on what we're doing.
04:56 And the bit that we can control, we feel we control, is our performances,
05:00 our work in the week on the training ground,
05:02 and our belief in each other to go and win football matches.
05:04 So that's the bit that we're focusing on.
05:05 Thanks, everyone.
05:08 Thank you.
05:09 Cheers.
05:10 Cheers.
05:11 Cheers.
