00:02 I hope you're all having an amazing beginning to COP28.
00:10 We're here because, well, you all know why we're here.
00:14 We've screwed up and we have a massive climate crisis
00:17 and it's serious.
00:18 It's so serious, in fact, that the world of science
00:23 has been shouting and screaming for so long
00:26 and finally, we've managed to pay attention
00:29 to the world of science.
00:30 I'm showcasing the solutions and I'm also letting people know
00:33 about the fashion industry's need,
00:36 most of all, for policy change and incentives.
00:40 So really, if anyone here can help me change laws
00:43 in my industry, we're pretty unpoliced
00:46 and I'm here to try and get a seat at the table
00:49 and make some laws that can protect the planet in fashion.
00:53 So thank you for having me.
00:54 More and more we know and the science comes back says
00:58 we are far off.
01:00 So we really need many champions, you, many others
01:05 to get together, build new alliances
01:08 and scale solutions that we know exist.
01:10 Imagine a different future.
01:12 So what I wanted to say in this situation of deep worry
01:17 and deep optimism is to remind myself
01:20 what my daughter told me.
01:21 I brought my 70-year-old to New York, actually,
01:25 to instead of having me speaking,
01:27 I interviewed her on stage.
01:28 And Hala, you remember, she said at a point,
01:31 "If you lose your hope,
01:32 "where do you expect me to get hope from?"
01:35 And I would like to just extend that to all of us
01:37 that we need to master our hope.
01:39 We need to master our determination.
01:41 We need to be like you, Paul, said several times.
01:43 We need to have skin enough to be prepared
01:47 for some true failures,
01:49 for some steps going in the wrong direction.
01:52 We need to get this right
01:54 and we simply cannot allow ourselves to pass it on
01:57 to the next generation.
01:59 (speaking in foreign language)
02:02 So I will leave you with one final message
02:19 that comes from the wisdom of my people.
02:20 It's something that we say.
02:22 Mother Earth doesn't expect us to save her.
02:25 Mother Earth expects us to respect her.
02:28 Thank you.
02:29 - To the world's most impactful climate voices.
02:32 (audience cheering)
02:35 (dramatic music)
02:37 you
